Net.Data replaces DB2 WWW Connection. If you are still using DB2 WWW Connection, and you want to migrate to Net.Data, see "Migrating from DB2 WWW Connection to Net.Data".
Net.Data is an upwardly-compatible, follow-on version of DB2 WWW Connection, building on the strong database access and reporting capabilities of DB2 WWW Connection. Its functionality has been enhanced greatly to become a comprehensive Web development environment for the creation of simple dynamic Web pages or complex Web-based applications.
Net.Data is shipped at no charge on the following versions of the OS/400 operating system:
The V3R2 release of the OS/400 operating system shipped with DB2 WWW Connection Version 1. A PTF for V3R2 is available that will enable Net.Data.
One of the key highlights of V3R2 and V3R7 is the introduction of Internet Connection for AS/400; which transforms the AS/400 into a Web server. This Internet Connection support provides many new features designed to allow easy Web access to data and applications on the AS/400, and Net.Data is one of the new Internet Connection for AS/400 features.
Internet Connection for AS/400, which includes Net.Data, is a standard part of the OS/400 V3R7 TCP/IP software. (OS/400 V3R2 users must get a PTF to install Net.Data.) There is nothing extra to buy; and there is no Net.Data software that you need to download and install.
The AS/400 TCP/IP software that you need comes standard with OS/400, but is optionally installed. The following software should be installed on your system:
