Creating a Managing Business Performance space

If a Managing Business Performance business space is not available, you can create one.

A Managing Business Performance business space uses widgets that contain content from WebSphere® Process Server and WebSphere Business Monitor. If a product is not installed, Business Space replaces its widgets with an image and a message.

If you are planning to use the KPIs widget, the process server must have a monitor model containing a KPI model. If you are planning to use the Diagrams widget, the Instances widget, or the Human Tasks widget, the monitoring model must contain the information that these widgets use. Finally, you must have the access rights necessary to access the monitoring model. Without the access rights, you will not be able to configure the widgets to show the information that you want.

The following example creates the space for the Managing Business Performance scenario:

  1. After logging on to Business Space, you create a business space using the Managing Business Performance template. For information about how to create the business space, see Creating business spaces.
  2. On the Managed Team Tasks page and the Business KPIs, configure the KPIs widgets:
    1. From the widget action menu, select Configure.
    2. In the KPIs tab, select the KPI for the number of sales.
Note: You can configure the widget to display many KPIs but this is the important one for users of this space in this scenario. You can also configure the two KPIs widgets to display different KPIs.
    3. In the Layout tab, select how you want to display the KPI.
    4. Click Apply and check the result of your configuration in the bottom part of the widget.
    5. Keep changing the configuration until the widget displays the information that you want to see in the way that you want to see it and then click OK.
  3. On the Business KPIs page and the Operational page, configure the Diagrams widget to display the diagram for the business process. The diagram will help the space users understand the business process.
  4. Configure the Instances widget to display the values of instances of data. For example, configure the Instances widget to display how many orders that the business process has completed and the value of those orders.
  5. Configure the Human Tasks widget to display the properties of the individual tasks with the business process that people perform. For example, you can configure the widget to display the task ID, who owns the task, its status, and other properties as columns in the widget.
  6. On the Business Configuration page, configure the Business Rules widget to only display the business rules that apply to the business process if the business rules have been grouped in this way.
    1. From the widget action menu, select Configure.
    2. Enable Show selected business groups.
    3. From the list of available business rule groups, select the ones that apply to the current business process.
    4. Click Apply and check the result of your configuration in the bottom part of the widget.
    5. Keep changing the configuration until the widget displays the information that you want to see and then click OK.
For an example of how you might use the business space that you created, see the Managing My Tasks scenario.
