This SupportPac adds further enhancements to the CICS® TG plug-in for CICS Explorer™ (CICS TG plug-in):

System requirements and prerequisites

The CICS TG plug-in must be installed in the CICS Explorer V1.0.0.5.

CICS Transaction Gateway V7.1 for z/OS® with APAR PK57718.

CICS Transaction Gateway V7.1.0.2 for Multiplatforms, or a later version.

CH50 SupportPac installed in CICS (CICS TG Ping Utility).

You must define a statistics API protocol handler in the CICS Transaction Gateway, before a Gateway daemon can be viewed using the CICS Explorer.

The configuration file CTGConnections.properties, that was used in earlier versions of the SupportPac, is not used in this SupportPac and is ignored.

Updating an existing version of CICS TG plug-in

If you already have the CICS TG plug-in installed you can use the CICS Explorer Software Updates function to update the code to the latest level, without having to reinstall the product. Before updating the CICS TG plug-in, you must update the CICS Explorer to the latest level. If you do not, CICS TG plug-in might not work with the old version of CICS Explorer.

Updating instructions are in the task Checking for and installing software updates in the CICS Explorer help documentation. To access the task from the main CICS Explorer menu:

Help > Help Contents > CICS Explorer User Guide > Tasks > Updating and installing software > Checking for and installing software updates

If you accepted the license, the CICS TG plug-in is installed into the CICS Explorer. You are prompted to restart the CICS Explorer. This ensures that the CICS TG plug-in starts in a clean environment.

It is recommended that you reset the CICS TG plug-in perspective: Window > Reset Perspective and Click OK.

Downloading and installing the CICS TG plug-in SupportPac

To download the CICS TG plug-in from the download Web site:

  1. Right-click the CICS TG plug-in CS05 download link.
  2. Save the compressed file in a temporary directory. Do NOT extract the file. The CICS Explorer extracts the contents automatically.

To install the CICS TG plug-in in the CICS Explorer:

  1. Launch the CICS Explorer.
  2. Click Help on the CICS Explorer menu bar and click Software Updates in the drop-down menu. The Software Updates and Add-ons window is displayed.
  3. Click the Available Software tab.
  4. Click Add Site and in the Add Site dialog click Archive. The Repository archive dialog box is displayed.
  5. Locate and select the CICS TG plug-in compressed file you downloaded previously, and click Open.
  6. Click OK in the Add Site dialog box. The dialog box closes and the tool is displayed in the Software Updates and Add-ons dialog box.
  7. Select the check box alongside the tool name.
  8. Click Install.
  9. In the Install dialog box click Next to confirm the installation.
  10. Review the license agreement in the licenses folder and click the relevant radio button. Click Finish to complete the installation, or Cancel if you do not accept the license.

If you accepted the license, the CICS TG plug-in is installed into the CICS Explorer. You are prompted to restart the CICS Explorer. This ensures that the plug-in starts in a clean environment.

Getting started

When the CICS Explorer restarts the CICS Explorer perspective is displayed. To open the CICS TG plug-in perspective, click the Open Perspective, click Other, and click CICS TG.

If you are not familiar with CICS Transaction Gateway you can read the Getting Started information in the help documentation. Click Help > Help Contents > CICS TG Plug-in Users Guide > Basic Tutorial to display the basic tutorial for theCICS TG plug-in.
