This README file contains information about IBM DB2 High Performance Unload. IBM DB2 High Performance Unload (HPU) has been tested and validated with all supported releases of DB2 Universal Database(TM) through Version 8 Release 1. Subsequent releases might require additional maintenance. 1.1 Evaluation code If you are using evaluation code, the evaluation code enables you to try this product for a period of 60 days. After 60-days, you must purchase a license to continue to use the product. When you purchase the product, the license is enforced based upon the platform on which you are running IBM DB2 High Performance Unload for Multiplatforms. Read NOTICES Section 8.1, USE OF EVALUATION CODE, and the License Agreement provided with your evaluation copy of the program. 1.2 Corrected known problems This FixPak contains the following corrections: -When running on DB2 Version 8, files may be missing from some of the subdirectories under $TOPHPU. -When enclosing column names in double quotes in a SELECT statement, the data will not be unloaded correctly. -In some cases, HPU leaves the table space in a QUIESCE SHARE state. -Incorrect IXF fields. -User name improperly propagated. -Incorrect handling of alias name for database. To obtain a list of fixes that were included in previous FixPaks, refer to APARs PQ68645, PQ68647, PQ68648, PQ68644, PQ68649, PQ66166, PQ66960, PQ66961, PQ66958, PQ66962, PQ66202, and PQ66200. 2.0 PREREQUISITES DB2 High Performance Unload has hardware and software requirements. For complete details, please see Chapter 2 in the DB2 HPU User's Guide (SC27-1623). http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2imstools/db2tools-library.html 2.1 Hardware requirements DB2 High Performance Unload for Multiplatforms has the following hardware requirements: DB2 HPU has the same hardware requirements as the DB2 server it is supporting. Depending upon options selected, HPU will require up to 42 Meg of disk space plus approximately an additional 30 Meg of temporary disk space during install. 2.2 Software requirements To use IBM DB2 High Performance Unload for Multiplatforms, you must have a supported version of DB2 installed. 3.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 3.1 Installation Instructions for Windows(TM) DB2 High Performance Unload for Windows uses a GUI installation tool. To install HPU for Windows, complete the following tasks: 1. Log in to the Windows system where HPU is to be installed using the built-in administrator id. 2. Copy or move the HPU zip file into some directory which has at least 70 megabytes of freespace. 3. Unzip the file. It will create a directory structure under the current directory which starts with the subdirectory name 'default'. 4. Open a command window and change into the subdirectory containing the setup.exe file. cd default\disk1 5. Launch the HPU install by running the setup.exe program. 6. Follow the instructions in the panels. We recommend 'typical' install. If you wish to do a 'custom' install, choose one or more of the following options: DB2 HPU Base : Required. The base HPU functionality. DB2 Network Support : The HPU daemon, required for communication between partitions in a DB2 EEE environment, and with the DB2 Control Center plugin. DB2 Control Center plugin : Provides GUI support through the DB2 Control Center. If you choose this option, be sure to also choose the DB2 Network Support option. 3.2 Installation Instructions for Non-Windows Systems DB2 High Performance Unload normally uses a GUI installation tool. It must be installed in an X Windows(TM) environment. If your server does not have a directly attached high function terminal (HFT) capable of displaying X Windows screens, you can use a remote terminal or system by telneting into the server and setting the DISPLAY environment variable on the server to use the remote terminal's display. Another option is to run InstallShield using Console Mode. Exceptions or changes to the install tasks if you are using Console Mode are noted within the following directions. To install HPU, complete the following tasks: 1. Log in to the system where HPU is to be installed as a user with root authority. 2. Verify and change if necessary the umask to 022. umask <-- Displays current umask setting umask 022 <-- Sets umask for current session 3. Verify that X applications can use the desired display. ( This step is not needed if your are running Console Mode. ) echo $DISPLAY <-- shows the current DISPLAY variable setting export DISPLAY=hostname:0 <-- set DISPLAY if incorrect. hostname is for the system whose screen is to be used. xclock& <-- verifies that X applications can display correctly. You can close the clock display after it appears. 4. Copy or move the HPU tar file into a directory which has at least 70 megabytes of freespace. 5. Untar the file. It will create a directory structure under the current directory which starts with the subdirectory name 'db2hpu'. gunzip -c db2hpuXXX-NNN.tar.gz | tar -xvf - Where XXX equals the VRM and NNN equals the platform. 6. Change into the subdirectory containing the setup file. cd db2hpu/default/disk1 7. Launch the HPU install by running the setup program. AIX -> ./setupaix HP-UX -> ./setuphpux Linux -> ./setuplnx Solaris -> ./setupsun If you are using Console Mode, add the following parameter: ./setupNNN -is:javaconsole -console Where NNN equals the platform. At the terminal where you entered this command, you should see a series of dots showing that the installation program is initializing and running. Eventually, the first installation panel should appear, or if in Console Mode, the first prompt. 8. Follow the instructions in the panels or prompts. We recommend using a 'typical' install. If you wish to do a 'custom' install, choose one or more of the following options: DB2 HPU Base : Required. The base HPU functionality. DB2 Network Support : The HPU daemon, required for communication between partitions in a DB2 EEE environment, and HPU and its DB2 Control Center plugin. DB2 Control Center plugin : Provides GUI support through the DB2 Control Center. If you choose this option, be sure to also choose the DB2 Network Support option. 9. After the install completes, you need to sign off your login session and log in again for the environment variable change to take effect. The new environment variable $TOPHPU gets defined in /etc/profile. 3.2.1 Uninstall Instructions for Non-Windows Systems As root, stop the daemon, change into the $TOPHPU/_uninst directory, and launch the uninstaller. db2hpud stop cd $TOPHPU/_uninst ./uninstaller.bin For Console Mode, the command is : ./uninstaller.bin -is:javaconsole -console 4.0 RESTRICTIONS Applies to all platforms: -Maximum performance will be achieved when unloading all rows from a table. DB2 EXPORT will be invoked automatically if on the SELECT statement, you specify a WHERE clause. This is a temporary restriction. -Unload from backup is supported except for from a backup of a DMS tablespace which has LOB or Long columns. This is a temporary restriction. -If specifying column names in the SELECT statement, just list the column names and do not enclose them in double quotes. It will be fixed in a future FixPak. -It is still possible in some rare cases, that HPU may leave the table space in a QUIESCE SHARE state. If this happens, you need to issue a QUIESCE RESET. If using db2hpu in a script, just include this DB2 command at the end of the script. Applies only to Solaris and HP-UX: -For DB2 Version 8, this FixPak may not install properly and files may be missing from some of the subdirectories under $TOPHPU. Before applying this FixPak in a DB2 version 8 environment It is suggested that you copy or tar up the $TOPHPU directory and its contents prior to installing this FixFak. You can create the tar file with the following command : tar -cvf savehpu.tar $TOPHPU The resulting tar file (savehpu.tar) will take about 58 Meg. This problem will be fixed in a future FixPak. 5 .0 CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENTATION To obtain the latest refresh of DB2 High Performance Unload publications refer to: http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2imstools/library.html 6.0 SERVICE For a complete and up-to-date source of DB2 High Performance Unload information, including information on issues discovered after this README was published, go the to following website: DB2 High Performance Unload Online Support: http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2imstools/support.html If you are not able to find your answer searching the listed URL, call 1-800-IBM-SERV to speak to an IBM representative for assistance. 7.0 NOTICES This information was developed for products and services offered in the U.S.A.
