1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install a downloaded version of IBM^® Rational^® Performance Tester 6.1 IFix000a. This document also links to instructions that describe how to create a local mirror of your product update server.

If you have not already completed the download, see Downloading the ifix for local installations for more information.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

Before you can install this feature, you must install IBM Rational Performance Tester 6.1.

Also, if you disabled any product features through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, or by modifying feature.xml files, you must re-enable them before you install this ifix.

3.0 Configuring the Rational Product Updater to install the local ifix

Install the ifix with the same user account that installed IBM Rational Performance Tester.

Restrictions:

• Rational Performance Tester 6.1 cannot be open when you install this ifix.
• On Windows^® operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux^® operating systems, you must use the root user account.

To install the ifix, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater:
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
   • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
   • On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.

Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.


2. Click Preferences > Update Sites.
3. Navigate to temp_dir\rpt\policy_6101.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted ifix. See Downloading the ifix for local installations for more information.
4. Click OK.
5. Click Find Updates.


If your computer does not have Internet access, or cannot connect to the live IBM update server, a warning appears in the Rational Product Updater that states that other update sites are not available. You can ignore this warning if you installed IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.0.4.

If your computer has Internet access and can connect to the live IBM update server, and if the Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.


6. Select IBM Rational Performance Tester 6.1.0 Interim Fix 000a. To read the IFix release notes prior to installing, click Interim Fix 000a. The notes appear in the Detailed Information window.



7. Click Install Updates.
8. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.


Depending on the speed of your computer processor and the amount of RAM in your computer, the update might take an extended period of time to install.

After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.


9. Close the Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the Rational Performance Tester update server in the following situations:

• You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.
• You administer a set of product installations that would benefit from a local mirror of the update server.

5.0 Uninstalling the ifix

This ifix cannot be uninstalled.
