Setting the default Java Runtime for a Java 2-enabled browser

Netscape Version 6 or 7 or equivalent level of Mozilla

The Java 2 plug-in that you have installed may or may not have a setting to configure the Java Runtime for Netscape. If not, then the default setting is probably correct. Follow these steps to check the setting:

  1. Start the Java 2 Plug-in Control Panel. For help see Launching the Java 2 Plug-in Control Panel.
  2. Click the Browser tab.
  3. Find the statement that says, Java Plug-in will be used as the default Java Runtime in the following browser(s):
  4. Under this statement, the checkbox for Netscape 6 or Netscape 7 should be checked.
  5. If you change the setting of the checkbox then click Apply to apply the change.

The Java 2 plug-in

The Java 2 plug-in that you have installed may or may not have a setting to configure the Java Runtime for Microsoft Internet Explorer. If not, then the default setting is probably correct. Follow these steps to check the setting:

  1. Start the Java 2 Plug-in Control Panel. For help see Launching the Java 2 Plug-in Control Panel.
  2. Click the Browser tab.
  3. Find the statement that says, Java Plug-in will be used as the default Java Runtime in the following browser(s):
  4. Under this statement, the checkbox for Microsoft Internet Explorer should not be checked.
  5. If you change the setting of the checkbox then click Apply to apply the change.
