A case audit is an examination or evaluation of a case. In the past, case audits were performed in order to monitor and report on the extent of compliance with policy and regulations. Today, in addition to compliance monitoring, many organizations also gather and assess a range of information on quality, practice, and outcomes. This helps them to evaluate agency performance, enabling organizations to make decisions on ways to improve performance and affect positive changes in policy and case practice. These new approaches are much broader in scope than the traditional evaluation of compliance and often involve caseworkers and supervisors who are allowed to provide feedback concerning the findings provided by the auditors.
