Deployment Topology

Use this page to add nodes to deployment environments and assign nodes to the functional areas within a deployment environment based on an IBM-supplied pattern. You can also delete nodes from the deployment environment definition. The panel enforces any functional constraints you define to prevent configuration errors caused by insufficient resources for a specific function.

Security role required: Your userid must be associated with either Administrator or Configurator role to use this page.

To view this administrative console page, click Servers > Deployment Environments > Deployment environment name > Additional Properties > Deployment Topology.

The table contains the following control and information.

Remove
Removes selected rows from the table, if removing the node does not violate any of the constraints you placed on the deployment environment.
Select
Selects the current row. Selecting a populated row and clicking Delete removes a node. Select a row with an empty node name and click Replace Selected to replace the empty node with the selected Node Name. Adding a nonexisting node makes that node a named constraint.
Node
The node name.
Status
An icon that represents the status of the specified node.
Product
The WebSphere® product installed on the node.
Version
The actual version of the installed product.
Base Version
The version of the base on which the server is built. Usually this is some version of WebSphere Application Server.
Host
The domain name or IP address of the host on which the node is located.
Application Deployment Target
Specifies how many cluster members on this node must be configured for this function. By default this number is set to one but you can set this higher if you require additional processing resources. Keep in mind that each node generates a virtual machine that will use up resources.
Messaging Infrastructure
Specifies how many cluster members on this node must be configured for this function. By default this number is set to one but you can set this higher if you require additional processing resources. Keep in mind that each node generates a virtual machine that will use up resources.
Support Infrastructure
Specifies how many cluster members on this node must be configured for this function. By default this number is set to one but you can set this higher if you require additional processing resources. Keep in mind that each node generates a virtual machine that will use up resources.

Existing node

Select this radio button to choose a row from a list of federated nodes you. When you select this radio and click Add or Replace Selected, the system populates the Node field in the deployment environment with your choice by adding a row or replacing the selected row.

Property Value
Data type List of federated nodes
Default None

New node

Selecting this radio and specifying a node name allows you to add or replace a node with a nonexistent or an unfederated node. You must federate the node to complete the configuration. After selecting this radio and specifying the node name, click Add to add a node to the topology or click Replace Selected to replace the node selected in the topology with the node.

Property Value
Data type String
Default None

Unnamed node

Adds an unnamed node to the topology or replaces an existing node with an unnamed node. Select this radio and click Add to add an unnamed node to the topology or click Replace Selected to replace a selected node in the topology with an unnamed node. Use an unnamed node as a placeholder that you will replace with a federated node at a later date to meet your deployment environment constraints.
