To run Rational Directory Administration 5.1 Client you need:

One of the following operating systems installed on your computer:
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Standard, Enterprise Edition (SP1 or R2)
- Microsoft Windows XP SP2
- Microsoft Windows Vista
- Sun Solaris 10 Operating System 64 bit SPARC
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 operating system 32 and 64 bit

The minimum system requirements are:

RAM
1. 1-2 GB RAM for evaluation purposes.
2. At least 4 GB and more for production servers.
Local Disk Space

At least 5 GB disk space for UNIX and 2 GB for Windows binaries. For evaluation purposes, an additional 2GB local disk space for server software might be sufficient.
For production servers, consider the number of entries stored in RDS for local disk space usage.

The following packages needs to be installed before installing the Rational Directory Server:

1. glibc-devel

2. glibc-headers

3. libaio

4. compat-libstdc++

Some of the rpm names of these packages are:

· glibc-2.5-18.i686.rpm

· glibc-common-2.5-18.i686.rpm

· glibc-common-devel-2.5-18.i686.rpm

· glibc-headers-2.5-18.i686.rpm

· nscd-2.5-18.i686.rpm

The rpm name could end with "i386" based on the hardware details (/ confirm with command "uname -m").

Libraries libstdc++so.5 and libaio.so.1 should exist.

You might need to upgrade to the latest patch level of these packages. For more information on the patches, see the Red Hat support site at http://rhn.redhat.com.

Operating system locales supported by Rational Directory Server 5.1

Rational Directory Server supports use in any locale using the UTF-8 character set (on UNIX) or CP 1252 (on Windows). Use in locales using other character sets is not supported. RDS does not adapt messages, numeric formats, or sorting orders according to the locale (other than English US locale).

Obtaining a license for Rational Directory Server

By accepting the End User License Agreement (EULA), you agree to the terms of the License agreement. The RDS should be used with other licensed products.

What's new in version 5.1

Support for Separate User and Group Search base

In corporate mode, the RDS partition can now be configured for different user and group search base.

Support for partition meta groups

The partition can now be configured to only have visibility to specific users and groups defined by User and Group meta group respectively. This allows limiting user access to intergrating applications like IBM Rational DOORS.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (T-FA) is a security process wherein the user provides two means of identification to authenticate to the server. You can configure the Rational Directory Server (RDS) to enable Two-factor authentication (T-FA) to integrate with the Radius Server. This feature is supported only by DOORS product to connect to the Radius Server.

Data Migration

The RDS supports data migration from TDS 3.0, 4.2, 4.3, 5.0 and RDS 5.1 to the current RDS 5.1 repository. For more information on the data migration, see the Rational Directory Server Product Manual or Online Help.

Note: Data migration from TDS 3.0 to any of 4.2, 4.3 and 5.0 version requires "cn=admin" privilege. Migration from TDS 4.2, 4.3, 5.0 or RDS 5.1 to RDS 5.1 requires Admin DN to be set as "uid=tdsadmin,ou=people,dc=telelogic,dc=com"

Known problems

Description	Workaround
After migration, the data inconsistency is observed.	After migration, restart the RDS Tivoli Directory Server.
The Tivoli Directory Server back up and restore fails.	You must provide the home directory *<RDS Install location>/Instance* for the tdsadmin user.
The Customize Find displays error messages.	Use normal Find option to avoid errors.
On UNIX platform, the RDS is not supported on NFS mounted systems.

Tlog#47217	TDS installation fails if tdsadmin password contains special characters like dollar sign($) etc.	Fixed. The Tivoli Directory Server installation is terminated if the password is not accepted by the installer.
