Message Sets: Working with data structures

You can create a message definition file in a message set by importing from XML Schema, XML DTD, SCA import or export components, IBM® supplied messages, WSDL definitions, IDL files, C header files, and COBOL copybooks. This topic area describes how to import from these data structures using the command line or the WebSphere® Message Broker Toolkit.

Tip: In WebSphere Message Broker Version 8.0 and later, message model schema files contained in applications and libraries are the preferred way to model messages for most data formats. Message sets are required if you use the MRM or IDOC domains. For more information about message modeling, see Message modeling concepts.

Before you attempt to create a message definition from a data structure, by using the WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit, you are advised to read Importing files from the file system into the WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit.
