Hi all
I am an extensive user of Focal Point for management reporting and overviews - we generate overviews that show how many releases where on time/on budget etc. within a certain quarter, or how many projects are running over budget etc.

I would like to exchange ideas with other users on what new reporting features we should request from Focal Point to improve the communication aspect of the tool even further

I.e. - if anyone can tell me how they currently use reporting (technically and business-wise...) that would be inspirational.

/Jon

Not so much on specific report usage, but one thing we have seen will add a great value to FocalPoint usage would be the ability to make specific views available to non-users. This way report-like information can be available in real-time, rather than via the process "generate a report and then publish which will take some time and propably contain outdated information within 24 hours".

regards

Hey Jon,

Have you used the XML Export feature in FOcal Point and pumped that data in to a dedicated reporting tool like Crystal Reports or Business Objects? Focal Point is great for integrated "quick and dirty" reports but for in-depth reporting using something like Business Objects might be better for performance, cross organisational reporting i.e. with other tools and also provide richer reporting results.

At Symbian we have used this approach and it seems to work well.

See the Focal Point help documents on Report Integration:

I would also add that while the solution above gave us "snapshots" availible in the datawarehouse, the requirement for Historical reporting (i.e. reporting on changes over time- e.g. how many days was X in that state?) was not met on the application layer, and we are looking at a solution to take a feed from the database directly into the datawarehouse.
