Managing your timetables

This scenario describes how you can use a business space to view, edit, and modify timetables that define the available time for your business application, and how you can set the appropriate role-based access for the timetables.

This scenario uses widgets that contain content from WebSphere® Process Server. If WebSphere Process Server is not installed, Business Space replaces its widgets with an image and a message.

If a Solution Management space is not available, see Creating a Solution Management space to create a space using this template. Some of the steps and information might not apply to your situation. Adapt the scenario to fit your needs.

In this scenario, you learn how to use Business Space to work with timetables for your business solution and role-based access to those timetables, using the Business Calendar Manager widget and the Security Manager widget.

You are responsible for updating the available time for a solution that is integrated with a new business partner's human resources application. You must account for the available time for the new business partner by modifying timetables. Also, you must make sure that the appropriate team members have access to the timetables and can modify them in the future.

To perform these tasks, use Business Space with the following widgets: Business Calendar Manager and Security Manager. Complete the following steps:

  1. Log onto Business Space and open the Business Calendar Manager.
  2. Your business partner has two additional holidays, December 26 and 27, which you must add to the Holiday timetable. Under All Timetables, double-click the Holiday timetable.
  3. At the bottom of the Time intervals table, click the Create Time Interval button to create a time interval for these two days.
  4. Type business partner holidays in the subject, and make sure that the Available time check box is cleared, because a holiday represents unavailable time. Under When, select December 26 from the calendar. Under Recurrence, select Daily, and under Every, select 2, to designate that the time interval lasts for two days.
  5. Click Save to save the new time interval for the Holiday timetable.
  6. To give all of the human resources employees the ability to view this timetable, complete the following steps:
    1. Open the Security Manager.
    2. Click the Reader role for the timetable.
    3. From the Module Chooser list, select the module that contains the Holiday timetable.
    4. click the Reader role for the timetable and then perform the following steps.
    5. In the window on the right side of the page, click Add.
    6. Type the name (or part of the name) for the group of human resources employees and click Search.
    7. From the list that is displayed, select one or more users or groups and click OK.
  7. To give the human resources manager the ability to edit the timetable, complete the following steps:
    1. Click the Writer role for the timetable.
    2. In the window on the right side of the page, click Add.
    3. Type the name (or part of the name) of the manager and click Search.
    4. From the list that is displayed, select the user name and click OK.
  8. Click Save to save all of the role assignment changes.
