Performing in-place broker migration for a Version 7.0 broker on distributed operating systems
Migrate a broker to use the enhanced facilities available in WebSphere® Message Broker Version 8.0.
- Back up your broker resources by following the instructions in Backing up WebSphere Message Broker Version 7.0 resources.
- For the latest details of all supported levels of hardware and software, visit the WebSphere Message Broker Requirements website.
- Install WebSphere MQ and migrate your queue managers and other resources, following the instructions that are provided by WebSphere MQ.
- Migrate the WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit resources by following the instructions in Migrating development resources to WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit Version 8.0.
- Check that you have no aggregations in progress on this broker. When you migrate a broker to Version 8.0, all live data that is being stored for aggregations in progress is lost.
- If the broker runs in a locale that is not listed in Locales, check that the code page is one of the supported code pages, and that the locale is set up correctly.
You cannot use in-place migration to migrate a broker from WebSphere Message Broker Version 7.0 on a Windows x86 operating system to WebSphere Message Broker on a Windows x86-64 operating system. You must use parallel migration to migrate brokers between deployments on these operating systems, see Parallel broker migration
If you stop the broker, you can migrate it in-place immediately to the new version on the same computer. If you prefer not to stop the broker to avoid problems for your business applications, or if you want to reproduce the broker function on another computer, you can instead perform parallel broker migration by associating the application logic on your Version 7.0 broker with a separate Version 8.0 broker. For more information, see Performing parallel broker migration for a Version 7.0 broker.
