After you create a process map, you can export and save it in a format that can be imported into WebSphere Business Modeler, where the process model can be refined and expanded for simulation or for deployment as an application.
Business Leader Process Map Element | WebSphere Business Modeler elements | Notes |
---|---|---|
Process map | Process | |
Activity with no sub-activities | Task | |
Activity with sub-activities | Local subprocess | |
Activity that calls another activity | Global process | |
Decision | Decision | |
Description (rich text) | Description (plain text) | |
Activity inputs and outputs | Business item | An input to an activity in the process map
becomes a business item that is associated with the input to the corresponding
task in WebSphere Business Modeler. Likewise, an activity output becomes
a business item that is associated with the corresponding task. A single business item is created per unique input or output string, even if multiple activities refer to the same input or output. The input of the first activity and the output of the last activity become the process input and output, respectively. Each output specified for a given activity is associated with an input connection to the following task. If the output of one activity does not match the input of the following activity, a map element will be created in WebSphere Business Modeler to transform the output into the format required for the input of the next activity in the process. |
Activity owner | Role | The owner of an activity is associated with
a new role in the WebSphere Business Modeler project. The role is
specified as a role requirement for the corresponding task. A single role is created per unique owner string, even if multiple activities refer to the same owner. |

Note that the sub-activities of the Post job activity have been grouped together in a local subprocess in the WebSphere Business Modeler process diagram. The following image is the expanded sub-process that you might see:
The inputs and outputs that you listed in the details view for each activity become business items, and the owners that are associated with each activity become roles in the WebSphere Business Modeler project.
