Supported mobile device protocols, languages, and character sets

Use the following sections for information about support provided by IBM® Mobile Portal Accelerator for device protocols, languages, and character sets.

Mobile device protocols

Mobile Portal Accelerator supports various mobile device protocols.

Supported devices

Mobile Portal Accelerator was tested with:

The device repository contains a comprehensive set of over 10,000 device profiles.

Languages

The Mobile Portal Accelerator product is available in English only. However, the product does not actually interpret the contents of text objects and renders most language fonts correctly depending on device limitations. For bidirectional languages, while text characters are rendered correctly, the correct formatting of those bidirectional characters is not supported.

Character sets used for handling HTTP requests

Multi-Channel Server (MCS) determines which character set are used for handling HTTP requests and responses for a mobile device. MCS uses the following algorithm to determine the character set for a device:

  1. If the output.charset.forced device attribute is set for the device, then the configured character set is used.
  2. If the first condition is not true, and if the device specifies which character sets it supports in the Accept-Charset HTTP header, then MCS selects the highest priority character set that it supports.
  3. If neither (1) or (2) is true, then MCS uses the character set specified by the output.charset.default device attribute.

You can use the device repository editor available with the Mobile Portal Toolkit to modify the output.charset.forced or output.charset.default device attribute values if the default settings are not appropriate for your environment and devices.

Note: The character sets configured for the XDIME markup in WebSphere® Portal are not used.
