Use the instructions in this tutorial to verify your installation
of WebSphere® Message
Broker and learn how to deploy
broker archive files with the WebSphere Message Broker Explorer.
You must have installed the
WebSphere Message Broker Explorer to
run this tutorial. If you are using the
WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit you can verify your installation
using one of the samples.

see Samples.
To verify your installation using the
WebSphere Message Broker Explorer you can complete the following
tasks:
- Create a Default Configuration
- Deploy a broker archive file
- Check the results of a deployment
- Test the message flow
Use the following instructions to complete these tasks:
- To use the WebSphere Message Broker Explorer you
must start the WebSphere MQ Explorer.
To start the WebSphere MQ Explorer, complete
one of the following steps:
- On Windows:
Click , or open a command line in which the mqsiprofile command has not
been run and enter the strmqcfg command.
- On Linux:
Enter the strmqcfg command
on a command line in which the mqsiprofile command has not
been run, or run /usr/bin/strmqcfg.
- Create the Default Configuration:
- Start the Create the Default Configuration wizard
using the following link:
Start the Default Configuration
wizard
You can use this link only when
you use the information center that is integrated with the WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit or the WebSphere Message Broker Explorer.
- Alternatively, you can use the following instructions to start
the Create the Default Configuration wizard:
- In the WebSphere MQ Explorer - Navigator view,
click the Brokers folder.
- In the WebSphere MQ Explorer - Content view,
click the Create the Default Configuration button.
The Create the Default Configuration wizard is
displayed.
- You can click Cancel at any time
to cancel the creation of the default configuration.
- The Default Configuration Summary page lists the resources
created. Click Next to continue.
- Click Finish.
The default broker is
created and started. The broker is
also added to the WebSphere MQ Explorer - Navigator view.
- Deploy the broker archive file to the broker:
- Expand the Broker Archive Files folder.
- Expand the Getting Started folder.
- Right-click the pager.bar file,
and click Deploy File.
- Select the MB8BROKER broker, and click Finish. The broker archive file is deployed to the broker.
If you do not have a
Getting Started folder, you can import the
pager.bar file from the installation directory of
WebSphere Message Broker Explorer.
- Ensure that you have a folder under the Broker Archive Files (or Bar Files) folder to import into.
- Right-click the folder, and select Import Bar Files.
- Browse to the com.ibm.etools.wmadmin.welcome plugin directory within the installation directory.
On Windows this is typically C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\IBExplorer\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.etools.wmadmin.welcome_<version>.
On Linux this is typically /opt/IBM/IBExplorer/eclipse/plugins/com.ibm.etools.wmadmin.welcome_<version>
- Select the pager.bar file and click Finish.
- Check the results of the deployment:
- In the WebSphere MQ Explorer - Navigator view,
expand the Brokers folder.
- Click MB8BROKER to
select the broker.
- View messages from the broker in the Administration Log
view. If the
deployment was successful, message BIP2881I is displayed in the Administration Log
view. You can also see the
TextMessenger message flow and the PagerMessageSets message set deployed
to the Default execution group under the MB8BROKER broker.
- Test the message flow:
- In the WebSphere MQ Explorer - Navigator view,
expand MB8QMGR in
the Queue Managers folder.
- Right-click the Queues folder,
and click .
- Enter TEXTMESSENGER as the name for the queue, and click Finish. This queue is the input queue for the Pager message flow.
- Click OK.
- Right-click the Queues folder,
and click .
- Enter TEXTMESSENGER_FAIL as the name for the queue,
and click Finish. This queue is
the failure queue for the Pager message flow.
- Click OK.
- Right-click the Queues folder,
and click .
- Enter PAGER as the name for the queue, and click Finish. This queue is the output queue for the Pager message flow.
- Click OK.
- In the WebSphere MQ Explorer - Content view
right-click the TEXTMESSENGER queue, and click Put Test
Message. The Put test message dialog
is displayed.
- Enter the following message in the message data field,
and click Put message to put the test message
to the input queue for the Pager message flow:
<Pager><text>This is my message to the pager.</text></Pager>
The test message is passed through the message flow, transformed,
and the output message is put to the Pager queue.
- Click Close to close the Put
test message dialog.
- Right-click the Pager queue, and click Browse
Messages. The Message browser dialog opens
and displays any messages on the queue. If the test is successful,
the queue shows a message like the following:

- Click Close to close the Message
browser dialog.
