Rational ClearCase is a client/server application. A Windows NT or Windows 2000 computer can be a server or a client, or both. A computer running Windows 98 or Windows Me can be a client only.
Features of a ClearCase server on Windows NT or Windows 2000:
Can contain registered locations where clients can create VOB and view storage directories
Can use ClearCase MultiSite to replicate VOBs and services
Can be a ClearCase registry, license, or credentials server
Can have all capabilities of a Windows NT, Windows Me, or Windows 2000 client
Features of a ClearCase client on Windows NT or Windows 2000 ClearCase:
Can use snapshot and dynamic views
Can have local VOBs and views
Features of a ClearCase client on Windows 98 or Windows Me:
Can use snapshot views and can have snapshot view directories
Cannot use dynamic views
Cannot be the location of VOB or view storage directories
Which features a ClearCase client or server has depends on the site defaults (established by the ClearCase Site Preparation Wizard) and on the options chosen if the person performing the installation overrides the site defaults.
