mqsisetsecurity command

Use the mqsisetsecurity command on distributed operating systems to create the groups that WebSphere® Message Broker requires for secure access to its runtime libraries and data.

Supported platforms

  • Windows
  • Linux and UNIX systems

Purpose

The mqsisetsecurity command runs automatically as part of the installation process of the Broker component on distributed systems. However, the installation must be completed as root on AIX®, or as a user with root level authority on Linux and on other UNIX systems. If you do not plan to run the installation of the Broker component as root, or as a user with root authorities, you must create the group mqbrkrs by using the following command, and add your login ID to the group once it has been created:
SUDO add grp mqbrkrs
For more information about the extra tasks that you must complete to run the Broker component installer as a user without root authorities, see Security on Linux and UNIX systems.

Otherwise, the installation wizard calls the mqsisetsecurity command, which creates a new security group called mqbrkrs. On Windows platforms, this command also adds your current (logged on) user ID to the group mqbrkrs, and to the group mqm, if that group exists. If WebSphere MQ is installed on a Windows workstation after WebSphere Message Broker, you can issue the mqsisetsecurity command to add your account to the group mqm.
