Rational Software has fixed the problem preventing ClearCase from running on HP-UX 11.0 systems. Installing patch clearcase_p3.2-30, together with the appropriate HP patch bundles, will now allow you to run ClearCase on both 32-bit and 64-bit HP-UX 11 systems.
Patch clearcase_p3.2-30 contains a fix for the following defect:
On some HP-UX 11.0 systems, any process accessing an MVFS filesystem would hang, typically when attempting to cd into a VOB directory. The processes were hung in the RPC handle initialization code. This hang was caused by an incorrectly initialized knetconfig data structure used by the MVFS. The code assumed a particular device number for UDP, which is not correct on all systems, depending on the hardware and driver configuration. The MVFS has been fixed to obtain the device major and minor numbers for UDP after the system is booted.
In order for ClearCase to run on the HP-UX 11 operating system, it requires patch PHNE_14620 from HP. PHNE_14620 contains a fix to XDR. Unfortunately, HP had a defective bundle of patches in June (see attached note from HP) which contained only a portion of the required fix from PHNE_14620. Thus, users who are running the June patch bundle from HP cannot use this ClearCase patch. Furthermore, if you have installed the June HP patch bundle, and then try to install a later [good] version of the fix for PHNE_14620, the later version doesn't install. The installation process detects the June bundle and assumes that there's a correct version installed and no update is needed.
In order to find out if you have the defective bundle, type
swlist
If the defective bundle is installed, the command displays the following:

To list individual patches, add the -l fileset option to swlist.
HP sent a letter describing the problem to HP-UX 11 customers. The letter is reproduced at the end of this bulletin, and we ask that you read it carefully. If you have the defective bundle installed you'll have to do the following in order to get ClearCase up and running on your HP-UX 11 system.
Note that patch clearcase_p3.2-30 is a mandatory patch. Therefore, it should be installed even if you were able to successfully run ClearCase 3.2 on an HP-UX 11 system. This is because the particular configuration that allowed you to do so could change in the future.

The next steps will return the
system back to a known state. Hewlett-Packard recommends the installation
of the HP-UX 11.00 Extension Pack 9806 bundle on the enclosed replacement
CD ROM part number B3782-10346.
There are three steps to take
for corrective action.
While other versions
of HP-UX are unaffected, it is strongly recommended that you discard the
HP-UX Extension Software CD-ROM media Part Number B3872-10320.
Discarding the defective CD-ROM ensures that no inadvertent future use
of the media for HP-UX 11.00 occurs.Locate or set up a SD
depot that contains the Core OS for HP-UX 11.00 and any desired patches,
or the location of the "HP-UX 11.00 Install and Core OS"
media.The following command
is used to remove the patch bundles and return the system to a known
state.swinstall -s
