IBM 4612 SURE POINT MOBILE COMPUTER "FAST PATH - OS/2" SOFTWARE INSTALLATION FASTOS2.TXT November, 1996 (C) Copyright 1996 IBM Corporation IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST --------------------------- The IBM 4612 Sure Point Mobile Computer does not come pre-loaded with software. You will see error messages like "I999-0305" until an operating system and 4612 unique drivers have been installed. REQUIREMENTS ------------ Refer to the the 4612RD2.TXT file on the System Programs Diskette for OS/2 (SX27-4041) before starting installation for any new changes, detailed explanations of procedures, other supplemental information, and other installation customization options. NOTE: These procedures should be used for the initial software installation only. Always check IBM website (http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/rds/) for latest up to date information. HARDWARE CONFIGURATION - 4612 D01 Docking Station - PS/2 Keyboard - External Floppy Drive (enabled through SETUP) OS/2 WARP 3.0 OR WARP CONNECT - 4612 System Programs Diskette for OS/2 - OS/2 Warp V3.0 - Pen for OS/2 Computing, V1.03 or later - POSS for OS/2 V1.2.0 (needed only for systems with scanner/msr or POS I/O support) OS/2 INSTALLATION ----------------- During the installation of OS/2 there will be times when the keyboard will be needed to maneuver thru the OS/2 windows. Some common keyboard commands are as follows: - F10 - Go to the menu bar - TAB - Move between fields - Arrow - Move within windows - Space bar - to select - Enter key - to select - ALT/TAB - to move between windows Refer to Appendix A. in the "Users Guide to OS/2 WARP" for detailed keyboard usage without a mouse. OS/2 WARP 3.0 AND WARP CONNECT 1. Insert OS/2 Install diskette into drive A: and power on system. 2. Follow instructions and choose the EASY installation path. 3. At System Configuration screen make the following choices: - Primary Display - VGA - Advanced Power Management - Installed - CD-ROM Device support - select appropriate device, None, or OTHER if required driver is not on list. - Multimedia Device Support - None - Remove Audio Drive (ESS688) option on secondary menu and select No Support - PCMCIA Support - Matsushita. Select PCMCIA Hard Disk or Flash if desired as well Do NOT install network support during initial installation. 4. Complete OS/2 installation following instructions. System will reboot. 5. Insert System Programs Diskette into drive A:, open OS/2 window, and enter A:\INSTOS2.CMD. 6. Change directory to A:\OS2\AUDIO and enter EINSTALL.EXE. Follow instructions and accept all defaults. 7. Insert Pen for OS/2 diskette into drive A: and enter A:\PINSTALL from OS/2 prompt and follow instructions. Accept defaults until Pen Device Driver Installation Panel appears. (Panel appears after Pen for OS/2 diskettes have been loaded.) - Insert 4612 System Programs Diskette into Drive A: and Enter A:\OS2\TABLET for "path" - On next screen, highlight IBM4612 Sure Point Mobile Tablet Driver and Enter C:\OS2\TABLET for "path" - Perform next step before shutting down the system 8. Edit the config.sys using TEDIT or the "E" editor. Save changes after update. Move the line below BEFORE Device=C:\OS2\BOOT\MOUSE.SYS: DEVICE=C:\OS2\TABLET\AIPTABLT.SYS Find this line and modify to read as follows (enter on one line): BASEDEV=PCM2ATA.ADD /S:2 /EXIRQ:3 /EXIRQ:4 /EXIRQ:5 /EXIRQ:6 /EXIRQ:7 /EXIRQ:8 /EXIRQ:12 /EXIRQ:14 9. Shutdown OS/2 and Reboot. POSS FOR OS/2 (OPTIONAL) 1. Insert POSS for OS/2 Install diskette into drive A:. 2. Enter A:\INSTALL and follow instructions. 3. POSS for OS/2 installation is complete.
