What's New in Release 8.3?
==========================

. You can use CCCPSO to change the sort order and code page for
a post office in your cc:Mail post office system.

. You can use Reclaim /FBBR, so that all bulletin board messages and
directory updates appear as read--rather than unread.

. New Lotus Customer Support information.

About Release 8.3 Administrative Utilities
==========================================

Using CCCPSO
------------
By using the utility CCCPSO, you can change the sort order and code
page number for a post office in your cc:Mail post office system;
however, you cannot change non-Latin code page numbers to Latin
code page numbers.

The non-Latin languages are:

. Chinese
. Japanese
. Korean
. Taiwanese
. Cyrillic (Bulgarian, Byelorussian, Macedonian, Russian, Serbian,
  and Ukranian)
. Greek
. Hebrew
. Arabic

For example, you can change the sort order and code page for a
post office that has a code page number 437 (American English)
to 936 (Chinese); however, you cannot change the code page
number for a post office from 936 (Chinese) to 437 (American English).

NOTE: BEfore running CCCPSO on your computer, make sure that you set
the code page to the target post office that you want to change to.

For example, if you want to change the code page from 437 (American
English) to 936 (Chinese), make sure that you set the system code page
on your computer to 936 (Chinese).

CAUTION: Double-byte post offices are only supported for CCCPSO32.EXE.

See "How do I change the language of a post office," "What code
pages are supported in this release?" and "What language sort orders
are supported in this release" in "Lotus cc:Mail 8.2 Administrative
Release Notes."

Using Reclaim /FBBR
-------------------
After you run CCRSTR/M to rebuild post office files, all bulletin board
messages are reset to unread. Therefore, these bulletin board messages are
repropagated by ADE.

To prevent ADE from repropogating bulletin board messages, run RECLAIM
with the following command line syntax:

RECL32/N postofficename /P postofficepassword /D postofficepath
/SF /ST /FBBR

Now, all bulletin board messages and directory updates are not
repropagated and appear as read.

What's New in Release 8.2?
==========================

Refer to "Lotus cc:Mail Release 8.2 Administrative Release Notes"
for a list of new features.

Known Problems and Workarounds
==============================

Post Offices Larger than 2GB
----------------------------
Macintosh and OS/2 applications can only access post offices that
are 2GB or smaller. DOS and Windows (16 & 32) applications can access
post offices that are 4GB or smaller.

Mailing Lists
-------------
Do not use Admin to add users to a remote public mailing list.

Bulletin Boards
---------------
Do not use DOS or OS/2 Admin to administer subscription bulletin boards.
Instead, use the cc:Mail Release 8.1 or later release client, or use
cc:Mail Release 8.2 Admin.

Code Pages
----------
. When you run a parameter file on a platform other than the one
in which it was created, the code page of a parameter file
changes. Parameter files using Extended ASCII characters might
not work correctly on all platforms because each code page uses
a different ordinal value for its characters.

. In Windows NT, a parameter file that you create with
a DOS editor uses the (OEM) code page, which is
usually 437 (US English) or 850 (International English).
When you run a parameter file with a Windows 32-bit
application, such as MSGMGR32, the application uses
   the ANSI code page 1252.

Release 8.2 Admin (Windows)
===========================

Limiting Message File Size
--------------------------
To use the new limit message size feature in Admin, you must use
the cc:Mail clients and gateways provided on the Lotus cc:Mail
Release 8.2 CD-ROM.

Creating Post Offices
---------------------
. After creating a new post office, you must create a cc:Mail
administrator before you perform other administrative tasks
on the cc:Mail Directory. A problem occurs when you perform
   these tasks:

   1) Create a new post office.
   2) Import a cc:Mail Directory by using Import/Export.
   3) Exit from Admin without creating the cc:Mail Administrator.

Later, if you try to create the cc:Mail administrator, you
get an error and can't specify an administrator.

. Make sure that the post office name and password include
only 7-bit ASCII characters. The utilities will not run if
the post office name and password include characters other
   than 7-bit ASCII characters.

Mail Directory
--------------
If you specify an entry that is not a post office as the
address of another post office, cc:Mail Admin creates a
mailbox for the new post office.

Post Office Statistics
----------------------
The Free Message bytes and Message bytes values are about one and a
half percent less than what cc:Mail Release 6 and earlier releases
of Admin report. This difference is because cc:Mail Release 8 Admin
counts the bytes only in the messages, whereas cc:Mail Release 6
and earlier releases count the bytes in the message header and
the messages. The way Admin counts message bytes does not affect
functionality in any way.

Admin Window
------------
When Admin is performing a task for long time, the Admin window
refreshes only after the task is done.

Subscription Bulletin Boards
----------------------------
. In cc:Mail Release 8.2 Admin, you can add post offices to a
subscribers' list for a subscription bulletin board. In terms
of propagation, the subscribers' list is also the propagation
   list for bulletin boards.

When an administrator propagates the subscribers' list to other
post offices, the administrator at the receiving post office can
add more post offices to the list; however, this isn't recommended.

. In previous releases, you could not create two bulletin boards with
the same name. In cc:Mail Release 8.2 Admin, you won't get an error
if you create a subscription bulletin board and a communal bulletin
board with the same name. However, Admin does not accept the duplicate
name; the cursor remains in the name field until you provide a
   unique name.

Version Control
---------------
Once you restrict or support a specific version of an application, you
cannot edit it. To change the supported/restricted status of an
application, you must delete it first and then add it back.

Release 8.2 Administrative Utilities
====================================

. In Release 8 and later releases, all the administrative
utilities have platform-specific names (for example, ANALYZE
for DOS 16-bit and ANALY32 for Windows 32-bit). See "Lotus cc:Mail
Release 8.1 Administrator's Guide" for the correct utility names.

NOTE This readme file uses the DOS 16-bit file names for examples.

. CCSAVE and CCCPSO now require the /TARGET path parameter
   on the command line.

. To increase the processing speed of the 32-bit utilities,
run them with the /MIN parameter. This parameter minimizes
   the child window.

. For DOS compatibility, the 32-bit utilities do not support long
file names. When running the 32-bit utilities from a directory
that contains spaces in the name, you might see an incorrect error
message. In these cases, use the short name format on the command
   line.

   For example, instead of typing:

       c:\AA AA\analy32.exe /d popath

   Type:

       c:\AAAA~1\analy32.exe /d popath

. When specifying names or bulletin board names that contain
blank spaces, forward slashes (/), or hyphens (-), enclose the
names in quotation marks. For DOS users, the quotes must be preceded
by a backward slash (\). You can avoid the need for the backward
slashes by putting the parameters in a parameter file.

   For example:

       MSGMGR /n xxx /p xxx /d xxx /bb \"bboard-1\" /log xxx

. The utilities do not recognize more than one consecutive
space in user names, mailing list titles, or bulletin
board titles. For example, the utilities interpret
"#For Sale" with multiple spaces as "#For Sale" with a
single space. If you have an entry in the Directory that
uses consecutive spaces, the utilities cannot find the entry
and return the following error message:
     "Entry not found."
Therefore, do not use consecutive spaces for bulletin board
and mailing list titles in the Directory.

. If you are running ADMIN or the administrative utilities
on a computer that uses Windows NT, make sure that the
DOS-PATH variable contains fewer than 300 characters.

. Windows 3.1 does not provide correct information about
whether or not Share is installed. Therefore, when you
run the DOS version of the administrative utilities
in a DOS window under Windows 3.1, make sure that Share is
installed. If Share is not installed, the utilities will
   not run.

. If Share is not installed and you use the universal naming convention
(UNC) to specify the path when you run the DOS administrative
utilities, you'll get an error message. To resolve the problem, either
specify the drive and directory for the post office or
install Share and then run the utility.

. If your computer goes into power-saver mode when you
run the administrative utilities, they may not resume
when the computer "wakes up." To force the utilities to
resume, open the window where you ran the command lines
and maximize it to make it the active window. If that
does not resume the utilities, type a few characters in
   that window.

New Resource File
-----------------
In Release 8.1, all the administrative utilities used the ATOOLS.RI
resource file. In Release 8.11 and later releases, CCSAVE, CCRSTR,
RECLAIM, and ANALYZE now use the DBTOOLS.RI resource file; the other
utilities still use ATOOLS.RI. This change was made so that Lotus cc:Mail
can update the administrative utilities separately.

When you install Release 8.11 or later releases, both resource files
are installed with the administrative utilities; no action is necessary
on your part.

Parameter File
--------------
The size of the parameter file, excluding the comments, for the
Windows NT and Windows 95 administrative utilities can be up
to 32 kilobytes. For the DOS and OS/2 utilities, the size
of the parameter file, excluding the comments, can be up to
512 bytes.

Automatic Maintenance
---------------------
Before you use automatic maintenance, make sure you have enough disk
space to back up your post office. You need approximately 1.7
times the disk space used by your post office to run automatic
maintenance.

Command Line
------------
. If you enter the same user name twice in a command line and use
different case, the names are not recognized as duplicates.
However, the user account is locked (you can't log in to the
  same account twice).

. International characters are not recognized if you use the "First
Name Last Name" format on the command line. Therefore, if you have
international characters in Directory entries, use the Last Name,
First Name format on the command line.

Checking for Free Disk Space
----------------------------
. Make sure that the file server has at least 10 kilobytes
free disk space for each new user that you add to the post
   office.

. When you run CCSAVE or RECLAIM, if there is not enough space
to save the new files, you see this message: "Running out of
disk space. Press the ESC key to end." If you press the ESC
key, your post office will not be corrupted; however, the
utilities will not successfully complete the process.

NOTE Windows 95 does not always provide correct information
about the free disk space available; therefore, you don't
see a warning message when you run RECLAIM or CCSAVE in
Windows 95.

ANALYZE
-------
. When you run ANALYZE on a post office Directory store file (CCPODS),
ANALYZE reports all database records checked. There are usually two
or more database records for each Directory entry in a post office
Directory store. These records are used to track different types of
information for each Directory entry. ANALYZE and RECLAIM check all
database records, so the number of records checked is expected to be
greater than the number of Directory entries in the post office.

. When you run ANALYZE on only one post office file, such
as /MI, ANALYZE performs a page cyclic redundancy check
(CRC) before performing other checks. ANALYZE continues
to check the post office, even when it finds CRC errors, and
might cause unpredictable errors, such as looping.
In earlier releases, ANALYZE ended when it detected a CRC error.

. You no longer need to use the /OFFPEAK (/OPK) parameter when
running ANALYZE. ANALYZE runs the parameter automatically.
Specifying the /OPK parameter does not cause an error.

CCSAVE
------
. The copy of the post office that is saved when you run
CCSAVE does not include any changes made to the post office
CCSAVE began copying it; therefore, any changes made
to the post office or messages sent to the post office
while it is being saved are not backed up until you run
  CCSAVE again.

. CCSAVE now requires the /TARGET parameter.

RECLAIM
-------
. If you run RECLAIM under Windows NT 3.51, use the Microsoft
client for Novell networks with the broadcast message turned
on instead of the Novell client. If you use the Microsoft
client with the broadcast message turned off, it can corrupt
your post office. If you use the Novell client under Windows
NT 3.51, RECLAIM might not run successfully.

NOTE cc:Mail Release 8.2 and later releases are not certified
or supported on Windows NT 3.51.

. When you use special algorithm parameters with RECLAIM, such as
/MN and /CUF, RECLAIM only performs the tasks associated
with those parameters. If you want RECLAIM to perform a standard
reclaim in addition to using special algorithm parameters, you
  must include the /ST parameter.

. Do not use the /MBS parameter with other optional RECLAIM
  parameters. The recommended syntax is:

    RECLAIM /N name /P password /D path /MBS

. The /CUF parameter now deletes unused mailbox (user) files.

. In cc:Mail Release 8.11, the /PATCH parameter was added to
RECLAIM so that Lotus could supply patches to reconcile known
problems. cc:Mail Release 8.2 includes two patches. You need
to run these patches only once, and only if you see the symptoms
described here in your post office.

  Patch 1:
If cc:Mail Mobile Release 8.x creates duplicate messages during
mailbox synchronization, and CCRSTR with /M was previously run
on the post office, run RECLAIM 8.2 or later with the /PATCH 1
  parameter:

     RECLAIM /N name /P password /D path /DI /PATCH 1 /LOG logfile

  Patch 2:
If EXPORT /MAILBOX reports "Message cannot be read" and ends with
error 5, and CCRSTR with /M was previously run on the post office,
run RECLAIM 8.2 or later with the /PATCH 2 parameter:

     RECLAIM /N name /P password /D path /DI /MI /PATCH 2 /LOG logfile

MSGMGR
------
. MSGMGR reports statistics only about entries that have a
mailbox on the current post office.

. MSGMGR does not report statistics on folders that are hidden.
Therefore, in the message statistics report, you might see an
inconsistency between the number of messages that appear
in the table at the top of the report and the number
of messages that appear in the summary that follows the table.

. When using the /STOREDATE (/DT) parameter with MSGMGR,
you must enter the date in yyyymmdd or yymmdd format.
Leading zeros are required. For example, enter January 1, 2000 as
  000101 or 20000101. For two-digit years (yymmdd),
the format follows the year 2000 specification of interpretation
of the century, which is platform-specific. Do not separate
the day, month, and year with slashes or hyphens.

CCRSTR
------
. If you want to run CCRSTR on a file that is not the latest
version of that file, you must remove all other copies
of that file from the post office directory.

. Do not use /M unless you have determined that you cannot
fix CCPOMI using CCRSTR with /RF.

Do not specify /M when CCPOMS or any of the user files are
corrupted. Specifying /M rebuilds the message index (CCPOMI)
from information contained in the message store and the user
  files.

If you run CCRSTR with the /M parameter, you must immediately
run RECLAIM with the following command line while the post office
  is still shut down:

     RECLAIM /N name /P pw /D path /DI /ST /SF /LOG pathlogfile.ext
     /IC

This command line runs a full reclaim on the closed post
office and adds the "Shared Folder" (/SF) functionality.
The "Shared Folder" reclaim task reconciles bulletin board
  counters if necessary.

. Do not use CCRSTR releases prior to Release 8.2.00.17. The
CCVER.TB file on the Lotus cc:Mail Release 8.2 CD has been
updated to lock out earlier versions of CCRSTR. See the
  README.VER file for more information.

. With CCRSTR Release 8.11, sometimes you couldn't repair a post
office that had damage to both a user file and the CCPOMI file.
This problem is resolved in CCRSTR Release 8.2.

. You can now use CCRSTR to restore a user file on a live post office.

. When you restore a mailbox file from backup, all messages are now
  recovered.

DIRSTAT
-------
There is a new command line parameter for DIRSTAT:

   /INETADDRESS (the abbreviation is /IA)

This parameter allows DIRSTAT to display the Internet
Address field stored in the Directory.

PCONVERT
--------
After running PCONVERT to upgrade the post office, run RECLAIM
with the following parameters:

   RECLAIM /N name /P pw /D path /DI /ST /SF /LOG pathlogfile.ext

This command line runs a full reclaim on the post office and
adds the "Shared Folder" (/SF) functionality. The "Shared
Folder" reclaim task reconciles bulletin board counters if
necessary.

MAINT.BAT
---------
When running the 32-bit utilities with batch files on
Windows 95, use the START /W parameter to avoid
running all the utilities simultaneously. For example, type
the following syntax on the command line:

   START /W ANALY32 /N %1 /P %2/d %3 /LOG 24x7.log /TS /DI /BA

Release 8.01 ADMIN (DOS & OS/2)
===============================

ADMIN
-----
Admin 6.01 and later releases correctly maintain the
mailbox file when you change a user from L (local) to
A (alias) and then back to Local. Earlier releases
deleted the original mailbox when you made such changes.

ADMIN2
------
Unlike the English version, other language versions of
OS/2 do not automatically add a period and a semicolon
(.;) at the beginning of the LIBPATH file. Therefore, before
you start ADMIN2 and use language versions other than
English, insert .; at the beginning of the LIBPATH file.

Directory Propagation
---------------------
. To change a propagation type for a post office from
Default to None, first change the type to a type other
than None or Default; then, change the type to None.
Otherwise, the propagation type will not change.

. When you add a post office to the Directory, you must
manually assign the propagation type in order for it to
appear in the Directory Updates propagation list.

Directory Entries
-----------------
. In Release 6.01 and later releases, any part of a corrupted
Directory entry (such as the name, address, location, or
comments) appears as ****ERR**** so that you
can correct the problem. In earlier releases, ADMIN ended
   with a record-not-found error.

. If the user file of a Directory entry is missing, a message
tells you that the user file is missing. ADMIN allows
you to either keep the entry, so that you can recover the
user file, or delete the entry.

. The Directory sort order in Release 6 and later releases
is different from the sort order in earlier releases.
Directory entries starting with a hyphen (-) now sort in
the normal alphabetical order; entries starting with other
characters, such as a forward slash (/) or an underscore (_),
still sort at the end of each alphabetical section.

Interrupting ADMIN
------------------
Do not press CTRL-BREAK while running ADMIN. If you do,
ADMIN exits with a GPF error, and you must restart your computer.

Troubleshooting
===============

. The messages for command-line errors are sometimes
ambiguous. If a utility does not run, verify that you entered
  the command line correctly.

. To resolve errors in your post office, follow the instructions
for the exit status numbers that the utilities return. Any other
error numbers or messages that you see are for the use of Lotus
  cc:Mail Support Services.

NOTE Many of these errors are also documented on the cc:Mail Web
site www.ccmail.com. Go to the Support page and search for the
  error number in the KnowledgeBase.
