TITLE: Setting HP Emulation For the IBM Laser Printer
PRODUCT: 123 3.0
DATE: 6-Apr-1990

PROBLEM:

The IBM 4019 Laser Printer has the ability to emulate the HP Laserjet
Series II. When a print test is performed, the IBM Laser Printer appears
to be in HP mode, i.e., the words "HP Series II" appear on the printed
test page. However, printing from 123 3.0 using the HP Laserjet Series II
No Cartridge driver results in the setup strings sent by the driver being
placed at the top and bottom of each page.

When the Generic driver is used, any setup strings sent appear as text at
the top of the page, and do not affect printed output.

SOLUTION:

Perform a print test and check the Data Stream number on the printer.
This number is set to 1 when the printer is in its native (IBM) mode, and
set to 2 when the printer is in true HP Laserjet Series II emulation. If
the print test indicates that the Data Stream is set to 1, turn the
printer off and turn it back on while holding down the Font button. The
Data Stream will be reset to 2. The IBM Laser Printer will now respond
properly to the HP Laserjet Series II No Cartridge driver in 123 3.0, or
to any setup strings used in conjunction with the Generic print driver.

To reset the printer to IBM mode, turn the printer off and turn it back on
while holding down the Paper button.
