Manage Mobile Pages portlet

The Manage Mobile Pages portlet enables portal administrators to create the navigation hierarchy for mobile devices.

Overview

The Manage Mobile Pages portlet is a design-time portlet for portal administrators to create mobile portal style navigation. The mobile portal navigation tree is stored in the navigation of WebSphere® Portal and consists of pages, URLs and portlets. At runtime, the XDIME aggregator displays the navigation created by the Manage Mobile Pages portlet. Manage Mobile Pages also supports the configuration of extended properties for each page, URL, and portlet and lets you define the use of preload notices in the navigation.
When you create a page or URL that supports XDIME markup, the page or URL's title will be displayed on mobile devices. Where the title is displayed depends on which navigation view is being used by a mobile device. Keep in mind that most mobile devices have very little screen space. Therefore, do not use long titles for navigation nodes that are displayed on mobile devices. If you define navigation nodes that apply to mobile devices as well as PC browsers, you can use the Extended Properties portlet to configure a short title for the page or URL. The XDIME aggregator will display the short title on mobile devices and the HTML aggregator will display the page or URL's (long) title on PC browsers.
Note: See the following topics for more information:
  • Extended Properties portlet and Using extended properties to display device dependent navigation for more information on using short titles
  • Character limitations for the list of characters that should not be included in titles
  • Designing preload notices for information on placement of a preload notice in a page

Manage Mobile Pages displays all pages, labels, and URLs for which the current user has a User or greater role. The functions available also depend upon the user's level of access.

Note: Although labels can be manipulated by Manage Mobile Pages, they are not displayed by the XDIME aggregator. In addition, Manage Mobile Pages will not allow you to create labels under pages that support only the XDIME markup.

Navigation tree

The navigation tree area displays the portal navigation hierarchy. Pages, labels, and URLs (referred to as navigation nodes or just nodes) are displayed in the tree. The navigation tree buttons allow the administrator to manipulate the navigation tree. These buttons allow the administrator to create and render nodes.

The administrator can also filter the tree and search for nodes by title, description, last modified, or unique name. Using the filter capability, the administrator can view the navigation tree based on specific markup types. When the tree is filtered, the navigation tree shows only the nodes that meet the filter criteria.

To expand a branch, click the solid box preceding the title. To collapse a branch, click the hollow box preceding the title.

To select a node, click the title. When a node is selected, its properties are summarized in the sections of the preview area and the administrator can perform node-level operations on it. Node operations include edit properties, edit extended properties, edit layout, create preload notice, delete preload notice, assign permissions, activate, deactivate, delete, export, and move.

Preview information

By default, the summary sections of Manage Mobile Pages includes the base node properties, Preload Notice information, the display preferences (extended properties), the device requirements (extended properties), and a list of portlets (if the node is a page). The preview sections can be selected from the configuration page accessible from the configure icon in the Manage Mobile Pages portlet title bar.
