This section outlines the restrictions and limitations of WebSphere Message Broker, by component.
When creating your installation path, ensure that the path length does not exceed the maximum character length for your system. (For example; Windows allows a maximum of 256 characters).
For installations on Microsoft® Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows Server 2008, install a WebSphere MQ V7 fix pack that includes APAR number IC57915 to avoid the following issues:
When performing a product installation using the WebSphere Message Broker Windows Launchpad, the Windows C runtime libraries (Windows CRT) installation is displayed as a mandatory prerequisite.
However, if you are applying service to upgrade an existing installation to Version 6.1.0.3 or later, you must install the Windows CRT separately to avoid the following issues:
mqsi*.exe commands in the toolkit, such as mqsimigratemsgsets.exe,
fail with errors such as: "This application has failed to install
because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may
fix this problem." Solution:
Install the Windows CRT separately.
The English Windows CRT installer has been included in the broker bin directory. Navigate to your installation and double-click the vcredist_x86.exe file to compete the installation.

Installations of WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1.0.2 (Fix Pack 2) or below on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 do not work correctly and create unusual elements in the file system and registry which might require manual removal.
Solution:
Install WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1.0.3 (fix pack 3) or later, which is supported on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
This issue is resolved in Version 6.1.0.3 (fix pack 3).
If you choose to install runtime components silently, and you generate a template or record a response file, the examples in the Installation Guide, Chapter 7 "Choosing an installation interface" on page 79, are incorrect. To record a response file enter:
installer -options-record responsefile.
To generate a template, enter
installer -options-template responsefile.
The corresponding commands in table 13 on page 80 are also incorrect; you must not include a space between -options and -record or -template.

When using the Windows extraction wizard to extract WebSphere Message Broker V6.1 compressed files downloaded from the Passport Advantage Xtreme Leverage Web site, specifying a long directory path in which to extract the files might cause a password message to display.
If you extract a file into a directory with a long path, the path length might be too long for the Windows extraction wizard to process, and instead of receiving an error message, a window opens with a message prompting for a password. For example, "Password Needed File 'DB2CS_NewCLRProcWizard...' is password protected. Please enter the password in the box below". This message is erroneous and might be displayed for many files.
Solution:
Extract the file to a location with a short directory path, such as C:\temp\dbimage.
After deploying a message flow and starting a broker, you might see the following symptoms:
BIP2060W: The broker has detected that the Execution Group <insert_1>,
process ID <insert_2>, has shutdown.
BIP2227E: Error encountered during abend processing: <insert_1>
- terminating.
Additionally, the mqsistart command might
not start the broker, and the syslog might contain the following error
message:
BIP8893E: Verification failed. Unable to access file '/var/mqsi/components/AIX53_BK/bipcvp_javaversion.tmp'
with user ID <insert_2>.
These problems can occur if the level of the AIX V5.3 file set bos.rte.libc is below 5.3.0.52.
Solution:
To overcome this issue, upgrade the bos.rte.libc file set to a minimum level of 5.3.0.52. Version 5.3.0.52 is available in AIX version 5.3 TL05 SP2.
Upgrading AIX to V5.3 TL7 or TL8 also upgrades the xlC.rte file set to V9.0.0.1, causing the following symptoms when starting the AIX server, starting WebSphere MQ, deploying a message flow, or starting a broker:
BIP2623E: Unable to open queue <insert_2> on WebSphere
MQ queue manager <insert_1>: completion code <insert_3>; reason
code <insert_4>
BIP2604E: Node failed to open WebSphere MQ queue <insert_2>
owned by queue manager <insert_1>: completion code <insert_3>;
reason code <insert_4>
MQRC=2018: 2018 0x000007e2 MQRC_HCONN_ERROR
These problems can occur if the xlC.rte file set version is above V9, but below 9.0.0.3.
Solution:
To overcome this issue, upgrade the xlC.rte file set version to
9.0.0.3. For further information, and for a link to the PTF download
that contains the AIX package with the xlC.rte.9.0.0.3 file set, see

The tooling and runtime components of WebSphere Message Broker do not support Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) enabled.
When you migrate a runtime component from either Version 5.0 or
Version 6.0 to Version 6.1 on the same computer, open a new shell
before you run mqsiprofile to set up your command
environment.
Migration for z/OS requires IC54505. IC54505 is included in Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2).
In Version 5.0 and 6.0, you can have a message set containing both non-MRM and MRM models with the message set Message Domain property set to something other than 'MRM' or 'IDOC', and generate a .dictionary file when the message set is added to a bar file, regardless of the Message Domain setting.
In Version 6.1, a dictionary is generated only if Message Domain is 'MRM' or 'IDOC'.
Solution:
Select the MRM check box under the message set Supported message domains property.
When you try to start the toolkit a "JVM terminated Exit Code = 1" error is displayed, or the javaw.exe process takes 100% of the CPU and stops.
The problem might be due to the -Xshareclasses:singleJVM, keep switch in the eclipse.ini file. This switch creates a cache that provides a means of sharing all loaded classes, and places no restrictions on the JVMs that are sharing the class data. If the cache becomes corrupted, no new JVMs are allowed to connect to the cache. Existing JVMs can continue to function, but cannot update the cache.
Solution:
To resolve the problem, delete the corrupted cache. The cache is rebuilt the next time the product is launched. To delete the cache:
On Microsoft Windows:
javaw.exe -Xshareclasses:destroy
On Linux:
./javaw -Xshareclasses:destroy
The product now starts successfully.
If you need to update packages that were originally installed using the IBM Installation Manager, you must also update them using the IBM Installation Manager. Although you can use Eclipse Update Manager to install non-IBM plug-ins, it is important that you do not use Eclipse Update Manager to update Eclipse features and plug-ins that were originally installed using the IBM Installation Manager. When you add plug-ins using the Eclipse Update Manager, ensure that you install them into the package group directory and not the shared resources directory (which is managed by the IBM Installation Manager and is reserved).
When multiple products have been installed as part of a package group, the panel that is displayed while the program is starting (which is sometimes referred to as the "splash screen") is dependent upon which product in the package group was installed first. For example, if you installed Rational® Application Developer (RAD), then WebSphere Message Broker, and then WebSphere Integration Developer (WID), the startup panel for RAD is displayed when any of the three programs is starting.
Formatting a WSDL or XSD file a certain way might cause problems in the resulting project after importing.
Symptoms:
Solution:
If you encounter any unexpected results after importing WSDL or Schema resources into a message set, cleanup or format the file. Complete the following steps to cleanup or format the file:
The file now imports successfully.
On Windows, the "Start Help" and "Stop Help" menu items in the Start > Program Files are missing.
If you import WSDL or XSD definitions, you might encounter errors in the file validity for certain file encodings such as EBCDIC-CP-US. To import these definitions successfully, update the encoding attribute within the XML file to the encoding of the system (for example; UTF-8).
This issue is resolved in Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2).
Windows .NET Server Web Services Security X509 is not supported with WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1. All other WebSphere Message Broker Web Services capabilities with Windows .NET are still fully supported, specifically USERNAME tokens for Web Services Security.
The use of Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism (MTOM) attachments greater than 16 KB in size is not supported.
The Collector node can cause abends which are resolved in IC54505. IC54505 is included in Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2).
This issue is resolved in Version 6.1.0.3 (fix pack 3).
When using the XMLNSC parser to determine the end of a message in the TCP/IP input and receive nodes, the XMLNSC parser finds the end of the message only if the next XML document appears on the bit stream, or if the end of bit stream is seen by the XMLNSC parser. If neither of these occur, a timeout exception is displayed.
To overcome this, set the Record detection property to Delimited,
and add a null character to the bit stream.
The TCP/IP nodes on Solaris x86-64 do not process data and might refuse connections. If you experience these problems, set rlim_fd_max and rlim_fd_cur to 8193 or lower.
The JMS nodes on z/OS do not support the coordinated transactions until IC54505. IC54505 is included in Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2).
WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1.0.1 (fix pack 1) EndpointLookup and RegistryLookup nodes can be used to access service metadata that resides on WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) version 6.0.2 or version 6.1. However new functionality introduced in WSRR Version 6.1, such as referencing MQ Endpoints within WSDL and accessing modeled objects and elements, is not currently supported.
WebSphere Service Registry and Repository (WSRR) version 6.1 or later, is supported. Previous versions of WSRR are not supported.
Migrating from WebSphere MQ link for SAP R/3 to WebSphere Message Broker V6.1 requires IC54505. IC54505 is included in Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2).
Globally coordinated ('XA') transactions are not supported.
Oracle globally coordinated ('XA') transactions are not supported on Windows with Oracle 11g clients.
Oracle globally coordinated ('XA') transactions are not supported with Oracle RAC data sources.
JDBC/XA globally coordinated ('XA') transactions are supported on DB2® and Oracle (except Oracle RAC) on all broker platforms except HP-UX on Itanium® and z/OS.
ODBC XA and JDBC/XA cannot be mixed on the same broker.
Informix globally coordinated ('XA') transactions are not supported.
Informix stored procedures are supported from V6.1.0.4 (fix pack
4) when using the version of the Informix Client listed in the V6.1
detailed system requirements for your platform at:

If a DB2 Version 9 stored procedure that has parameters of type 'REAL' is executed against a DB2 database which is on a z/OS system, the call fails with DB2 error "CLI0111E Numeric value out of range. SQLSTATE=22003".
Solution:
Install the following minimum versions of DB2:
For DB2 V9.1: Fix pack 6 with APAR IZ23102.
For DB2 V9.5: Fix pack 2 with APAR IZ23103.
The DataDirect ODBC drivers supplied with WebSphere Message Broker, and the corresponding sample ODBC .ini files, were updated for all platforms except HP-UX on PA-RISC at Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2), and for HP-UX on PA-RISC at Version 6.1.0.3 (fix pack 3).
If your current installation is at Version 6.1.0.0 or Version 6.1.0.1 (fix pack 1), you must make additional changes to your ODBC connections when you apply Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2) or later.

If you have a DB2 Version 8.1 or 9.1 database on z/OS you must install the fix for DB2 APAR PK74344 or you might see Character Large Object (CLOB) data corruptions, or SQL error messages when using the SELECT function, such as a return of SQLSTATE 01004.
If you have installed WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2) or below on HP-UX on PA-RISC, you must use the DataDirect Connect (or DataDirect Connect64) for ODBC Drivers (DD) V5.0 to set up ODBC connections to databases. The information center topics refer to DD V5.3, which is not supported on this platform.

This document provides detailed information about how to define connections and configure global coordination of transactions using the DD V5.0 drivers. No other platforms are affected by this change.
Linux and UNIX ODBC trace is enabled using the Trace setting
in the [ODBC] stanza of the $ODBCINI32, or the $ODBCINI file.
To turn on ODBC trace, set Trace to 1, for
example Trace=1. The DataDirect V5.3 ODBC drivers support
an additional setting called TraceOptions. TraceOptions can
be set to the value 3 for additional trace detail, including
timestamp information.
Information center topics ah14449_, ah14452_, ah25530_, and ah14444_
refer to setting the TraceOptions value to 3,
however TraceOptions=3 causes ODBC trace to be active
regardless of the Trace setting. Therefore this option has not been
included in the sample 32–bit ODBC definition file (odbc32.ini),
or the sample 64–bit ODBC definition file (odbc64.ini) that
are supplied with WebSphere Message Broker.
Solution:
When you have finished collecting trace, edit the $ODBCINI32 or $ODBCINI file
and either remove the line TraceOptions=3, or comment
it out; for example ;#TraceOptions=3.
If you have previously created a broker that uses a Sybase database as the broker database, and you want to upgrade to Message Broker Version 6.1.0.2 (fix pack 2), the broker and the broker database might encounter problems when you start the broker.
To overcome this, run the following commands after migration, and before you start the broker.
isql -Umqsiuid -Pmqsipw
If you have authorized another user ID and password for broker
access to the database, substitute your values for mqsiuid and mqsipw in
that command.
