In the Data Project Explorer, you can work locally with data objects.
The Data Project Explorer displays the following projects:
- Data
design projects
Data design projects are used for database design and information
integration. Use this type of project to develop physical data models,
logical data models,
domain models, glossary
models, XSD
models, and scripts.
- Physical
data models can be used to generate DDL statements that can be deployed to
a database server.
- Logical
data models are not specific to a database that describes things about which
an organization wants to collect data, and the relationships among these things.
You can generate physical data models or UML models from logical data models.
- Domain
models describe an organization's allowed atomic domain types and their constraints.
You can specify atomic domains as data types for physical and
logical data models. Atomic
domains can also be specified as an integrated part of a logical data model.
- Glossary
models are used to validate a data model for naming standard compliance, or
to determine naming conventions.
- Data
development projects
Data development projects are used for database application
development. This type of project is associated with a single connection in
the Database Explorer. Use data development projects to develop the following
resources:
- You can develop, test, and deploy SQL and Java store stored procedures
and user-defined functions.
- If the target server supports XML, you can develop XML files and artifacts
for XML applications.
- You can also develop and test SQL queries.
- You can
develop and deploy Web services that access data by using SQL scripts or stored
procedures
- DB2® Change Management
projects, which are containers for storing the resources that you will use
to plan, analyze, archive, and make changes to your databases. The resources
that you will use to make database changes include models and scripts.
Using the Data Project Explorer, you can also:
- Analyze
the impact and dependency of data objects
- Analyze
a data model to ensure model integrity
- Compare two data
objects
- Generate DDL for data
objects or data models
- Drag and drop
or copy database objects from the Database Explorer or from within the Data
Project Explorer
- Share projects using a source control system.
