System requirements

To run Telelogic DOORS 9.1 Database Server you need:

• One of the following operating systems installed on your computer:
  
  
  • Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition SP1.
  • Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition SP1. Clustering is not supported.
  • Windows 2003 Server R2 32-bit or 64-bit.
  • Windows XP Professional SP2 or SP3 32-bit or 64-bit.
  • Windows Vista Business Edition SP1 32-bit or 64-bit.
  • Windows Vista Enterprise Edition SP1 32-bit.
  • Solaris 9 32-bit or 64-bit.
  • Solaris 10 32-bit or 64-bit (prior to the Solaris 10 release 08/07).
  • HP-UX 11i 64-bit.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 32-bit.
  • VMWARE ESX Server v3.5 running Windows 2003 Server R2 (Standard or Enterprise Edition).
  • VMWARE ESX Server v3.5 running Windows 2003 Server R2 x64 (Standard or Enterprise Edition).
  • VMWARE Workstation v6.0 running Windows XP Professional SP2 or SP3.

• The minimum system requirements for Windows® are:

  • At least 100 MB of free disk space for installation and use
  • At least a 400MHz processor

• The minimum system requirements for UNIX®, Linux®, Solaris® and HP-UX® are:
  
  
  • Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for RAM
  • At least 100 MB of free disk space for installation and use

To run the Telelogic DOORS 9.1 Client you need:

  • Windows Terminal Server on Windows 2003 Server x64 (Standard or Enterprise Edition)

  • Windows Vista Enterprise Edition SP1 32-bit
  • Citrix Presentation Server V4.5 on Windows 2003 Server R2 (Standard or Enterprise Edition)
  • Citrix Presentation Server V4.5 on Windows 2003 Server R2 x64 (Standard or Enterprise Edition)
  • VMWARE Workstation v6.0 running Windows XP SP2 or SP3
  • VMWARE Workstation v6.0 running Windows Vista SP1 (Enterprise or Business Edition)
    

• The minimum system requirements are:
  
  
  • At least 128 MB RAM and a 350MHz processor
  • At least 200 MB of free disk space
  • TCP/IP

Other requirements are:

• Your monitor resolution must be at least 800 by 600 pixels. We recommend at least 1024 by 768.



• If your display card supports only 256 colors, you may experience unusual color effects. Although this will not affect underlying data, we recommend you use a display that supports more than 256 colors.
  


• The computer where you install the DOORS database server must be running TCP/IP.



• If you want to use FLEXnet® licenses, the computer where you install the FLEXnet license server must be running TCP/IP.



• In order to download and install DOORS 9.1, your organization must have a license with valid maintenance and be running version 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5 of the Telelogic License Server.

Installing Telelogic DOORS 9.1

If you already have DOORS, the version that you have (i.e. whether it is patched or unpatched) does not affect the way in which DOORS 9.1 is installed. In all cases DOORS 9.1 is installed into a new directory named DOORS 9.1 by default, and after successful installation your current version of DOORS remains on your system.

You cannot install DOORS 9.1 into the same directory as your current DOORS installation. If you try to do this the installation will fail.

Obtaining a license for Telelogic DOORS

If this is your first installation of DOORS, you need to obtain a license from Telelogic. You also need to install version 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5 of the Telelogic License Server.

For information on how to obtain a license from Telelogic, and how to install the Telelogic License Server, see the Telelogic Lifecycle Solutions Licensing Guide. A printed version is available along with the Telelogic Lifecycle Solutions DVD. It is also available in PDF format on the Telelogic Lifecycle Solutions DVD, and on the Support Web site.

If you are already running DOORS, the action you need to take depends on the version of DOORS you are running, and whether you have a valid maintenance agreement:

• If you are running DOORS 8.2 or 8.3, and you have a valid maintenance agreement, you do not need a new license to install and run DOORS 9.1.



• If you are running DOORS 8.2 or 8.3, and do not have a valid maintenance agreement, a message is displayed:
  
  The FEATURE name DOORS with version 2008.1101 cannot be found.
  License server does not support this version of the feature
  
  If this message is displayed, you need to obtain a new license.



• If you are running a version of DOORS earlier than 8.2, you need a new license to run DOORS, and you also need to install either version 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5 of the Telelogic License Server.

What's new in version 9.1

• Telelogic rebranding
  
  Telelogic is now part of IBM®, and the work has begun to rebrand Telelogic DOORS to bring it into the IBM family. Much of the look and feel of DOORS remains largely unchanged with most of the changes "behind the scenes". There are a number of third party libraries that have been reviewed in conjunction with IBM and either been upgraded or replaced - for example the DXL Encryption tool and the DOORS regular expression library.
  
  Rebranding is an incremental process and will continue in future releases of Telelogic DOORS.
  
  
• DOORS Discussions
  
  You can now control the access for DOORS discussions on the Database Properties sheet, and, for modules and objects within a module, on the module properties sheet.
  
  Also, if you have the appropriate access rights, you can now delete discussions.
  
  You need to be using a Telelogic DOORS 9.1 Database Server, and the server must be configured to exclude DOORS 9.0 clients to make the new discussions functionality available.
  
  
• Regular expression engine
  
  The regular expression engine has changed. Steps have been taken to ensure DXL compatibility but there may be differences in DXL execution between Telelogic DOORS 8.3 and 9.0 and Telelogic DOORS 9.1. If any issues arise, contact Customer Support.
  
  
• DXL Encryption
  
  DXL encryption has been changed and as a result DXL which has been encrypted and is being used in previous versions will not work with Telelogic DOORS 9.1.
  
  The following areas are affected:
  
  
• Existing user encrypted DXL
  
  Existing user-encrypted DXL will need to be re-encrypted using the new encryption tool, Telelogic® DOORS Extension Language Encryption Tool™, available from the DOORS download area of the Support website. DXL encrypted with Telelogic DOORS 9.0 or earlier will not work with Telelogic DOORS 9.1. If you do not have the source DXL files for any DXL that needs to be re-encrypted, contact Customer Support for help with re-encryption.
  
  
• Telelogic DOORS client compatibility
  
  Telelogic DOORS 9.0 and Telelogic DOORS 9.1 clients can connect to a DOORS Database Server that is either version 9.0 or 9.1. However, existing encrypted DXL will not function in the Telelogic DOORS 9.1 client, and DXL that is encrypted with the new DXL encryption tool will not function in Telelogic DOORS 9.0. Encrypted DXL is normally accessed using a ‘#include’ statement to load DXL for functionality such as triggers, layout or attribute DXL and Formal Module menu items. Use of a central location for direct access of DXL files, along with tools that copy DXL from a central server location to local clients, will be most affected by this. Telelogic recommends running Telelogic DOORS 9.1 clients with a Telelogic DOORS 9.1 Database Server to allow the smoothest transition to the new version.
  
  
• DOORS/Net
  
  Customers who want to use DOORS/Net must use version 9.0 installed on a machine that has the Telelogic DOORS 9.0 client. Using DOORS/Net 9.0 on a machine where a Telelogic DOORS 9.1 client is installed is not supported. The same limitation for layout and attribute DXL columns mentioned in the previous point for mixed Telelogic DOORS clients, also applies here.
  
  
• Installation
  
  DXL in the local addins directory for a Telelogic DOORS 9.0 installation will not be copied to the Telelogic DOORS 9.1 addins area. This DXL must be manually copied into the corresponding 9.1 area, ensuring that any encrypted DXL is re-encrypted.
  
  
• Integrations
  
  Existing integrations with Telelogic DOORS that include encrypted DXL files will need to be updated. New versions of the integrations supplied by Telelogic will be released with Telelogic DOORS 9.1. Third-party vendors will need to be contacted for other integrations.
  
  
• Telelogic DOORS Web Access
  
  Customers who are using Telelogic DOORS Web Access and who install Telelogic DOORS 9.1 must install version v1.1 of Telelogic DOORS Web Access, which will be released with Telelogic DOORS 9.1. Version 1.0 is not supported with Telelogic DOORS 9.1.

Limitations

Spelling Checker

There may be some languages supplied with the spelling checker, for example Russian that don't supply alternative text when errors are detected during a spelling check.

When you set up the options for checking spelling in certain languages a Modes panel is displayed on the Options dialog box. In some languages the modes that are available are meaningless. For example, if the selected language is Russian, the modes Je and Jo are displayed.

These issues are a result of limitations in the third party software used by DOORS to provide spelling checker capabilities.

Hidden Text

DOORS doesn't support hidden text. For example, if you copy text including hidden text from Microsoft Word and paste it into a DOORS module, the text that is displayed in the module explorer is different to that displayed in the object.

View Inheritance Settings and Partitions

View inheritance settings aren't preserved correctly when DOORS 8.1 partitions are imported or exported by DOORS 8.0 clients.
