About the Euro
==============

As of January 1, 1999, the Euro becomes the single currency used by
the European Union. For more information about the Euro, see the
official Euro website at http://europa.eu.int/euro/ created by the
European Commission. For information about Lotus and IBM support of
the Euro, see the Lotus Web site at:

   http://www.lotus.com/home.nsf/tabs/euro

You must configure your operating systems to support the Euro
currency character before you configure your cc:Mail applications.

Microsoft plans to include support for the Euro currency character
in Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows NT 5.0, and also
provides an update patch for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. For more
information, see the Microsoft Web site at:

   http://www.microsoft.com/windows/euro.asp

Lotus cc:Mail Euro Support
==========================

The revised codepage table (CCINTL.TB) included in this release
provides limited support for using the Euro currency character
only in cc:Mail Release 8 post offices.

NOTE cc:Mail Release 6 and earlier post offices do not currently
support the Euro character.

Currently, the Euro character is only supported in the Subject line
and message body of cc:Mail messages. The Euro character is not
supported in cc:Mail post office names, Directory entries, mailing
list names, bulletin board names, folder names, or archive names.

Additional support for using the Euro character in cc:Mail is
planned for the next major release of cc:Mail.

Current Euro-ready cc:Mail Applications
=======================================

The Euro currency character is only supported in the Subject
line and message body of cc:Mail for Windows Release 8.2 or higher
(the 32-bit LAN/Mobile mail client).

cc:Mail Router recognizes and preserves the Euro character when it
transmits messages between two Euro-ready post offices.

cc:Mail Import/Export, Release 8.2 or higher, also supports the Euro
character in the Subject line and message body when you use the
CODEPAGE parameter.

The Euro character is also supported for cc:Mail-to-Lotus Notes
messaging, when the supported cc:Mail Windows clients are used with
cc:Mail MTA Release 4.6.3 or higher, and Lotus Notes Release 4.6.1a
or higher.

Making your Operating Systems Euro-ready
========================================

You must update the operating system's codepage and font set to include
the Euro currency character before your cc:Mail applications can use
it. Support for the Euro character is automatically included on
computers using Windows 98.

See the Microsoft Web site for the Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
update patch. You must update all computers using Windows 95 and all
workstations or servers using Windows NT that run applications that
use the Euro character.

Microsoft support for the Euro currency character is only included in
some character sets or fonts in the ANSI codepages (for example, 1250
and 1252).

To find a character set that supports the Euro currency character,
follow these steps after applying the Euro update on a computer using
Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0:

1. Click Start and then click Programs.

2. Click Accessories and then click Character Map.

The location of the Euro currency character is 0128. Two fonts that
support the Euro currency character include Arial and Courier New.

Printing the Euro currency character
------------------------------------
Printing the Euro currency character depends on the capabilities of
your printer and the printer configuration used in your operating
system.

For example, when using Windows 95, you may need to set the Font tab
in Printer properties to use the Euro currency character. To set
Printer properties, follow these steps:

1. Click Start and then click Settings.

2. Click Printers.

3. Select a printer.

4. Click File and then click Properties.

5. On the Fonts tab, click "Send TrueType fonts to printer according
   to the font Substitution Table."

6. Click OK.

You may still need to verify that your printer and drivers are
configured to successfully print the Euro currency character. For
example, to test print the Euro currency character, follow these
steps:

1. Click Start and then click Programs.

2. Click Accessories and then click WordPad.

3. Create a test document.

4. Select a font to use in the test document that supports the
Euro currency character; for example, Arial.

5. Type the Euro character in the test document.

NOTE In English, type the Alt+0128 key combination.

6. Print the document.

Making your Post Offices Euro-ready
===================================

You must copy the Euro-ready version of the codepage table file,
CCINTL.TB (dated 9/11/98), into the cc:Mail post office directory
for every cc:Mail post office that you want to be Euro-ready.

NOTE Because most cc:Mail applications keep the CCINTL.TB file open
when running, you need to shut down the post office to replace the
CCINTL.TB file.

Making your cc:Mail Applications Euro-ready
===========================================

cc:Mail for Windows
-------------------
To make cc:Mail for Windows Release 8.2 or higher clients Euro-ready,
follow these steps:

1. In cc:Mail, click File and then click Tools.

2. Click User Preferences and then click Fonts.

3. Choose Mailbox from the drop-down list.

4. Click Change.

Verify that the selected font is one that supports the Euro
currency character; for example, Arial or Courier New.

5. Choose Message Text from the drop-down list.

6. Click Change.

Verify that the selected font is one that supports the Euro
currency character; for example, Arial or Courier New.

7. Click OK.

cc:Mail Import/Export
---------------------
By default, cc:Mail Import/Export uses codepage 850, which is an
OEM codepage that does not support the Euro currency character.

NOTE The following procedure and command assumes cc:Mail Import/Export
has been installed on a computer using Windows 95 with the Euro update
applied.

To make cc:Mail Import/Export Euro-ready for exporting and importing
cc:Mail messages containing the Euro character, follow these steps:

1. Use the "CODEPAGE/nnnn" command on the Export/Import command line
   to set the codepage.

2. Replace "nnnn" with the proper ANSI codepage on the computer where
   Import/Export is installed.

   EXPORT "Joe User" password d:\ccdata CODEPAGE/1252 @JoeMsgs.exp

NOTE You can use both the CODEPAGE command and the MAILBOX command
on the same command line for a full user move of a user whose
messages contain the Euro character. The post office where you are
importing the user messages must have the Euro-ready CCINTL.TB file
installed before you perform the import operation.

Known Problems and Workarounds
==============================

. For best results, Lotus cc:Mail recommends that you use the
   latest releases of cc:Mail software.

. cc:Mail for Windows Release 6.x clients cannot consistently support
the Euro currency character in its messages at this time. Under
some conditions, the Euro character does correctly appear in the
Subject line of a message, but it cannot be entered in the message
text or read in the message body by the Release 6.x client.

Lotus is currently investigating if the cc:Mail for Windows Release
6.x clients will be able to fully support the Euro character in the
   future.

. Messages created by a cc:Mail Windows Release 8.x client and read
by a cc:Mail for Windows Release 6.x client correctly display the
Euro character in the Inbox when an Euro-ready font is selected,
but it won't display the Euro character when the message is opened.

When the Euro character is part of the message text, it can appear as
a cedille character (as in some French characters), a pipe, a
   question mark, or an underscore.

. cc:Mail for Windows Release 8 clients allow users to create a rule
that searches for the Euro character in the Subject line or in the
message text and act on it if it finds one. When there is a Euro
character in the rule description, it appears as a question mark when
viewed in the Rules folder list. However, the Euro character is
properly displayed when you edit the rule and the rule runs correctly.

. You cannot create a folder name that includes the Euro character,
unless the codepage of the post office matches the ANSI codepage
of the computer or workstation that supports the Euro character.

To create a post office that uses the ANSI codepage, use cc:Mail
Admin (Windows) to create the post office. You can also convert
the OEM codepage that a post office uses to an ANSI codepage using
the CCCPSO program. Currently, Lotus does not support using the
Euro character in Directory entries, folder names, mailing list
   names, or bulletin board names.

. Currently, the only OEM codepage that supports the Euro character
is 858. However, you cannot create a post office with the OEM
   codepage 858.

. If you create a post office with the current versions of cc:Mail
Admin (for DOS or Windows), the post office is created using an
older version of the CCINTL.TB file. To update a new post office
to use the Euro character, copy the enclosed Euro-ready CCINTL.TB
file into the cc:Mail post office directory after creating the
   post office.

. cc:Mail Release 6 and earlier post offices do not currently support
   the Euro character.

. The Euro character is not supported for SMI-based applications.

. The Internet server services (Link to SMTP, POP3, and IMAP) do not
   currently support the Euro character.
