Configuring the Sync Server to access data sources

This topic provides an overview of the configuration tasks that you perform before you can create a JDBC driver in the Mobile Device Administration Center and synchronize with data on a data source.

Prerequisites

For JDBC subscriptions the drivers in Table 1 are supported.

Restrictions

For DB2 on iSeries:
- Due to DB2 on iSeries locking semantics, we support limited concurrent source DELETE operations. If a transaction contains a DELETE operation, the transacation should not rollback if overlapping with replication. If it is rolled back, the subscription will need to be deleted and recreated to restore integrity.
- The table and row lock wait times of the subscribed tables must be set to a high number for the Sync Server to avoid timing out when waiting for such locks.
For Sybase:
- During replication, if a database application changes data in the source database during replication and the changes conflict with replication, the conflicting changes from mobile devices are rejected and the following error message from Sybase is logged:

com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybSQLException: Your server command 
 (family id #0, process id #30) encountered a deadlock situation.
  Please re-run your command. 
```
- The primary keys of a subscribed table may not be updated in the same statement as the non-primary keys.
For SQL Server
- The table and row lock wait times of the subscribed tables must be set to a high number for the Sync Server to avoid timing out when waiting for such locks.
- The primary keys of a subscribed table may not be updated in the same statement as the non-primary keys.

Procedure

To configure the Sync Server using supported JDBC drivers:

add the JDBC driver class path to a Sync Server configuration file,dsysetjavahome.bat)
Lotus Domino only: perform additional configuration steps in Configuring the JDBC driver to access Lotus Domino data
specify the JDBC driver in the Mobile Device Administration Center
