4610 FIRMWARE UPDATE ALTERNATIVES

(1) Installation Utility Diskette
        - dos bootable diskette
        - operator interactive menu driven
        - rs485 and rs232 interfaces supported
        - 4610 font edit/update and font download utility program
        - 4610 firmware download utility program (interactive updates)
        - 4610 firmware microcode update image file for all 4610 models
(2) Automatic Firmware Update Diskette (rs485 only)
        - dos bootable diskette
        - automatic firmware updates
        - rs485 interface only
        - no font support
        - 4610 firmware download utility program (non-interactive updates)
        - 4610 firmware microcode update image file for all 4610 models
(3) Firmware update, u-code only (for Install Utility)
        - firmware microcode update image files only,  latest level
        - for updates to item #1 or item #2 above
(4) 4690 OS firmware update file (for 4690 OS)
        - firmware microcode update image files only,  latest level
        - for use on 4690 OS systems only

(a) Installation Utility Diskette provides full function operator interactive
    menu driven installation utility support for both rs485 and rs232
    interfaces providing firmware update and font utility support.
    For additional information download item #1 above and review the readme
    contained therein.
(b) Alternatively use the Automatic Update Diskette for firmware updates to
    rs485 attached 4610's where menu driven operator interaction is bypassed.
    This provides for a automatic (hands off) firmware update.
    Simply boot the diskette and monitor the firmware update through completion.
    For additional information download item #2 above and review the readme
    contained therein.
(c) Download the latest 4610 firmware microcode image file to update an existing
    Installation Utility diskette, however the preferred method is to download
    item #1 or item #2 instead, to ensure the latest level of utility program
    and firmware microcode.
(d) 4690 OS contains the 4610 firmware microcode image update files for each
    4610 model supported.
    Use 4690 OS procedures to update 4610's (rs485 attached) for medialess
    terminals without diskette drives.  Download item # 4 above to update your
    4690 OS system to the latest level of 4610 firmware microcode pror to
    downloading to 4610 printers.

NOTE: All 4610 firmware microcode updates are cumulative.
      You need only install with the latest level 4610 firmware available to
      become current.
