II. Supported Systems

This package provides Diagnostics for the Hyperion NVRAM card installed in the following IBM Machine Types:
   IBM System X models supported as RSS 4690 Store Controllers

  See the knowledgebase article on this URL for information on specific System X unit identification:

  http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=219&context=SW880&context=HW196&q1=contmatx&uid=pos1R1001643&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

====================================================================================
III. Supported Memory Keys

The package is provided in the form of an installation package and it installs to a memory key. IBM has tested the package on:

  Kingston 1GB key and 4 GB key.

  Transcend 1 GB.

  Other memory keys should work well.  However, you should test them by installing the package on the key and booting the target system with the installed memory key.

====================================================================================
IV. BIOS Requirements

The UEFI BIOS settings must be changed to boot from DOS USB memory keys.
Note: In order to run the diagnostics package from the memory key, the memory key must be identified to the system unit as the first boot device. Please check the boot order set on the machine by checking the system configuration.

====================================================================================
V. Installing the Diagnostic Package on a Memory Key

It is a simple process to install the package on a memory key.

NOTE: It is good practice to maintain a backup of the system on which you build the memory key. For safety sake, you may want to run this installation program on a machine whose data can be easily recovered.

CAUTION: All memory key contents are deleted during the installation process. Please remove any files you want to preserve to a secure place outside the memory key.

To install, follow these steps:

-        Download the Diagnostics package from the support website. This ZIP file includes Diagnostics image.

-        Extract Diagnostics image and execute on a computer with Microsoft Windows 2000/XP and Windows 7 and follow the on-screen instructions.

-        The installation process will tell you if there is insufficient space to install the diagnostics on the memory key.

-        The program will tell you when it is finished.

-        The remaining free space is available for user files.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the memory key contains a protected area, you'll need to remove it prior to running the diagnostics install package. A protected area on a 256MB key will prevent installation due to lack of available space. Use of a protected area on keys larger than 256MB has not been tested.

====================================================================================
VI. Running the Diagnostics Package

Refer to section IV. BIOS Requirements for details about setting the boot order which is required for booting from the memory key.

Start with the machine powered off. Insert the memory key into a USB port. Power on the machine and the diagnostic program will start.

You will be presented with an interface from which you can choose to run:

-   NVRAM Card Diagnostics

-   Clear utility

A video display and PC keyboard must be attached in order to run the diagnostics package.

====================================================================================
