1.0 Overview
This document describes how to install or update the J2EE Connector Tools Feature for IBM® Rational® Application Developer and IBM Rational Software Architect by using IBM Rational® Product Updater.
You should use Rational Product Updater to install or update this feature directly from the IBM update server; however, you can also download a ZIP file that contains this feature and then use
Rational Product Updater to perform local installations or updates. The following sections describe how to install or update this feature.
2.0 Installation and update prerequisites
This section describes the installation prerequisites specific to this feature.
To install or update the feature directly from the IBM update server, you will require 60 MB of disk space.
If you download, extract, and install or update the feature from a ZIP file, you will require 100 MB of disk space.
Before you can install this fix pack, you must install:
- IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.1 or later.
- You must also install one of the following updates to Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect:
- Rational Application Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.2
- Rational Application Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.1
- Rational Application Developer Refresh Pack 6.0.1
- Rational Software Architect Fix Pack 6.0.1.2
- Rational Software Architect Fix Pack 6.0.1.1
- Rational Software Architect Refresh Pack 6.0.1
Note: It is recommended that you install Rational Application Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.2 or Rational Software Architect Fix Pack 6.0.1.2 if you do not have a prerequisite version of these products installed.

Important: If you want to update Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect to version 6.0.1.2, 6.0.1.1 or 6.0.1 from a downloaded ZIP of the update and you have the J2EE Connector Tools Feature version 6.0.0.1 or earlier already installed on your system, then you must take the following steps:
- Uninstall the J2EE Connector Tools Feature version 6.0.0.1 or earlier.
- Install the Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect 6.0.1.x update.
- Install the J2EE Connector Tools Feature version 6.0.1.5.
Note that these steps are not necessary if you are updating both Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect and the J2EE Connector Tools Feature directly from the IBM update site or from a local mirror of the update site.
If you disabled any product features by modifying the feature.xml files or through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration,
you must enable them before you install this fix pack.
3.0 Installing the feature
If you have already installed a previous version of this feature, you do not have to install the feature again.
Please see section 4.0 Updating the feature for instructions that describe how to update this feature.
Install the feature with the same user account that installed the product.
Restrictions:
- The product cannot be open when you install this feature.
- On Windows® operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux® operating systems, you must log in as root.
To install the feature directly from the IBM update server, complete the following steps:
- Start Rational Product Updater:
- On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
- On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product
shortcuts might not appear in the default location.
- Click Find Optional Features if an earlier version of the J2EE Connector Tools feature is not already installed.
If Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. Rational Product Updater installs the update,
restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.
- By default, all available features are selected. Ensure that you select J2EE Connector Tools.
- Click Install Features.
- To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.
Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the feature might take an extended period of time to download and install.
After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.
- Close Rational Product Updater.
4.0 Updating the feature
Update the feature with the same user account that installed the product.
Restrictions:
- The product cannot be open when you update this feature.
- On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must log in as root.
To update the feature directly from the IBM update server, complete the following steps:
- Start Rational Product Updater:
- On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
- On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product

- Click Find Updates if an earlier version of the J2EE Connector Tools feature is already installed.
If Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. Rational Product Updater installs the update,

- By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select J2EE Connector Tools.
- Click Install Updates.
- To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.
Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the update might take an extended period of time to download and install.
After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.
- Close Rational Product Updater.
You should install or update the feature directly from the IBM update server as described above; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download the feature in the following situations:
- You have a slow or unstable Internet connection and want to use a download manager that can resume the download.
- You have difficulty accessing the live IBM update servers from behind a firewall.
- You prefer to download the feature and install or update it later.
To download the feature for Rational Application Developer, complete the following steps:
- Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rad/60/zips/rad601_J2C6015.zip.
- Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
To download the feature for Rational Software Architect, complete the following steps:
- Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsa/60/zips/rsa601_J2C6015.zip.
- Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
If you have already installed a previous version of this feature, you do not have to install the feature again. Please see section
5.3 Updating the feature for instructions that describe how to update this feature.

- On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must log in as root.
To install the feature, complete the following steps:
- Start Rational Product Updater:
- On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
- On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product
shortcuts might not appear in the default location.
- Click Preferences > Update Sites.
- Navigate to temp_dir\rad\policy_601_J2C6015.xml or temp_dir\rsa\policy_601_J2C6015.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted feature.
- Click OK.
- Click Find Optional Features if an earlier version of the J2EE Connector Tools feature is not already installed.
If your computer does not have Internet access or cannot connect to the live IBM update server, a warning appears in
IBM Rational Product Updater that states that other
update sites are not available. You can ignore this warning if you installed IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.1 or later.
If your computer has Internet access and can connect to the live IBM update server, and if
IBM Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can
continue. Click OK. IBM Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.
- Select J2EE Connector Tools.
- Click Install Features.
- To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.
Depending on the speed of your computer processor and the amount of RAM in your computer, the feature might take an extended period of time to install.
After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.
- Close Rational Product Updater.
Update the feature with the same user account that installed the product.
Restrictions:
- The product cannot be open when you update this feature.
- On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must log in as root.

- Close Rational Product Updater.
6.0 Installing features from a command line
You can install features from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.

7.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server
You might want to create a local mirror of the update server in the following situations:
- You administer a set of product installations and want to control which updates are available to users.
- You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.

8.0 Uninstalling the feature
Uninstall the feature with the same user account that installed the product.
Restrictions:
- The product cannot be open when you uninstall this feature.
- On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must log in as root.
To uninstall the feature, complete the following steps:
- Start Rational Product Updater:
- On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
- On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product
shortcuts might not appear in the default location.
- Click the Rollbacks tab. An inventory of installed product updates and features is displayed on the Rollbacks page.
- Select J2EE Connector Tools.
Dependencies between updates are enforced automatically. If you select to roll back an update on which other installed updates depend, the dependent updates are also selected to roll back.
- Click Roll Back Updates.
- Close Rational Product Updater.
9.0 IBM Rational Software Support
IBM Rational Software Support provides you with technical assistance.
When you contact customer support, the support representative will require the versions of the installed
products or interim features on your system.
To determine the versions, complete the following steps:
- Start IBM Rational Product Updater:
- If the product is running, click Help > Software Updates > IBM Rational Product Updater.
- On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
- On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
- Click the Installed Products tab.
