IBM Rational RFE Community | Additional information on the IBM Rational RFE CommunityRational Closed-loop Request for Enhancement (RFE) Process

What is the Rational RFE Community?

Within the Rational® Software RFE Community, you may collaborate with Rational development teams and other product users through your ability to search, view, comment on, submit, and track product requests for enhancement (RFEs). All RFEs requested through the RFE Community have disposition within the standard IBM Rational RFE process. More information on that process and client expectations can be found here: http://ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=1090&uid=swg21268215

You can learn more about the Rational RFE community by listening to the developerWorks podcast "Looking at the new Rational RFE Community" podcast (13:09) with Beth Friday, Rational's Vice President of Worldwide Client Support, and David Salinas, developerWorks' Rational RFE Community application project lead.

Note: The Rational RFE Community is intended for enhancement requests only. The Community is limited to those cases where it is clear that the product is working as designed and additional functionality is desired. It is not intended as a substitute for troubleshooting product issues or creating defects.

Benefits

Clients using Rational Software products are encouraged to use the Rational RFE Community Portal to take advantage of the following benefits:
  • Better understand our product roadmap vy viewing RFEs planned for future release.
  • Search and review RFEs of interest to other product users.
  • Avoid the need to open a ticket (PMR) with Rational Client Support for a request for simple enhancement.
  • Avoid the need to call Rational Client Support to determine the status of a given RFE.
  • Weigh in, comment on, or provide work-arounds for RFEs requested by other product users.
Benefits
To get started, set up an IBM web identity and an RFE Community screen name. You will be prompted to create both before you can submit a new RFE.

When setting up an identity, you may choose what information in addition to your screen name will be visible to others on the RFE Community. This decision might be driven by personal preference or your company's guidelines.

All RFEs on the Community have a range of status values at a given time. An explanation of these statuses are provided here:

If you have already created RFEs with IBM Rational Client Support and would like them to be visible to the RFE Community you should contact Rational Client Support to have them published, rather than creating a new request.

If you would like to suggest an enhancement or change to the Rational RFE Community itself, you may submit an RFE and choose "Rational RFE Community" as the product.

Any other comments can be submitted to ratlrfe@us.ibm.com.
