1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install IBM® Rational® Functional Tester Extension for Terminal-based Applications (FTE) v1.2.1 Interim Fix 001. FTE is an extension to IBM® Rational® Functional Tester (RFT). This interim fix is provided as an update. You should use Rational Product Updater (RPU) to install this interim fix directly from the IBM update server; however, you can also download a ZIP file that contains this interim fix and then use Rational Product Updater to perform local installations. The following sections describe how to install this interim fix.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

Before you can install this interim fix, you must install IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.1 or later. In Rational Product Updater, if you use the default update site preferences, IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.1 is automatically installed when you search for updates or optional features. However, if you change the default update site preferences by clicking Preferences > Update Sites, you must restore the default settings before you can install the interim fix.

To install FTE v1.2.1 Interim Fix 001, you must first install FTE v1.2.1 and its prerequisite, RFT v6.1. The recommended level of RFT is RFT v6.1.1.1 or later. Note that you must install RFT before you install FTE. In addition, to create Visual Basic scripts, you must install Microsoft® Visual Studio® .NET(TM) before you install RFT.

FTE v1.2.1 and FTE v1.2.1 Interim Fix 001 install on top of RFT v6. They cannot be installed on top of RFT v7.

3.0 Installing the interim fix directly from the IBM update site

Install the interim fix with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To install the interim fix directly from the IBM update server, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater. Click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.

  2. Click Find Updates.
  3. If Rational Product Updater requires an update, you will be prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.
  4. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select Interim Fix 001.
  5. Click Install Updates.
  6. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.
  7. Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the update might take an extended period of time to download and install.
    After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.
  8. Close Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Downloading the interim fix for local installations

You should install the interim fix directly from the IBM update server as described above; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download and install the interim fix in the following situations:

To download and install the interim fix, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the interim fix from http://www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/fte/12/zips
  2. Extract the interim fix to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
  3. Start Rational Product Updater.
  4. Click Preferences > Update Sites
  5. Navigate to temp_dir\fte\policy_121_iFix001.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted fix.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Install the interim fix as described previously in this document.

5.0 Installing product updates from a command line

You can install product updates, such as interim fixes, fix packs, and refresh packs, from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.
