mainframe developers using a limited CM system (and with little or no

CCM07 Implementing TAS for UNIX/NT Interoperation by Hasmukh Ranjan, Sr. R & D Engineer, Synopsys, Inc.
UNIX and Windows interoperation has been a critical issue with ClearCase
Administrators. In this session, the audience will learn how to use Syntax TAS to
furnish robust interoperability. We will discuss the issues, tricks and
recommendations for handling them, and the advantages of using TAS instead of
an NFS-based approach.

CCM08 Techniques for Managing Development Views by Joe Leon Guerrero, Configuration Management and Integration Manager, Synopsys, Inc.
Synopsys' Design Tools Group has developed an alternative to the ClearCase
"wink-in" feature for sharing libraries and other derived objects. This is
particularly useful when development involves complex code interdependencies,
both with internal projects and with external third-party software. The talk
details use of reference views for development and integration activities.

In developing large embedded applications, configuration management tools are
essential to software quality. During recent projects with development teams of
8 to 18 engineers, we found that the ability to create custom code versions
quickly, isolate areas of code suspected of defect, and create diagnostic builds
significantly improve software quality.

Adapting a sophisticated code generator from a Make-driven build process to a
Clearmake-driven process has benefits: automatic dependency genera-tion,
traceability to original sources, and easier sharing of derived objects. Yet there
are challenges, too. This session presents techniques developed to address these
challenges using ClearCase and Rational Rose RealTime.

CCM11 ClearCase UNIX/Windows Interoperation by Kent Seith, Technical Support Engineer, Rational Software Tom Murdock, Development Engineer, Rational Software
This session presents in-depth information on the options, built into ClearCase
and available through third-party integrations, for deploying ClearCase in the
multi-platform LAN/WAN environment. Current NFS and LanMan-based
options and any known interoperation issues with ClearCase are reviewed.

A group’s build model principles can be a complex collection of scripts,
makefiles and tools. They can have a great impact on development. This session
discusses principles that can be applied to any build system and shows how these

CCM13 HTML Document Management Using ClearCase by Venkatesh Prasad, Cisco Systems
Using ClearCase MultiSite and a Cisco Router feature called Distributed Director,
our tools development group creates and maintains a website with thousands of
HTML documents, using one multi-sited VOB. We will describe the system and
how it includes fail-over to a remote site, which is synchronized and replicated
using MultiSite.

ASICs and FPGAs are increasingly complex — hundreds of files, dozens of

Cisco Systems' source code base evolved from a centralized CVS repository to
25+ multi-sited VOB replicas supporting 1000+ ClearCase licenses. This
environment retains the workflow of a single repository, while providing disaster
recovery and multi-sited development. We will detail the branching structure,
config specs, MultiSite wrappers, and custom tools used.

CCM17 Introduction to ClearQuest by Bryant Macy, Rational Software
This introductory session features a presentation and in-depth product
demonstration of ClearQuest, Rational's Windows- and Web-based defect
tracking/change request management system. Rational ClearQuest is used in both
small and large-scale projects for tracking and reporting on defects and other
types of change requests throughout the development lifecycle. Demonstration
includes integration with Rational Suite and Rational ClearCase, GUI
customization, drill-down reporting, and graphing options.

Using ClearCase, we successfully tracked the complete change history for a large,
dynamic Oracle ERP application development effort. Since database application
artifacts can be either part of product configuration or run-time artifacts, and
DBMS do not allow objects to be easily controlled by an external system, we
surmounted significant challenges.
