IBM 4612 SURE POINT MOBILE COMPUTER "FAST PATH - DOS/WINDOWS" SOFTWARE INSTALLATION FASTDOS.TXT November, 1996 (C) Copyright 1996 IBM Corporation IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST --------------------------- The IBM 4612 Sure Point Mobile Computer does not come pre-loaded with software. You will see error messages like "I999-0305" until an operating system and 4612 unique drivers have been installed. REQUIREMENTS ------------ Refer to the the 4612READ.TXT file on the 4612 System Programs Diskette for DOS/Windows (SX27-4021) before starting installation for any new changes, detailed explanations of procedures, other supplemental information, and other installation customization options. NOTE: These procedures should be used for the initial software installation only. Always check IBM website (http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/rds/) for latest up to date information. HARDWARE CONFIGURATION - 4612 D01 Docking Station - PS/2 Keyboard - External Floppy Drive (enabled through SETUP) DOS/WINDOWS - 4612 System Programs Diskette for DOS/Windows - IBM PC DOS 7.0 - Microsoft Windows 3.11 - Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing V1.0 or later - POSS for DOS V1.5.0 or POSS for Windows V1.4.1 (needed only for systems with scanner/msr or POS I/O support) DOS/WINDOWS SOFTWARE INSTALLATION PROCEDURES -------------------------------------------- DOS 7.0 1. Insert PC DOS installation diskette into drive A: and power on unit. 2. Install PC DOS with following selections: - Install PenDOS with Digitizing Pad emulation via Mouse - Do NOT install optional PCMCIA support 3. After DOS is installed, the system reboots. Insert the 4612 System Programs diskette into drive A: and enter A:\INSTDOS.BAT. This replaces/updates key files. Reboot system. Note: DOS/V users should use A:\INSTDOSV.BAT instead. 4. DOS 7.0 installation is now complete. POSS FOR DOS (OPTIONAL) 1. Insert POSS for DOS diskette 1 into drive A: and change active drive to A:. 2. Enter INSTALL C:\POSSDOS. 3. Follow instructions accepting all defaults. 4. POSS DOS installation is complete. WINDOWS 3.11 1. Insert Windows installation diskette into drive A: and enter A:\SETUP at DOS prompt. 2. Select "Custom" Setup option. 3. For computer, select "MS-DOS System with APM". Accept all other defaults. 4. After installing Windows, insert 4612 System Programs diskette into drive A: and enter A:\INSTWIN1.BAT at DOS prompt. Remove diskette, reboot system, and start Windows. 5. Insert Windows for Pen installation diskette into drive A: and select "Run" from file menu (F10). Enter A:\INSTALL and follow all instructions accepting all defaults. 6. Exit Windows. (F10 and select "Exit Windows" option.) 7. At C: prompt, insert 4612 System Programs diskette into drive A: and enter A:\INSTWIN2.BAT. Remove diskette and start Windows. 8. For P01 models, from Control Panel, select "Rotate" icon. Select the portrait screen orientation, and click OK. Windows will automatically restart. 9. Insert 4612 System Programs diskette into drive A: and select "Run" From the File menu (F10). Enter A:\WIN31\AUDIO\SETUP and follow instructions given and accept all defaults. Audio support will take affect when Windows restarts. 10. In Windows, click on the Startup folder. 11. From the Program Manager, select "File" menu, "New", and Select "Program Item". Click on OK. - Enter BATMON.EXE on the Command Line - Enter C:\WINDOWS as the Working Directory - Click on OK - Battery Monitor will take affect when Windows restarts 12. Windows installation is complete. POSS FOR WINDOWS (OPTIONAL) Required for Scanner/MSR and POS I/O support. 1. Insert POSS for Windows Install Diskette 1 into a: drive. 2. Select 'Run' from file pulldown menu and enter: a:\setup and follow the instructions given. Accept all defaults during installation. 3. Exit Windows. 4. Insert fourth diskette in drive A: and from the DOS C:\ prompt type A:\LOADW32S.BAT. 5. Under Windows, select 'Run' and enter C:\INSTALL\SETUP.EXE and follow instructions. 6. Once the system reboots, you can delete the C:\INSTALL subdirectory and all its contents. 7. POSS for Windows installation is now complete.
