1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install or update a downloaded version of IBM^® Rational^® Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server for IBM Rational Application Developer. This document also links to instructions that describe how to create a local mirror of your product update server.

2.0 Installation and update prerequisites

To download, extract, and install or update the feature from a ZIP file, you will require 20 MB of disk space.

The following prerequisites exist for this feature:

• IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere^® Software Fix Pack 6.0.1.

  Installation instructions for Rational Application Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1 are available at www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/rad/60/install_instruction/601/install.html.

• BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 SP3, 7.0 SP5, or 6.1 SP7 (not supported on Windows^® XP). These must be installed locally even if the target deployment server is not local.
• Windows 2000 or Windows XP

Also, if you disabled any product features by modifying the feature.xml files or through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, you must enable them before you install this feature.

3.0 Installing the feature

Important: If you have already installed Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server version 6.0.0, you must uninstall it before installing this version. Please see section 7.0 Uninstalling the feature for instructions on uninstalling the feature. Once the uninstall process is complete, you may install the new version using the instructions provided below. However, if you have already installed Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server version 6.0.0.1, you do not have to uninstall it. Please see section 4.0 Updating the feature for instructions that describe how to update this feature to the latest version.

Install the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

• The product cannot be open when you install this feature.
• You must use an account with Administrator privileges.

To install the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start Rational Product Updater:
   • Click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.



2. Click Preferences > Update Sites.
3. Navigate to temp_dir\rad\policy_WLToolkit_601.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted feature.
4. Click OK.
5. Click Find Optional Features if an earlier version of the IBM Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server feature is not already installed.
6. Select IBM Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server version 6.0.1.
7. Click Install Features.
8. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.


Depending on the speed of your computer processor and the amount of RAM in your computer, the feature might take an extended period of time to install.

After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.


9. Close Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Updating the feature

Update the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

• The product cannot be open when you update this feature.
• You must use an account with Administrator privileges.
• You can only update Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server version 6.0.0.1.

To update the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start Rational Product Updater:
   • Click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.



2. Click Preferences > Update Sites.
3. Navigate to temp_dir\rad\policy_WLToolkit_601.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted feature.
4. Click OK.
5. Click Find Updates if an earlier version of the IBM Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server feature is already installed.
6. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server version 6.0.1.
7. Click Install Updates.
8. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.


Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the update might take an extended period of time to download and install.

After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.


9. Close Rational Product Updater.

5.0 Installing features from a command line

You can install features from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.

6.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the update server in the following situations:

• You administer a set of product installations and want to control which updates are available to users.
• You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.

For instructions on how to create a local mirror of the Rational Application Developer update server, visit www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/rad/60/local_mirror/601/local_mirror.html.

7.0 Uninstalling the feature

Uninstall the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

• The product cannot be open when you uninstall this feature.
• You must use an account with Administrator privileges.

To uninstall the feature, complete the following steps:

1. Start Rational Product Updater:
   • Click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.



2. Click the Rollbacks tab. An inventory of installed product updates and features is displayed on the Rollbacks page.
3. Select IBM Rational Deployment Toolkit for WebLogic Server.


Dependencies between updates are enforced automatically. If you select to roll back an update on which other installed updates depend, the dependent updates are also selected to roll back.


4. Click Roll Back Updates.
5. Close Rational Product Updater.
