Clearing the cache before restarting the help system

To fix errors in the update log file related to loading features or plug-ins into your help system, clear the cache and then restart.

About this task

To improve performance, the help system caches files under the <eclipse_home>/configuration directory when it is started on your workstation for the first time and reads the caches under this directory for display in later startups. If you add a feature or plug-in to your help system and it does not appear, deleting all of the files under the <eclipse_home>/configuration directory except the config.ini file will let the help system recreate the cache files the next time you start up.

Complete the following steps to recache the features or plug-ins in your help system.

Procedure
  1. Navigate to the update log file. By default, the update log file is created in the following directory: <eclipse_home>/configuration/*.log.
  2. Stop the help system. For more information on stopping the help system, see Stopping the help system.
  3. Delete all files under the directory <eclipse_home>/configuration except the config.ini file.
  4. Restart the help system.

Results

The help system will display the updated features or plug-ins in the navigation.
