This README file contains information about IBM DB2 High Performance Unload. In this README file, the following naming convention applies: IBM DB2 High Performance Unload for Multiplatforms and IBM DB2 High Performance Unload for Workgroups are abbreviated to DB2 High Performance Unload. IBM DB2 High Performance Unload has been tested and validated with all supported releases of DB2 Universal Database(TM) through Version 8.2 Subsequent releases might require additional maintenance. 1.1 Evaluation Code If you are using evaluation code, the evaluation code enables you to try this product for a period of 60 days. After 60 days, you must purchase a license to continue to use the product. When you purchase the product, the license is enforced based upon the platform on which you are running IBM DB2 High Performance Unload for Multiplatforms. Read NOTICES Section 8.1, Use of Evaluation Code and the License Agreement provided with your evaluation copy of the program. 2.0 CORRECTED KNOWN PROBLEMS This Fix Pack contains corrections for the following problems: APAR PK31090 - DB2 High Performance Unload displays very poor performance when running against remote partitions and setting ON CURRENT HOST. APAR PK30730 - When multiple HPU unloads are run under script control, intermittent hangs can occur. APAR PK31458 - When unloading tablespace using backup database, the unload fails with: INZU366I HPU return code 16 (reason code 0x112c001). APAR PK31194 - HPU Unload receives segmentation violation when the hostname is not included in the DB2NODES.CFG APAR PK31624 - Running the fast unload plugin in the DB2 Control Center results in INZG416E. APAR PK32520 - HPU V3111 does not unload all partitions when using the database alias. APAR PK34790 - DB2 fails with SQL3054N when loading an IXF file created by DB2 High Performance Unload. APAR PK35240 - Unload from backup returns INZU473E INIT RC2041. APAR PK35509 - HPU unloads data successfully but posts INZU366I return code 16 (reason code 0x280c004), and leaves the tablespace(s) in quiesce-share mode. 2.1 Additional corrected problems: - A failure occurs if the DB2 instance used has both remote partitions and gaps between partition numbers. - INZU398I message is generated when no data from local partitions are unloaded. - Connection errors occur when QUIESCE YES and/or LOCK YES clauses are used. - Bad support of switch networks when specified in the db2nodes.cfg file. - Unload hangs when the message queues default size is too small. - Unload continues even if an error occurs while executing QUIESCE/LOCK operations. - Remote LOB and XML data is badly unloaded when retrieved locally. 3.0 PREREQUISITES To install this fix pack, you must have DB2 High Performance Unload for Multiplatforms V3.1 or DB2 High Performance Unload for Workgroups V3.1 installed. DB2 High Performance Unload has hardware and software requirements. For complete details, please see Chapter 2 in the DB2 High Performance Unload User's Guide (SC27-1623). http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2imstools/db2tools-library.html 3.1 Hardware Requirements DB2 High Performance Unload has the same hardware requirements as the DB2 server it is supporting. Depending upon options selected, High Performance Unload will require up to 42 megabytes of disk space plus approximately an additional 30 megabytes of temporary disk space during installation. 3.2 Software Requirements To use IBM DB2 High Performance Unload, you must have a supported version of DB2 installed. To use the table partition feature, you must have DB2 Version 9 APAR LI71495 installed. LI71495 is scheduled to be included in DB2 V9 Fix Pack 2. 4.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 4.1 Installation Instructions for Windows(TM) Before installing this fix pack, you must first stop the HPU network service if it is installed and running on your system. To do this, go to: Start -> Control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Scroll down to the entry for "HPU for DB2 for network service V3". If this entry exists and its status is "Started", then right-click it and click Stop in the popup menu. DB2 High Performance Unload for Windows uses a GUI installation tool. To install High Performance Unload for Windows, complete the following tasks: 1. Log into the Windows system where High Performance Unload is to be installed using the built-in administrator id. 2. Copy or move the High Performance Unload .zip file into a directory that has at least 70 megabytes of available space. 3. Unzip the file. It will extract 4 files into the current directory. 4. Launch the High Performance Unload install by running the setup.exe program. 5. Follow the instructions in the panels. We recommend the 'typical' install. If you wish to do a 'custom' install, choose one or more of the following options: DB2 High Performance Unload Base: Required. The base High Performance Unload functionality DB2 Network Support: The High Performance Unload daemon, required for communication between partitions in a DB2 DPF environment and with the DB2 Control Center Plugin DB2 Control Center Plugin: Provides GUI support through the DB2 Control Center. If you choose this option, you must also choose the other two options. 4.2 Installation Instructions for non-Windows Systems DB2 High Performance Unload uses a GUI installation tool in an X Windows(TM) environment. There are several other ways you can install the product if your server does not have a directly attached, high-function terminal (HFT) capable of displaying X Windows screens: - You can use a remote terminal or system by telneting into the server and setting the DISPLAY environment variable on the server to use the remote terminal's display. - Another option is to install in console mode. Exceptions or changes to the install tasks if you are using console mode are noted within the following directions. - A third option is to create a response file and do a silent install. See "DB2 High Performance Unload User's Guide," available at the following Web location, for a description on how to create a response file: http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2imstools/library.html To install High Performance Unload, complete the following tasks: 1. Log into the system where High Performance Unload is to be installed as a user with root authority. 2. Verify and change if necessary the umask to 022. umask displays current umask setting umask 022 sets umask for current session 3. Verify that X applications can use the desired display. (This step is not necessary if you are using console mode. ) echo $DISPLAY shows the current DISPLAY variable setting export DISPLAY=hostname:0 set DISPLAY if incorrect. Hostname is the name of the system whose screen is to be used. xclock& verifies that X applications can display correctly. You can close the clock display after it appears. 4. Copy or move the High Performance Unload tar file (XXXXXXX.tar.gz) into a directory which has at least 140 megabytes of available space. 5. Untar the file. It will extract 4 files into the current directory. gunzip -c XXXXXXX.tar.gz | tar -xvf - 6. Launch the High Performance Unload install by running the setup program: AIX -> ./setupaix Linux for pSeries -> ./setuplinuxppc Linux -> ./setuplinux Solaris -> ./setupsun If you are using Console Mode, add the following parameter: ./setupXXX -is:javaconsole -console where XXX equals the platform. At the terminal where you entered this command, you should see a series of dots showing that the installation program is initializing and running. Eventually, the first installation panel should appear, or if in console mode, the first prompt. 7. Follow the instructions in the panels or prompts. Using a typical install is recommended. If you want to do a 'custom' install, choose one or more of the following options: DB2 High Performance Unload Base: Required. The base High Performance Unload functionality DB2 Network Support: The High Performance Unload daemon, required for communication between partitions in a DB2 EEE environment, and High Performance Unload and its DB2 Control Center plugin. DB2 Control Center plugin (available only on Linux for xSeries): Provides GUI support through the DB2 Control Center. If you choose this option, you must also choose the other two options. 8. After the install completes, you must sign off of your login session, then log in again. 9. The following actions are optional. You might want to change the ownership of the configuration directory and all the files contained within it to your Database Administrator staff so that changes can be made by the DBAs without requiring the assistance of the system's support group. In addition to the configuration file itself, in the future you could be requested by IBM Service to modify a special trace control file in this directory for problem determination. For example, to change ownership to the ownerid of 'mydba' and the group 'dbagroup', use the following command : chown -R mydba:dbagroup XXXXX/cfg where XXXXX is your install directory 5.0 CUSTOMIZATION INSTRUCTIONS For complete instructions on how to customize and use DB2 High Performance Unload, refer to IBM DB2 High Performance Unload for Multiplatforms User's Guide.
