This document describes the minimum platform requirements for the FileNet P8 2.0.1x Business Process Manager (BPM), Content Manager (CM), and Web Content Manager (WCM) product release. It also defines the minimum supported levels of third-party software components. In general, you can install and run with more current patch releases, service packs or minor releases if they are forward-compatible. The information in this document takes precedence over any requirements stated elsewhere. Except as noted, the minimum hardware requirements for FileNet P8 components are met by the minimum hardware requirements for the operating systems and browsers.

The Content Engine and Process Engine can share a SQL Server 2000 or Oracle
database server. Oracle 9.2.0.3 must be applied to both the client and server.
As defined in the Oracle 9.2.0.3 installation instructions, an Oracle patch
must also be installed to complete the 9.2.0.3 installation.
FileNet supports the version of the JDK that is installed with an application server. All subsequent minor versions will be supported when they are supported by an application server vendor.
Alternate JDKs, such as WebLogic JRocket are not supported.
JRE 1.4.0 is required for all P8 Platform Java applets. The Application Engine installer bundles this and downloads it to the client, if it is not present.
FileNet supports the version of the JDK that is installed with the application server. All later service packs will be supported when they are supported by the application server vendor. Alternate JDKs, such as JRocket, are not supported.

JRE 1.4 is bundled in Content Engine and Process Engine server installers except for the Process Engine UNIX platform. You must install the JRE before trying to install Process Engine or setup will fail.
Custom applications developed with the Content Java API and Process Java API are supported on operating systems that support the following JDKs:
The P8 Platform supports configurations that separate HTTP servers from application servers. Hardware-based solutions, such as Cisco routers, can be used to build a web farm of HTTP servers.
The Application Engine supports both hardware- and software-based load balancing. Some example choices are:
NOTE WCM cannot be deployed in a web farm.
In addition to web farms, Content Engine can be load balanced in a farm environment using third-party farm software or hardware. Rendition Engine provides its own multi-server support mechanism for scalability. Additional plug-in boxes are required when more Rendition Engine boxes are added.
The core P8 Platform components (Application Engine, Content Engine, Process Engine, and Rendition Engine) can be collocated on the same Windows 2000 server using SQL Server 2000. Any of the supported application servers can be used. Note that a single machine setup is not a typical production deployment scenario, but could be appropriate for development and some demo scenarios.
Content Engine and Process Engine can share the same SQL Server 2000 or Oracle servers. Content Engine and Process Engine support default and named instances of SQL 2000 for both local and remote databases.
The WCM Server can be collocated with the Application Engine.
For a list of recommended configurations, refer to the Configuration section in the Installation Guide.
Clients You Can Collocate | Services You Cannot Collocate | Databases You can Collocate |
---|---|---|
The P8 WCM client can be collocated with the WCM 5.1 client. | P8 Platform Engines cannot be collocated with any FileNet-based services including IS, CS, Workflo Services, and Web Services. | Oracle databases for Process Engine, Content Engine, eProcess Workflow servers and IS (full installs) can be collocated on a remote server providing there are separate Oracle instances. |
IDM Desktop and Web Services 3.2 thick and thin clients (except Application Integration controls) can be collocated with Workplace and custom P8 Platform applications. The same is true for Open Client. | ||
Web Services 3.2 Application Integration controls can be collocated with Workplace Application Integration controls. |
