This ftp directory contains the 2.2.1.9 OnDemand Client for OS/390. This file contains only a summary of the installation process. Please download and read the "IBM Content Manager OnDemand for OS/390 Client Installation Guide" for more complete installation information. Important Notes: ---------------- 1. The 2.2.1.9 OnDemand Client requires the following OnDemand Server Levels: Version 1: 1.1.8 or higher Version 2: 2.1 with APAR PQ40537 (PTF UQ47633) 2. The OnDemand Windows 16-bit client is no longer distributed. The 16-bit versions of Adobe software are no longer distributed. 3. The 2.2.1.9 32-bit client Setup.ini file now contains a new [S390] section which will automatically set the client to attach to the server in short sockets mode, and will automatically set up the OD/390 required command-line parameters. The 2.2.1.9 client fixes a problem installing 'short sockets' on an NT machine to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE with Setup.ini. The default setting is to install short sockets to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Please see the Install Guide (clnt2219.pdf) for more information. 4. The 2.2.1.9 OS/2 Client fixes a bug which caused a SYS0147 error when searching large object documents. This fix is included in the OS/2 Standard (local) Client (odos2loc.zip). There has been no change to the OS/2 Network (node) Client (odos2net.zip) since the 2.2.1.0 level. However, that file is included here for your convenience. This readme.txt file contains the following sections: A. Files in this ftp directory B. Process Overview C. Disk Space Requirements D. Client Installation E. Adobe Acrobat Exchange (for viewing PDF files) F. Installation CDROM Creation (to install the client from a cdrom) A. Process Overview ---------------- 1. Create an install source directory on the local pc or on a LAN File Server. This will be the source directory the client is installed FROM. If creating an install directory on a LAN Server, be sure to place each client zip file into it's own subdirectory. See the "Installation CDROM Creation" section in this readme.txt file for instructions on creating a source cdrom for installation. 2. Download the zip file (in binary mode) for the desired client into the install source subdirectory. 3. Unzip the zip file with either pkunzip or winzip. If using pkzip, unzip with the -d parameter to create the directory structure. Example: pkunzip odwin32.zip -d 4. Install FROM this directory INTO a destination directory on the pc. 5. After the installation, if the source directory and destination directories were on the same (local) pc, all source files, including the zip file may be deleted. 6. ******************** ** Very Important ** ******************** Several command line parameters MUST be added to insure that the OnDemand Client for OS/390 works properly. The Setup.ini file include with the 2.2.1.6 and later clients should automatically set this up for Windows 32-bit clients. The parameters are: /Q /O 1 /9 The command line for the 3 clients should look like this: OS/2 Parameters entry field: /1 C:\ARSOS2\LOCALE\ENU /Q /O 1 /9 Windows 95 and NT: C:\ARS32\ARSGUI32.EXE /1 C:\ARS32\LOCALE\ENU /Q /O 1 /9 Please see the Client Installation Guide for more information. C. Disk Space Requirements. ----------------------- If the source and the destination directories will be on one pc, you will need about 120 MB for the install process. After the client is installed, if the installation directory and zip file is deleted, the client will require about 30 MB for Windows 95 / NT. If installing from a LAN server to your pc, allow 30 MB for the client. Additional free disk space will be required for temporary files for each document being viewed by the client. You should allow the following space: 1. Zip files a. 20 MB for each local client b. 5 MB for each network client c. 20 MB for Adobe Acrobat Exchange 2. Install directory a. 60 MB for local clients (90 MB including the zip file) b. 10 MB for network client (15 MB including the zip file) c. 20 MB for Adobe Acrobat Exchange 3. Destination directory a. 30 MB for a local client b. 5 MB for a network client b. 12 MB for Adobe Acrobat Exchange D. Client Installation ------------------- Run "Setup" (Windows) or "Install" (OS/2) from the source directory. ** Please follow the install procedure in the Client Installation Guide. E. Adobe Acrobat Exchange (for viewing PDF files) Windows clients only ------------------------------------------------------------------- The installation program for Adobe Acrobat Exchange can be found in the Adobe directory. It is a separate installation from the OnDemand Client. If you will be using Adobe Acrobat Exchange, install Adobe before installing the OnDemand Client. This way, the arspdf32.api file (32 bit Windows) will get installed from the OnDemand \ars32\pdf directory into the \Acrobat3\Exchange\plug_ins directory. If you have already installed the OnDemand Client Client, install Adobe Acrobat Exchange from the Adobe directory. Then copy the arspdf32.api file (32 bit Windows) from the OnDemand \ars32\pdf directory into the \Acrobat3\Exchange\plug_ins directory. If you have installed a later version of Adobe Acrobat Exchange than 3.0 (the version included with OnDemand), you must make sure the plug_ins have been installed in order for OnDemand to place the file in that directory. Otherwise, pdf viewing will not be enabled. F. Installation CDROM Creation (to install the client from a cdrom) ---------------------------------------------------------------- You may want to create your own "Installation cdrom" with one or more of the OnDemand Clients. This would allow you to install the client to a pc from the cdrom. Simply unzip each of the desired Clients in its own directory, including Adobe Acrobat Exchange if pdf files will be viewed. Be sure to use the -d parameter as described above. Then burn a cdrom of all "install directories" that you unzipped. You can then run "setup" or "install" to install the desired client from the install directory that you created on the cdrom.
