1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install or update a downloaded version of the IBM® Rational Rose® Model Import feature. This document also links to instructions that describe how to create a local mirror of your product update server.

Note: Some code samples in this document are specific to IBM Rational® Software Architect. If you use IBM Rational Software Modeler, edit the variable names and directory names in the code as appropriate.

2.0 Installation and update prerequisites

Before you can install or update this feature you must install either Rational Software Architect Refresh Pack 6.0.1 or Rational Software Modeler Refresh Pack 6.0.1.

If you disabled any product features by modifying the feature.xml files or through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, you must enable them before you install this feature.

3.0 Installing the feature

If you have already installed a previous version of this feature, you do not have to install the feature again. Please see section 4.0 Updating the feature for instructions that describe how to update this feature.

Install the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To install the feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

    Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  2. Click Preferences > Update Sites.

  3. Navigate to temp_dir\rsa\policy_rmi_601.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted feature.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Click Find Optional Features.

  6. Select IBM Rational Rose Model Import.

  7. Click Install Features.

  8. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.

    Depending on the speed of your computer processor and the amount of RAM in your computer, the feature might take an extended period of time to install.

    After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.

  9. Close Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Updating the feature

Update the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To update the feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

    Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.,

  2. Click Preferences > Update Sites.

  3. Navigate to temp_dir\rsa\policy_rmi_601.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted feature.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Click Find Updates.

  6. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational Rose Model Import.

  7. Click Install Updates.

  8. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.

    Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the feature might take an extended period of time to download and install.

    After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.

  9. Close Rational Product Updater.

5.0 Installing features from a command line

You can install features from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.

6.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the update server in the following situations:

7.0 Uninstalling the feature

Uninstall the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To uninstall the feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

    Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  2. Click the Rollbacks tab. An inventory of installed product updates and features is displayed on the Rollbacks page.

  3. Select IBM Rational Rose Model Import.

    Dependencies between updates are enforced automatically. If you select to roll back an update on which other installed updates depend, the dependent updates are also selected to roll back.

  4. Click Roll Back Updates.

  5. Close Rational Product Updater.
