1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install or update the IBM^® Rational^® SoDA Integration feature by using the IBM Rational^® Product Updater. You should install or update this feature directly from the IBM update server. However, you can also download a ZIP file that contains this feature for local installations or updates. The following sections describe how to install or update this feature.

2.0 Installation and update prerequisites

Before you can install or update this feature you must install either IBM Rational Software Architect Fix Pack 6.0.0.1 or IBM Rational Software Modeler Fix Pack 6.0.0.1.

Warning for users upgrading from IBM Rational SoDA Integration version 6.0.0.003

Issues can occur when upgrading from SoDA integration version 6.0.0.003. For detailed information read the IBM Rational SoDA Integration Release Notes available at www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/rsa/60/html/6.0.0.1/soda/readme.html.

This feature offers support for the integration of IBM Rational SoDA for Word version 2003.06.14 or later.

Caution:  Before you can use the Rational Software Modeling SoDA Integration, you must go to the SoDA Patch Download web page at:

Select the link which indicates "Rational SoDA for Word V2003.06.14 - Rational Software Architect Integration". This web page includes a link to the SoDA RSA Integration patch and the readme file which describes the patch in detail and how to install it. The SoDA Integration will not work properly until this patch is installed.

Also, if you disabled any product features through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, or by modifying feature.xml files, you must re-enable them before you install this feature.

3.0 Installing the feature

Note: If you have already installed a previous version of this feature, you do not have to install the feature again. Please see section 4.0 Updating the feature for instructions that describe how to update this feature.

Install the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.

Restrictions:

• Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler cannot be open when you install this feature.
• On Windows^® operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges.

To install the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater by clicking Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
   
2. Click Find Optional Features.


If the Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.


3. By default, all available features are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational SoDA Integration.


Tip: To view the description for this feature, click the feature. The description is displayed in the Detailed information pane.


4. Click Install Features.
5. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.


Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the feature might take an extended period of time to download and install.

After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.


6. Close the Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Updating the feature

Update the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.

Restrictions:

• Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler cannot be open when you update this feature.
• On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges.

To update the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater by clicking Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
   
2. Click Find Updates.


If the Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.


3. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational SoDA Integration.


Tip: To view the description for this feature, click the feature. The description is displayed in the Detailed information pane.


4. Click Install Updates.
5. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.

5.0 Downloading the feature for local installations or updates

You should install or update the feature directly from the IBM update server; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download the feature in the following situations:

• You have a slow or unstable Internet connection and want to use a download manager that can resume the download.
• You have difficulty accessing the live IBM update servers from behind a firewall.
• You prefer to download the feature and install or update it later.

To download and install or update the feature for Rational Software Architect, complete the following steps:

1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsa/60/zips/rsa60_soda_feature6001.zip.
2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
3. For installation and update instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rsa\ and open install_local_soda_6001.html.

To download and install or update the feature for Rational Software Modeler, complete the following steps:

1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsm/60/zips/rsm60_soda_ifeature6001.zip.
2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
3. For installation and update instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rsm\ and open install_local_soda_6001.html.

6.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the Rational Software Architect update server or the Rational Software Modeler update server in the following situations:

• You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.
• You administer a set of product installations that would benefit from a local mirror of the update server.

7.0 Uninstalling the feature

Uninstall the feature with the same user account that installed Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.

Restrictions:

• Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler cannot be open when you uninstall this feature.
• On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges.

To uninstall the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater by clicking Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
   
2. Click the Rollbacks tab.


The Rollbacks page shows an inventory of updates and optional features that are currently installed for Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Modeler.


3. Select IBM Rational SoDA Integration.


Dependencies between updates are automatically enforced. If you select to roll back an update that is required by other installed updates, the updates that depend on the update are also selected to be rolled back.


4. Click Roll Back Updates.
5. Close the Rational Product Updater.
