IBM MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS, efix version 1

What is an efix?

An efix is an emergency fix provided by IBM to customers with a problem for which they cannot wait until an official PTF is available.

Efixes are built by developers on their own systems, and have gone through some basic testing by the developer. Since efixes do not go through the test suites that full releases do, there is always a risk for regressions and introduction of new problems. The customer should be aware of this fact, and take it into consideration when choosing to install any efix.

About this readme file

This readme file corresponds to the PTF U200194.

If  this README file is updated, the updated file will be available via the Support mechanism for MQSI Agent for CICS.

About this efix

This efix provides critical usability fixes to the MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Adapter Builder.

This efix does not impact the run time component of MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Transaction Server (APAR PQ50194, PTF UQ55583).

All users of the MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Transaction Server Adapter Builder version 1.1.1, (defined as PTF U200165 and numbered 01), should upgrade to this new efix level.

The usability corrections contained in the efix are described below.

Subscripted access to array elements

The ESQL and the COBOL generation function have been fixed so that they correctly support subscripted access of fields in an array during mapping operations and conditional expressions.

Location information of the last import directory is maintained

When you click Browse on the Source Information Panel of the Cobol Language Message Importer dialog, the directory list is set to the directory of the most recent import for the selected message set, rather than the default WINNT\Profiles\User directory.

In addition, after the message has been imported, the Cobol Language Message Importer dialog will remain open until the user clicks Cancel.

This fix will expedite the process of importing multiple messages into a Message set since messages will often reside in the same source directory or file.

Support for connecting to host via CICS Transaction Gateway

The ability to import screens via the CICS Transaction Gateway (CTG) as an alternative to connecting to a host via TCP IP is now supported.

The applicable CICS Transaction Gateway connection properties are contained on the 3270 Session Attributes tab of the 3270 Message Set. For descriptions of these properties and their associated values, refer to the Message Sets section of MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Help.

Note: There are many different configuration options for connecting a CICS Transaction Gateway to a CICS Transaction Server. For assistance, refer to the CICS Transaction Gateway Configuration Guides. MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS does not support the displaying of security pop-up windows from the CICS Transaction Gateway. The CICSCLI /C /U /P command and options can be used to prevent the CICS Transaction Gateway from attempting to display these security pop-up windows.

Support for removing all previously defined 3270 element qualifiers

A button that allows you to automatically remove all screen qualifiers has been added to the 3270 Element Qualifier Selection panel.

This will alleviate the time consuming task of removing the screen qualifiers manually.

Support for disabling Automatic Element Qualifier generation

A check box has been added to the 3270 Screen Importer panel to disable the automatic creation of qualifiers during a screen import operation. When automatic creation is disabled, the user will be directed to the 3270 Element Qualifier Selection panel after import (as is done currently when no fields are identified as automatic qualifiers) to manually select screen qualifiers. When the automatic qualifier option is not selected, the user will still have the option to go to the 3270 Element Qualifier Selection panel to adjust the identifiers as necessary, including the option described in the item above.

Icon usage to identify element qualifiers

The list of screen elements on the 3270 Element Qualifier Selection panel now contains an icon as well as the element name so that one can easily distinguish those elements that have been chosen as qualifiers, from those that have not.

Online help updates

The online help has been updated to:

Correct XML attribute minOccurs on Cobol Message Import

The minOccurs XML attribute for each element created via the Cobol Message Import operation will now have a default setting of an empty string. Previously, a value of 1 was being set by default for all elements created via a Cobol Message Import operation. This caused the name of these elements to appear in the color red when viewed in a mapping node.

Note: The fix to the XML attribute minOccurs will apply only to those message fields imported after the implementation of this efix. Those message fields imported prior to the implementation of this change will remain the color red. The fact that these previously imported fields remain red, does not impact functionality.

Adding appropriate suffix to imported 3270 screens

Any Types that are created from a 3270 screen import operation will now have their name end with _Type in order to distinguish these resources from the Messages themselves.

Note: Only Types imported after the implementation of this efix will be corrected. Types imported prior to the implementation of this change will not have the _Type suffix. The fact that these previously imported Types will not have the _Type suffix, does not impact functionality.

COBOL Message Importer fixes

The COBOL Message Importer has been fixed to support the following:

  1. The selection of group data structures other than 01 levels in the Group Level panel of the COBOL Language Message Importer dialog.
  2. COPY statements within an imported data structure (nested copybooks)

What's in this README

This README file shows you how to apply the efix detailed above.

Applying the efix

You must have a previous version of the Adapter Builder installed, the setup.exe will upgrade all applicable file structures to the latest versions. The data that is associated with any adapter created with a previous version of the Adapter Builder will remain intact.

To apply the efix, perform the following steps:

  1. Access the MQSI Agent for CICS efix Setup.exe file:

    Efix download site

  2. Download the file to a temporary directory on the computer where the supported version of IBM MQSI Agent for CICS is installed.
  3. Verify that you have the correct version of IBM MQSI Agent for CICS installed.
  4. Exit the MQSI Agent for CICS application.

  5. Run the Setup.exe program that you downloaded in step #1.

Proceed through the installation wizard until it completes.

Build time templates and the efix

An updated version of the DFHMAN06 build time template will be installed in the INSTALL_DIRECTORY/templates folder as part of this efix. This template is NOT one of the templates described as needing customization by the host system administrator in both the MQSI Agent for CICS Using the Control Center documentation and the MQSI Agent for CICS Run Time User's Guide. The efix version of the DFHMAN06 build time template is required to successfully generate adapters after you install the efix.

Removing the efix

You can remove the efix by using one of the following two methods:

Using the Add/Remove programs - Windows 2000 client only

From the Add/Remove programs option from the Control Panel:

  1. Ensure to select efix 1 for IBM MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Transaction Server.
  2. Press the Remove button
  3. Proceed through the uninstall wizard until it completes
  4. Ensure to select IBM MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Transaction Server
  5. Press Change
  6. Ensure to select the Repair option while proceeding through the maintenance wizard until completion

Using the Setup.exe to remove the efix

While re-running the Setup.exe program that was downloaded in step #1 of Applying the efix:

  1. Ensure to select the Remove option while proceeding through the maintenance wizard until completion
  2. Insert the original Installation CD for IBM MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS TS version 1.1.1
  3. Run the Setup.exe (if it does not start automatically)
  4. Ensure to select the Repair option while proceeding through the maintenance wizard until completion.
