How to download and install this Corrective Service There are 2 files, one for updating the OS/2 server and one for updating the OS/2 client: The file for updating the server and/or the client if it was installed from the server CD-ROM is: U200090S.zip The file for updating the OS/2 client if it was installed from the client CD-ROM or if it was downloaded from the web is: U200090C.zip Unzip the U200090S.zip or U200090C.zip file into a temporary directory on your hard drive, ensuring that you preserve the directory structure when you do so (PKUNZIP with the -d option, as an example). Point the MQSeries Installation and Maintenance tool at this temp directory. This temporary directory includes soft-copy installation instructions to help you install this PTF. There is a MEMO.PTF file for each National Language version in the appropriate National Language directory within the README directory that contains these instructions. You are advised to read this file which contains: o SPECIAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for this PTF to delete the product backup files before trying to do the installation. If your current service level is U200069 and you created backup files when you applied PTF U200069 then you must delete these backup files before trying to apply this PTF, otherwise you will get an installation error with error message EPFIE132. o installation instructions for applying maintenance o a summary of the current and superseded service levels o Special Information which may be mandatory for complete resolution of one or more of the APAR fixes shipped by this PTF. This PTF is applicable to ALL releases of product 5639-B42-00, IBM MQSeries for OS/2 version 5.0, namely the English version or any of the National Language versions. If after applying this PTF, you experience problems - please contact the IBM Support Center (ISC) at 1-800-237-5511 or an authorized IBM Personal Computer dealer, whichever is applicable. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE INFORMATION ---------------------------------------- A) Applying Maintenance -------------------- ** Precaution ************************************************** * * * Do not have queue managers running while you are applying * * or removing maintenance updates to MQSeries for OS/2. * * * * Do not have channel listeners running while you are * * applying or removing maintenance updates to MQSeries for * * OS/2. * * * **************************************************************** * * * Note: If your current service level is PTF U200069 then * * ---- read this information before trying to install this * * CSD for MQSeries for OS/2 V5.0. This information * * does not apply unless your current service level * * is PTF U200069. * * * * If you have previously installed the first CSD and you * * saved a backup version of your installation at that time as * * recommended, then you should delete the backup files before * * trying to install this CSD. This CSD contains maintenance * * for the MQSeries Installation and Maintenance program, * * including a problem concerning backup files. To delete the * * backup files, you should do the following: * * * * 1. Open the MQSeries folder and double-click on the * * MQSeries Installation and Maintenance icon. * * * * 2. Click on the 'Action' choice on the menu bar. * * * * 3. Click on 'Delete' to display the Delete window. * * * * 4. Select the components for which you need to delete * * the backup versions. * * * * 5. Make sure that the option to "Delete only the backup * * versions" is selected. * * * * 6. Click on 'Delete' to delete the backup versions. * * * * 7. Now you can install this CSD in the normal way. It is * * recommended that you save a backup version of your * * installation when you apply this CSD. You do this by * * ensuring that the 'save backup version' option is * * selected. * * * **************************************************************** * * * Note: Read this information if your current service level * * ---- is PTF U200069 and you have tried to install this * * CSD for MQSeries for OS/2 V5.0 without first * * deleting any backup files that were created when you * * installed the first CSD (corresponding to PTF * * U200069). Trying to install this CSD with existing * * backup files will fail and terminate with error * * message EPFIE132. * * * * The installation of this CSD will fail if ALL the following * * conditions apply: * * * * (a) you have previously installed the first CSD * * (corresponding to PTF U200069) * * (b) you have not previously installed the second CSD * * (corresponding to PTF U200072) * * (c) you saved a backup version of your installation as * * recommended when you installed the first CSD * * (d) you have tried to install this CSD before deleting * * the backup files as described in the instructions * * in the previous note. * * * * If you have tried to install this CSD with existing backup * * files that were created when you installed the first CSD, * * then you should expect to see the following error message: * * * * EPFIE132: An error occurred while attempting to * * create the \MQM\AMQIPKG2.$BK directory * * * * When you click on 'Cancel', you then get this message: * * * * EPFIQ173: You have cancelled during an update. * * Your current version of the product will * * not work properly. Would you like to * * restore the previous service level. * * * * When you click on 'Yes' at this point, the restore will not * * work correctly and it will leave the product in an * * "unknown state". You will therefore need to repeat the * * restore operation to put the product into a "known state". * * You should be aware however that repeating the restore * * operation will result in the removal of both this CSD and * * the first CSD since, when the failure occurs, the backup * * files for restoring the first CSD are located in temporary * * work directories and this makes them unavailable for the * * restore. After the restore, the product will be left as if * * you had installed the original product and applied no * * maintenance. * * * * To make a successful restore, you should do the following: * * * * 1. You must stop the current MQSeries Installation and * * Maintenance session and restart a new session. You * * should do this by closing the MQSeries Installation * * and Maintenance window. * * * * 2. Restart the MQSeries Installation and Maintenance * * session by double-clicking on the MQSeries * * Installation and Maintenance icon. * * * * 3. Click on the 'Action' choice on the menu bar. * * * * 4. Click on 'Restore' to display the Restore window. * * * * 5. Click on 'Restore' to restore all backup files over * * the current product level. * * * * 6. Once the restore has been completed successfully, you * * can install this CSD. * * * * 7. If you save a backup version when installing the CSD, * * then you will save the original product level code and * * not the code from the first CSD. If you want to save * * the first CSD code level then you will need to install * * the first CSD before installing this CSD. If you * * choose to do this, then DO NOT SAVE a backup version * * when installing the first CSD. * * * **************************************************************** This PTF requires approximately 25MB of disk space to save the previous level. This allows a PTF to be removed, and the previous level automatically restored. If you need to apply maintenance updates to your MQSeries product: 1. Ensure all Queue Managers are stopped. 2. Ensure all Channel Listeners are stopped. 3. Insert the maintenance CD-ROM, or connect to the required network drive containing the MQSeries for OS/2 maintenance. 4. Open the MQSeries folder and double-click on the MQSeries Installation and Maintenance icon. 5. Click on 'File'. 6. Select 'Open catalog', and from the sub-menu displayed select 'Drive'. 7. Select the temporary directory containing the MQSeries for OS/2 maintenance from the Drive pulldown. 8. Click on 'Search', and a 'Directory' list will be displayed. 9. If you are applying maintenance to a server installation, or to a client that was installed from the server product, then select and open (eg: mouse select, followed by mouse double-click) the corresponding language directory. Next, select 'AMQICAT2.ICF' from the 'File' list and click on 'OK'. If you are applying maintenance to a client installation then select and open (eg: mouse select, followed by mouse double-click) the 'CLIENT' directory from the 'Directory' list. Then select the corresponding language directory. Next, select 'AMQICCL2.ICF' from the 'File' list and click on 'OK'. If you select the client catalog file when MQSeries for OS/2 was installed from the server product, or you select the server catalog file when the client was installed from the client CD or downloaded from the World Wide Web then you should expect to see a response beginning with the following: No products are currently available for installation. If so, confirm that you have selected the correct catalog file. 10. You will return to the 'Open drive catalog' window, with the selected catalog file displayed in the 'Filename' list. You may verify your selection by clicking on 'Description'. 11. When you have selected the catalog file which corresponds to the product you have installed, click on 'Open' to open the catalog file. 12. Click on the 'View' choice on the menu bar, and then select 'Current catalogue'; the window should display: 05.00.00 IBM MQSeries for OS/2 13. Click on the 'Details' choice on the menu bar, and then select 'Product description'. This should query the product information from files on the CD-ROM drive or the network drive, and display the product description for 'IBM MQSeries for OS/2'. If this fails, then check that you have selected the correct catalog file in step 7. 14. If you are updating one of the National Language Versions (NLV) of MQSeries for OS/2, then check that the product description displayed in step 11 has been translated into the appropriate language. If not, then make sure that you have selected the correct catalog file that corresponds to the product you have installed (refer to step 7). 15. Click on the 'Action' choice on the menu bar. 16. Click on 'Update' to display the Update window. 17. It is recommended that you save a backup version of your installation when you apply this CSD. You do this by ensuring that the 'save backup version' option is selected. 18. Click on 'Update' in the Update window. 19. During update, a status bar is displayed. On completion, follow the instructions given in the message windows. In particular, if it says to reboot your system then you must do this before continuing with any further use or maintenance of IBM MQSeries for OS/2. B) Restoring the Previous Backup Version ------------------------------------- If you need to restore from backup, to the previous level of maintenance: 1. Ensure all Queue Managers are stopped. 2. Ensure all Channel Listeners are stopped. 3. Open the MQSeries folder and double-click on the MQSeries Installation and Maintenance icon. 4. Click on the 'Action' choice on the menu bar. 5. Click on 'Restore' to display the Restore window. 6. Click on 'Restore' in the Restore window. 7. During restore, a status bar is displayed. On completion, follow the instructions given in the message windows. In particular, if it says to reboot your system then you must do this before continuing with any further use or maintenance of IBM MQSeries for OS/2. Notes: 1. The Restore action is only applicable if, when using the Update action, the option to save a backup copy was selected. 2. The MQSeries folder will be closed and reinitialized. This means that all folder settings will be reset to their default values. 3. All files at the current maintenance level will be overwritten, without requiring confirmation by the user, with corresponding files saved from the previous maintenance level. C) Querying the Service Level -------------------------- After initial installation, service level has the value '0000500'. After one or more updates, service level indicates from which CSD the product was most recently updated. Service level is expressed in terms of the PTF number for a particular CSD. To query the service level: 1. Open the MQSeries folder and double-click on the MQSeries Installation and Maintenance icon. 2. If the current product selected is not IBM MQSeries for OS/2 V5.0 then click on the 'View' choice on the menu bar, and then select 'Installed products'. Now select IBM MQSeries for OS/2 V5.0. 3. Click on Details choice on the menu bar. 4. Click on Product status to display the Product status window. 5. Select one of the currently installed components, and click on Service level to display the Service level window. For the selected component this will show details of Install date, Origin (source from which MQSeries was installed), and Level.
