License requirements

Use the reference information in this section to understand license requirements.

You can install WebSphere® Message Broker to support a full range of transformation and routing operations. If appropriate, you can install an edition that supports a restricted set of functions, if that subset fulfills your business requirements. You must ensure that your use and configuration of the product conforms to the license agreement that you have purchased:

  • WebSphere Message Broker Developer Edition. You can download this edition at no charge and you are free to use it for as long as you require, within the terms of the license. You can use all available function, and you are not limited in the number of resources that you can create and maintain.
  • WebSphere Message Broker Standard Edition. Purchase this edition to satisfy either of the following sets of requirements:
    • You expect to use all or most of the features that are available, but you configure a limited environment because of low capacity requirements. You can use all available function, but are limited in the number of resources that you create and maintain.
    • You expect to use only a basic set of features, but have high capacity requirements. You can use a limited set of nodes, but there is no limit to the number of resources that you can create and maintain.
  • WebSphere Message Broker Express® Edition. If you expect to use only a basic set of features and have only low capacity requirements, purchase this edition. You can use a limited set of nodes, and you are limited in the number of resources that you create and maintain.
  • WebSphere Message Broker Scale mode. If you expect to use only a basic set of features, but have high capacity requirements, purchase this license. You can use a limited set of nodes, but there is no limit to the number of resources that you can create and maintain.
WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus (WESB) customers can obtain a transfer license, which enables you to migrate from WESB to WebSphere Message Broker, and to create and run brokers in Scale mode. As a current WESB customer, you can obtain the following transfer licenses:
    • WebSphere Message Broker WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus Transfer License
    • WebSphere Message Broker WebSphere Ent Svc Bus Transfer License Idle Standby
These licenses entitle you to obtain and use WebSphere Message Broker in Scale mode in exchange for your WESB product licenses.
  • WebSphere Message Broker Remote Adapter Deployment. If you expect your typical use of WebSphere Message Broker to be integration with Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), purchase this edition. This edition supports the subset of development resources that provide EIS interaction.
  • WebSphere Message Broker. If you want to set up a full broker environment that uses most or all of the features available, you require a full (unrestricted) license.
