You will
need approximately 2.0 GB to download and store all of the required compressed
files for each product and approximately an additional 3.5 GB to extract the
contents.
The following tables list the files
available for downloading to the computer where you plan to install the product:
This section provides the
instructions for installing Rational Software Architect RealTime Edition, Version
9.0 Beta from installation files that you downloaded from the beta website.
Before you begin
You must download all the installation files for Rational Software
Architect RealTime Edition,
Version 9.0 Beta and correctly extract the contents of the .zip files.
Procedure
- Depending on your user ID, complete one of the following
steps:
- If you are installing with administrator or root privileges:
- Start the launchpad:
- In the launchpad dialog box, click Install IBM Rational
Software Architect, or Install IBM Rational
Rational Software Architect for WebSphere.
- If you are not installing with administrator or root privileges:
- Change to the directory where you extracted the disk images.
- Run the following command for your operating system:
- For Windows: Run RSA_SETUP\InstallerImage_win32_x86\userinst.exe
or RSA4WS_SETUP\InstallerImage_win32_x86\userinst.exe.
- For Linux: Run RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_linux_gtk_x86/userinst
or RSA4WS_SETUP/InstallerImage_linux_gtk_x86/userinst.
- For OS X: Run RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86_64/./userinst
or RSA4WS_SETUP/InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86_64/./userinst.
IBM Installation
Manager starts.
- On the first page of the Install Packages wizard, ensure
that both IBM Installation Manager Version 1.6.2 and IBM
Rational Software Architect Version 9.0 Beta or IBM
Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Version 9.0 Beta are
selected, and then click Next.
Note: The
beta version of IBM Installation
Manager that you are installing can be used only for installing, modifying, and uninstalling
the packages provided with this beta release. You cannot use this
version of IBM Installation
Manager with other products or packages.
- On the Prerequisite page, click Next.
- On the Licenses page, read and accept the license agreements
for the selected packages.
- On the left-hand side of the License page,
click each package version to display its license agreement.
- If you agree to the terms of all of the license agreements,
click I accept the terms of the license agreements.
- Click Next to continue.
- On the first Location Page, specify the Shared Resources
directory and the Installation Manager directory.
Restriction: The directory path must not exceed 41 characters
or the installation will fail.
Note: For Linux: Ensure that you do not include any spaces
in the directory paths.
- Type the path for the Shared Resources Directory field,
or accept the default path. The shared resources directory contains
resources that can be shared by one or more package groups.
Note: You can specify the shared resources directory only once.
Use your disk with the most available space for to help ensure adequate
space for the shared resources of future packages. You cannot change
the directory location unless you uninstall all packages.
- In the Installation Manager Directory field,
type the path for the directory where you want to install Installation
Manager or accept the default path.
- Click Next.
- On the next Location page, specify the installation directory
for the package group and select the bit mode of the installation.
- In the Installation Directory field,
type the path for the installation directory for the package group
or accept the default.
Restriction: The directory
path must not exceed 41 characters or the installation will fail.
Note: For Linux: Ensure that you do not include
any spaces in the directory paths.
- If you operating system is 64-bit, then select 64-bit or 32-bit to
install the product in the corresponding bit mode. Note: For OS X, you
must select 64-bit because only 64-bit is
supported.
- Click Next.
- On the next Location page,
do not choose to extend an
Eclipse IDE and simply click Next to
continue.
- On the next Features page, select the package
features that you want to install.
- Optional: To see the dependency relationships
between features, select Show Dependencies.
- Optional: Click a feature to view its brief
description under Details.
- Select or clear features in the packages. Installation
Manager will automatically enforce any dependencies with other features
and display updated download size and disk space requirements for
the installation.
- When you are finished selecting features, click Next to
continue.
- On the help system configuration page, select one of the
following options and then click Next:
- Access help from the Web
- Download help and access content locally
- Access help from a server on your intranet
- On the Summary page, review your choices before installing
the product package. If you want to change the choices that you made
on previous pages, click Back, and make your
changes. When you are satisfied with your installation choices, click Install to
install the package. A progress indicator shows the
percentage of the installation completed.
- When the installation process is complete, a message confirms
the success of the process.
- Click View log file to open the
installation log file for the current session in a new window. You
must close the Installation Log window to continue.
- In the Install Package wizard, select whether you want
the product to start when you exit.
- Click Finish to start the selected
package. The Install Package wizard closes and you are returned to
the Start page of Installation Manager.
- Close IBM Installation Manager.
Starting the product
This section provides instructions for starting Rational Software
Architect or Rational Software Architect for WebSphere, Version 9.0 Beta.
You can start Rational Software
Architect or Rational Software Architect for WebSphere, Version 9.0 Beta from your desktop environment (for example, ) or from a command line.
To start Rational Software
Architect from a command line, run the following commands:
-
For Windows: <product installation
directory>\eclipse.exe -product com.ibm.rational.rsa.product.v90.ide
- For Linux: <product
installation directory>/eclipse -product com.ibm.rational.rsa.product.v90.ide
- For OS X: Use Finder to browse to the installation
folder in which the product was installed (By default, it is
/Users/your_user_id/IBM/SDP); then double-click
the eclipse executable file.
To start Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Software from a command line, run the following commands:
- For Windows: <product installation
directory>\eclipse.exe -product com.ibm.rational.rsaws.product.v90.ide
- For Linux: <product
installation directory>/eclipse -product com.ibm.rational.rsaws.product.v90.ide
- For OS X: Use Finder to browse to the installation
folder in which the product was installed (By default, it is
/Users/your_user_id/IBM/SDP); then double-click
the eclipse executable file.
Modifying installations
After installing Rational Software
Architect or Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Software,
Version 9.0 Beta, you can add or remove features that you installed
by using the Modify Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager.
To change your feature selections:
- Start IBM Installation Manager
Beta. (For example, click .)
- On the main page of IBM Installation Manger, click Modify.
- In the Modify Packages wizard, select the installation location
for Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Architect for WebSphere
Software, Version 9.0 Beta. Click Next.
- On the Features page, select the package features that you want
to install or remove. Click Next.
- On the Summary page, review your choices and then click Modify.
- When the modification process completes, click Finish.
- Close Installation Manager.
Uninstalling the product
This section provides instructions for uninstalling Rational Software Architect
or Rational Software
Architect for WebSphere Software, Version 9.0 Beta and IBM Installation Manager Beta.
To uninstall Rational Software Architect or Rational Software Architect for WebSphere Software,
Version
9.0 Beta, run the Uninstall Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager:
- Start IBM Installation Manager
Beta.
(For example, click .)
- On the main page of IBM Installation Manger, click Uninstall.
- Select the packages that you want to uninstall and then click Next.
- Click Uninstall.
- When the uninstall process completes, click Finish.
- Close Installation Manager.
Before you can uninstall IBM Installation Manager, you must first
uninstall all products that were installed by it. To uninstall IBM Installation Manager:
- For Windows: Use
the Add or Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel to uninstall IBM Installation Manager
Beta, for example:
- Click and then click Add or Remove
Programs.
- Select the entry for IBM Installation
Manager and click Remove. IBM Installation Manager
starts and opens the Uninstall Packages wizard.
- In the Uninstall Packages wizard, ensure that IBM Installation Manager is selected. Click Next.
- Click Uninstall.
- For Linux:
- Open a terminal window with root user privileges.
- Change directory to the uninstall directory of the installation
directory of IBM Installation Manager Beta (by default, /var/ibm/InstallationManager_Beta/uninstall).
- Run ./uninstall. IBM Installation Manager starts
and opens the Uninstall Packages wizard.
- In the Uninstall Packages wizard, ensure that IBM Installation Manager is selected. Click Next.
- Click Uninstall.
- For OS X:
- User Finder to locate the uninstall directory of the
installation directory of IBM Installation Manager Beta (by default,
/Users/your_user_id/var/ibm/InstallationManager_Beta/Uninstall).
- Run ./uninstall. IBM Installation Manager starts
and opens the Uninstall Packages wizard.
- In the Uninstall Packages wizard, ensure that IBM Installation Manager is selected. Click Next.
- Click Uninstall.

IBM WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools for
Eclipse is a lightweight set of tools for developing, assembling, and
deploying Java EE, OSGi, Web 2.0, and mobile applications to WebSphere
Application Server.
