This readme provides the following information for the 3.2.0a and 3.2.0b releases of IDM Desktop, Web Services, and Open Client:
Before installing or upgrading, be sure to review the latest version of this readme along with the other documents, listed below, that are maintained on the FileNet CSS web site:
In addition, go to the FileNet CSS web site for the Capture and Process Compatibility & Dependency information.
After opening a document from the CSS web site, you can save a local copy.
For a list of the documentation supplied with IDM Desktop, see the topic "About documentation" in the IDM Desktop Help (idmdsktp.hlp). If you are upgrading from an earlier release, see the Help files for information on new features in the release. You can review the new features, the installation procedures, and other documentation from the CD before installing the software. The Help files are on the CD in the \Docs folder and are installed with the software. After installation you can access Help by pressing Start -> Programs -> FileNET Panagon IDM -> Help for Users, Help for Administrators, and Help for Developers.
Information on the 3.2 Panagon Toolkit, which has programming information for both Web Services and IDM Desktop, is contained in the Help for Developers (idmsdk.hlp). The Help for Developers is copied to an IDM Desktop workstation during installation if you select and install the optional Developer Files in Setup. The Help for Developers is always installed with Web Services. This Help file contains reference information for the IDM objects' methods, properties, and events, as well as descriptions of the object model and "Working with..." examples. You can open the file from the Start menu to have access to all topics, or, from within Visual Basic you can use the F1 key to access the context-sensitive reference information.
The HTML Samples application is provided on the Web Services CD and can be installed on your web server. For detailed information on the sample application, refer to the Help for Developers.
IDM Desktop is delivered on a single CD. Likewise, Web Services is delivered on a single CD.
The Web Services CD includes web server software and all of the supported web clients: HTML Samples, ActiveX Client, Open Client, and Web Services Application Integration. The CD has three folders for the Activex Client options ( \FnControls, \viewer, and \viewer2) and a folder (\OfficeIntegration) for Web Services Application Integration. Web users can install the web client software from the web server, directly from the CD, or from a file server. See the Web Administrator's Help for details. The Web Services CD also includes the \OpenClient directory. The Open Client is an optional addition to Web Services, and eProcess for Open Client is an optional addition to Open Client. Except for Open Client, all client packages require downloads.
Both CDs include an \Acrobat folder, from which you can install Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0. Alternatively, you can download the free 5.0 Acrobat Reader from the Adobe web site. If installed, the reader runs as an IDM Viewer plug-in and provides improved display of PDF documents.
Exit from all programs including virus protection programs before installing or upgrading FileNet software.
If you are installing from a network drive, map the network drive so Help can be accessed from Setup.
Reboot immediately before and immediately after any installation or upgrade. The reboot after an installation or upgrade registers the new DLLs. This can take several minutes. Please be patient and wait for the registration to complete.
During an installation or upgrade, the MDAC installation installs or upgrades the ODBC core, but because files may be locked, the ODBC files are not committed and registered until after a reboot. A message may appear telling you to reinstall ODBC components. You can ignore this warning and press OK to complete the installation. After you reboot, the ODBC components will be registered.
You must configure an ODBC Data Source for each CS server; IDM Configure no longer does this for you.
Preference files created in 3.1 (or any earlier version) cannot be imported after installing or upgrading to the 3.2.0 software.
See the Web Administrator's Help for information on installing and upgrading Web Services, ActiveX Client, HTML Samples, and Web Services Application Integration. See the Open Client Administrator’s Help for information on installing Open Client.
The upgrade process supports upgrades from 3.1.0 (any patch level) with the exception of Web Services Application Integration. You must uninstall previous versions of Web Services Application Integration, and then re-install the current version.
During the installation of Web Services, if you click on the Help button, an error message may appear saying the system cannot locate the Help file admin_w.hlp. If this occurs, use the Browse button on the message dialog to locate the file, which is in the root directory of the CD.
Silent installation facilities are provided for installing and upgrading the three ActiveX Client packages.
As of Februrary 2003, Microsoft stopped distributing the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (VM) in Windows XP. The VM is required for ActiveX Client, Web Services Application Integration, and Open Client's IDM Viewer. Users of these client applications on Windows XP may need to install the Microsoft VM (Java Virtual Machine), which runs in Internet Explorer. You can download the VM from the FileNet CSS web site. It is no longer available from Microsoft.
To download and install the Microsoft JVM, if needed for Windows XP
Silent installation facilities are provided for installing and upgrading IDM Desktop. We recommend that you remove your Oracle ODBC configuration prior to upgrade.
IDM Desktop platforms are qualified with and without a browser installed.
If you use the Notes-based Panagon Integration Administration database, the database path and filename must be "<root Notes data subdirectory>\FileNETNotesPanagonIntegration\NPIAdmin.Nsf". The template for this database is available in the IDM Desktop installation path (and in the \Maintenace folder on the software CD). If you copy the file from the CD, you must remove the read-only file attribute in order to create and save data in the database.
IDM Desktop includes the following third-party products:
An IDM Desktop upgrade installs IDM Desktop 3.2.0 without requiring that you manually uninstall the old software first. During the upgrade, you will be asked to uninstall the previous version of the CS client libraries, which include any Oracle database client files that may have been installed for IDM Desktop 3.1. We recommend that you elect this option. However, by doing so, the upgrade process will also remove your ODBC settings for Oracle. Upon reboot, you will need to install the Oracle client libraries and reconfigure your Oracle ODBC settings. See the IDM Desktop Administrator’s Help (and the patch readme for patch 8 or later) for more information on installing the Oracle client libraries and reconfiguring the Oracle ODBC settings.
Delete the ODBC Data Sources before uninstalling IDM Desktop. FR 47417
SMS 2.0 can be used to install IDM Desktop 3.2.0 and to upgrade from IDM Desktop 3.1.0 to 3.2.0. You can also install patch releases for IDM Desktop 3.2.0 via SMS 2.0.After completing the installation of IDM Desktop 3.2.0, import the IDM Preference files by creating another SMS package. See the topic "Set up SMS" in the IDM Desktop Administrator's Help for the SMS Package Definition File (PDF) input. Currently, IDM Desktop does not support a silent mode process for adding IDM Desktop components, nor for uninstalling the product. You can use SMS Installer 2.0 to accomplish these tasks.
SMS installation of server-side Web Services software is not supported.
SMS can be used to install or upgrade (from 3.1.0 only) any of the ActiveX Client options (Viewer, Viewer2, and FnControls) to web client computers.
A user can download Web Services application integration from the download page. To navigate to the download page:
To obtain the latest patch, repeat the download and installation. FR 38913
See the Platform Requirements document for the supported development environments, and see the Release Notes for information on known problems that affect API calls. In addition, note the following:
Features introduced in 3.2.0a patches are listed below. See the patch readme for complete descriptions and information on steps you may need to take to enable these features.
After you install Web Services or IDM Desktop, check the FileNET Customer Support site for the latest information and patches (also called hot fix packs). You download patches from a FileNet FTP site. Each patch includes a readme file describing the fixes and other changes in the patch.
