Linking capabilities to processes

When you are mapping the capabilities for your business, either to reflect what capabilities you currently have, or to determine what capabilities you need to have in the future, you might find that you want to drill down below the level of a capability into the set of business processes that support that capability.

Before you begin
You can organize your processes in terms of the capabilities they support by adding links between the process maps and the relevant capabilities.
  1. You can also take a top-down approach, defining a capability, then linking to the processes that already exist or that must exist in the future. To do this, select a capability in your capability map.
  2. In the Details view, expand the Supporting Processes section and click Add a process. The Link to Supporting Process window appears
  3. If you are linking to an existing process that has already been added to your Business Leader space, click Link to a document or element in this space. If you are linking to a public document that exists in the repository, click Link to a document or element in the repository.
  4. You can also create new process maps to link to. This is useful when you want to quickly list all the processes that support a capability, and create process maps for all of them in one step. To do this, click the New Process button. Modify the default name of the newly created process map to reflect the name of the process that is needed to support the capability.
Example

After you have added processes, they will appear in the Supporting Processes section of the Details view. Document viewers can navigate to these processes from the links in this section.

Note: If you have created new process maps from within a capability map, you should modify these new process maps to reflect the actual process flow.
