This topic discusses how you can use filtering capabilities to focus on a particular area of interest.
The Instances widget supports the filtering of data and the filtering of time periods.
Data filtering
A data filter is a filter that uses metrics based on the following filter types: numerical, time, duration, boolean, or string.
Each criterion in the data filter expression is defined by specifying a value or a range of values for the measure you select. The values for measures are based on the nature of each business measure. For example, a numeric business measure requires a numeric value and a logical operator.
A duration business measure requires an operator (for example, lessThan, or lessThanOrEquals) and a duration (the number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds).
Time period filtering
A time period filter uses only date and date/time metrics in a sliding interval, completed or current period, or fixed interval. You can set multiple metrics for the data filter but only one can be set for the time period filter. Both the data filter and the time period filter can be used at the same time or independently.
Filter criteria
You can specify filter criteria by using lists to choose the metric and operator, and pop-ups to specify a duration and time. You can also use menus to input values using the IN operator so that syntax is not a concern. The Boolean operator, OR, is represented by the IN operator. Validation occurs so that the correct input type matches the metric type.
You can filter resulting instances according to one or more data filter types. See "Supported filter types".
