Adding widgets

If you own a page or are an editor, you can add widgets to a page to provide the information you need and act on it.

You cannot add widgets directly to a business space. You must add them to an existing page.

A page uses one layout of a set of predefined layouts to determine the positions of its widgets. A layout divides the page into one or more sections. A section can contain more than one widget. When this occurs, the widgets stack vertically within the section with the new widget at the bottom.
Tip: Too many widgets on a page impacts performance. The recommended maximum is six widgets. Try to limit the widgets that you put on a page to the ones that are necessary for the purpose of the page.

To add a widget to a page:

  1. If you want to rearrange how the page displays the widgets or provide a new section within the page to add the widget:
    1. Open the page menu by clicking its menu icon .
    2. Click Layout and then select the layout.
  2. Open the palette by clicking Add Widgets. The palette opens to reveal the widgets that you can add to the page.
Tip: The palette might contain more widgets than it can display. If this is the case, the palette uses pages to display the widgets. Use the next and previous page icons to navigate the pages.
Tip: The palette can display a description of each widget. You can open and close the description by clicking the description panel icon .
  3. Drag the widget onto the page. When you are dragging the widget, the palette closes and the cursor changes into a thumbnail of the widget. The page highlights the areas in which you can drop the widget.
Tip: If you are adding more than one widget to the page, click the pin icon to keep the palette open until you close it.
  4. Drop the widget. The widget opens where you dropped it.
  5. Some widgets display default content. Other widgets require you to configure them before they can display information that you want. To change the default content or to configure the widget, expand the widget menu and select Configure. For example, if you add the Web Site widget onto a page, the viewer displays a default Web page. You configure the page by providing the URL of the page you want in the widget's configuration fields.
  6. When you complete the configuration, click OK.
  7. To change the title of the widget, click its title. Type the new name and then press Enter. If you have multiple instances of the same widget, rename each instance so you can distinguish between them. The name should reflect the purpose of that particular instance.
