1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install the IBM^® Rational^® Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server for IBM Rational Web Developer by using the IBM Rational Product Updater. You should install this feature directly from the IBM update server. However, you can also download a ZIP file that contains this feature for local installations. The following sections describe how to install this feature.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

The following prerequisites exist for this feature:

• IBM Rational Web Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 6.0.
• BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 SP3, 7.0 SP5, or 6.1 SP7 (not supported on Windows^® XP). These must be installed locally even if the target deployment server is not local.

Before you can install this feature, you must install IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.0.4, available at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/updater/60/zips/rpu_6004.zip.

Also, if you disabled any product features through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, or by modifying feature.xml files, you must re-enable them before you install this feature.

3.0 Installing the feature

Install the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Web Developer.

Restrictions:

• Rational Web Developer cannot be open when you install this feature.
• On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges.

To install the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater:
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.



2. Click Find Optional Features.


If the Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.


3. By default, all available features are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server.


Tip: To view the description for this feature, click the feature. The description is displayed in the Detailed information pane.


4. Click Install Features.
5. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.


Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the feature might take an extended period of time to download and install.

After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.


6. Close the Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Downloading the feature for local installations

You should install the feature directly from the IBM update server; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download the feature in the following situations:

• You have a slow or unstable Internet connection and want to use a download manager that can resume the download.
• You have difficulty accessing the live IBM update servers from behind a firewall.
• You prefer to download the feature and install it later.

To download and install the feature for Rational Web Developer, complete the following steps:

1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rwd/60/zips/WLToolkit_60_Features_RWD.zip.
2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
3. For installation instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rwd\ and open install_local_WLToolkit_60.html.

5.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the Rational Web Developer update server in the following situations:

• You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.
• You administer a set of product installations that would benefit from a local mirror of the update server.

6.0 Uninstalling the feature

Uninstall the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Web Developer.

Restrictions:

• Rational Web Developer cannot be open when you uninstall this feature.
• On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges.

To uninstall the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater:
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.



2. Click the Rollbacks tab.


The Rollbacks page shows an inventory of updates and optional features that are currently installed for Rational Web Developer.


3. Select IBM Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server.


Dependencies between updates are automatically enforced. If you select to roll back an update that is required by other installed updates, the updates that depend on the update are also selected to be rolled back.


4. Click Roll Back Updates.
5. Close the Rational Product Updater.
