1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install IBM^® Rational^® Performance Tester 6.1 IFix000a by using the IBM Rational Product Updater. This ifix is provided as an update. You should download this ifix directly from the IBM update server. However, you can also download a ZIP file that contains this ifix for local installations. The following sections describe how to install this ifix.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

Before you can install this feature, you must install IBM Rational Performance Tester 6.1.

Also, if you disabled any product features through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, or by modifying feature.xml files, you must re-enable them before you install this ifix.

3.0 Installing the ifix

Install the ifix with the same user account that installed IBM Rational Performance Tester.

Restrictions:

• Rational Performance Tester cannot be open when you install this ifix.
• On Windows^® operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux^® operating systems, you must use the root user account.

To install the ifix, complete the following steps:

1. Start the Rational Product Updater:
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
   • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
   • On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.

Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.


2. Click Find Updates.


If the Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater installs the update and retrieves a list of available updates.


3. Interim Fix 000a and Interim Fix 001 are listed under IBM Rational Performance Tester 6.1.0. They will both be checked by default. Interim Fix 001 cannot be installed without Interim Fix 000a. To read the IFix release notes prior to installing, click the fix name. The notes appear in the Detailed Information window.



4. Click Install Updates.
5. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.


Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the update might take an extended period of time to download and install.

After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.


6. Close the Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Downloading the ifix for local installations

You should install the ifix directly from the IBM update server; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download and install the ifix in the following situations:

• You have a slow or unstable Internet connection and want to use a download manager that can resume the download.
• You have difficulty accessing the live IBM update servers from behind a firewall.
• You prefer to download the ifix and install it later.

To download and install the ifix, complete the following steps:

1. Download the ifix from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rpt/61/zips/rpt61_ifix000a.zip.
2. Extract the ifix to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
3. For installation instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rpt\ and open install_local_ifix000a.html.

5.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the Rational Performance Tester update server in the following situations:

• You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.
• You administer a set of product installations that would benefit from a local mirror of the update server.

6.0 Uninstalling the ifix

This ifix cannot be uninstalled.
