Sync Failures When Some Components Are Not Replicated

A defect in ClearCase 2002.05.00 can prevent PVOB replica synchronization if all of the following are true:

• The PVOB is at feature level 3.
• The PVOB contains any activities created at feature level 2.
• Those activities reference components that are not replicated at every site.

When all of these conditions are true, attempts to run syncreplica on the PVOB can generate error messages of the form:

Unable to find replica in registry for VOB with object ID:"<oid>
Unable to locate versioned object base with object id:"<oid>"
Unable to replay oplog entry <entry>:ClearCase object not found.

We recommend that all sites that use UCM with ClearCase and MultiSite 2002.05.00 and that meet the additional criteria detailed above take one of the following steps immediately:

• Defer raising PVOBs to feature level 3.
• Replicate all components referenced by any activities that were created at feature level 2 and are stored in a replicated PVOB.
