Disabling and discarding a platform

Disable a platform to make it temporarily unavailable. If you no longer require a platform, disable and discard it.

Before you begin

Before you discard a platform, you must first disable and discard all the installed applications in the platform, but you do not need to delete the application definitions (APPLDEF resources). For instructions to disable and discard applications, see Disabling and discarding an application.

Before you discard a platform, you must also shut down the CICS® regions that are active in the platform. To shut down a CICS region, in the Regions view, right-click the CICS region and select Shutdown. Refresh the Regions view and confirm that the status of the region is INACTIVE. Alternatively, shut down the CICS region using CICSPlex® SM or CICS commands.

You can disable a platform while applications are still installed in the platform, and while CICS regions are active in the platform.

About this task

When you disable or discard a platform, all the CICS bundles that were deployed with the platform are also disabled or discarded. You can remove an individual CICS bundle that was deployed with the platform, without disabling or discarding the platform. For instructions to do this, see Removing a CICS bundle from a platform.

Procedure

  1. Open the CICS Cloud perspective. The Cloud Explorer view shows the current status of the platform. If you also want to check the status of the CICS bundles for the platform in the CICS regions, in the CICS Explorer® menu bar, click Window > Show View > Other > CICS SM Operations > Bundles to open the Bundles view.
  2. In the Cloud Explorer view, locate the installed platform in the Platform hierarchy.
  3. To disable the platform, right-click the platform name and select Disable, then click OK to confirm. CICSPlex SM disables the CICS bundles for the platform in the CICS regions, and disables the platform. Refresh the Cloud Explorer view, and check the platform status. If a status other than Disabled is shown for the platform, see Checking the status of a platform for more information and suggested actions.
  4. To discard the platform, you must disable it first, as described in Step 3. You must also disable and discard all the installed applications, as described in Disabling and discarding an application, and shut down all the CICS regions that are active in the platform. When the platform is disabled, all the installed applications are discarded, and the CICS regions are shut down, right-click the platform name and select Discard, then click OK to confirm. CICSPlex SM discards the CICS bundles for the platform in the CICS regions, and discards the platform. When you refresh the Cloud Explorer view, instead of the platform name, you see the name of the platform definition (PLATDEF). The Platform hierarchy no longer displays the applications that were installed in the platform, but the application definitions (APPLDEF) can be found in the Application hierarchy.

Results

The platform is disabled or discarded, and all CICS bundles that were installed with the platform bundle are also disabled or discarded.
