Exporting process maps to WebSphere Business Modeler

After you create a process map, you can export and save it in a format that can be imported into WebSphere Business Modeler, where the process model can be refined and expanded for simulation or for deployment as an application.

Before you begin
Before you export your map, make sure that you have saved all of your recent updates by clicking the Save button.
  1. In the Export toolbar, click the WebSphere Business Modeler button. A download dialog opens.
  2. Click
  3. Click Save. A Save As dialog appears.
  4. Select a location to save your exported file, and click OK. Your exported file is saved in .xml format and can be imported into WebSphere Business Modeler using the WebSphere Business Modeler XML (.xml) import type.
Example
When you import your Business Leader process map into WebSphere Business Modeler, the objects you created in the Business Leader widgets are mapped to their corresponding WebSphere Business Modeler elements as described in the following table:

Activity inputs and outputs Business item An input to an activity in the process map becomes a business item that is associated with the input to the corresponding task in WebSphere Business Modeler. Likewise, an activity output becomes a business item that is associated with the corresponding task.

A single business item is created per unique input or output string, even if multiple activities refer to the same input or output.

The input of the first activity and the output of the last activity become the process input and output, respectively.

Each output specified for a given activity is associated with an input connection to the following task.

If the output of one activity does not match the input of the following activity, a map element will be created in WebSphere Business Modeler to transform the output into the format required for the input of the next activity in the process.

Activity owner Role The owner of an activity is associated with a new role in the WebSphere Business Modeler project. The role is specified as a role requirement for the corresponding task.

A single role is created per unique owner string, even if multiple activities refer to the same owner.

For example, imagine that you created the following Business Leader process map:
You might import this map into WebSphere Business Modeler, and see the following process diagram:

Note that the sub-activities of the Post job activity have been grouped together in a local subprocess in the WebSphere Business Modeler process diagram. The following image is the expanded sub-process that you might see:

The inputs and outputs that you listed in the details view for each activity become business items, and the owners that are associated with each activity become roles in the WebSphere Business Modeler project.
