Using the DICOM test application

You can use the DICOM test application to test that you are able to send DICOM images to an SCP and receive DICOM images from an SCU.

Before you start:

IBM® WebSphere Message Broker Connectivity Pack for Healthcare includes a DICOM test application. The DICOM test application is used to send DICOM images to a Service Class Provider (SCP) and receive DICOM images from a Service Class User (SCU). The DICOM test application provides some basic DICOM verification and test capability but does not have all the options that are available with the DICOMInput and DICOMOutput nodes (such as detailed configuration of presentation contexts). You can use the DICOM test application to verify the connectivity between your broker and the DICOM SCU and DICOM SCP before you create your message flows. You can also use the DICOM test application to create a set of DICOM XML messages to use in a Data Analysis project. For more information about analyzing data in message flows, see Analyzing healthcare data in message flows.
  1. Create a DICOM test application by completing the following steps:
    1. From the WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit menu, click File > New > Other. A window opens in which you can select the wizard.
    2. From the Healthcare folder, select DICOM Test application and click Next. The New DICOM Test Application dialog opens.
    3. Enter the name of an existing application or library, or click Browse to select one from a list.
    4. Accept the default name for the DICOM test application, or enter a new name (ensuring that it has an extension of .dcp).
    5. Click Finish. The DICOM test application is created in the Other Resources folder of the specified application or library, and the DICOM test application editor opens.
  2. Configure the DICOM test application by completing the information in the following tabs:
    • In the DICOM Sender tab, configure the DICOM test application to send DICOM images to an SCP.
    • In the DICOM Receiver tab, configure the DICOM test application to receive DICOM images from an SCP.
  3. Send and receive DICOM images by completing the following steps:
    • In the Message Results tab, click Send to send DICOM images to the SCP.
    • In the Message Results tab, click Start to receive DICOM images from the SCU.
  4. Verify that the DICOM images are being transferred correctly, or troubleshoot any issues, by viewing the messages in the Log Messages tab.
You used the DICOM test application to test the sending and receiving of DICOM images.
Note: The DICOM test application also includes an additional tab, Web Service, which you can use with the Healthcare: Web service to DICOM pattern to send and receive web service messages. For more information about the Healthcare: Web service to DICOM pattern, see Healthcare: Web Service to DICOM.
