Unzipping the sample widgets

In showing you how to develop your own widget, we will make use of the source files and structure of the provided sample widgets.

Although there is no prerequisite for unzipping the sample widgets, it is useful if you have previously gone through the deploying and registering sections.

To unzip the sample widgets, follow these steps:

  1. Create a temporary directory where you can copy the sample widgets to.
  2. At the file system level, locate the EAR file, BSpaceSamples.ear. You will find it in this path:

    <installdir>\profiles\<profilename>\installableApps

profiles in some products is pf.

  3. Copy BSpaceSamples.ear to your temporary directory. Change the file type from ear to zip; that is, rename the file to BSpaceSamples.zip. Unzip the renamed file.
  4. In the temporary directory, you will see another zipped file called BSpaceWidgetsSamples.war. Unzip this file to the same temporary directory.
  5. If you still have the sample EAR deployed, an alternate way of creating the same set of unzipped files is to copy the following directory to your new temporary directory:

    <installdir>\profiles\<profilename>\installedApps\<nodename>\IBM_BSPACE_SAMPLES.ear

profiles in some products is pf.

You have unzipped the sample widgets to a temporary directory. Now you will start developing your own widget. As you work on developing your own widget, we will reference the source code and the structure that is found in the sample widgets which you have unzipped. The next step is to learn about the development environment in Environment for developing a widget.
