Product: Panagon Capture 3.0 for Document Services

Subject: Installation/Configuration Issues

Problem: What is the performance of Capture Desktop 3.0?

Resolution: Capture Desktop 3.0 is a low-end product, intended for low-volume production environments. Capture Desktop is most suitable when the user scans and adds documents to the document server on an ad-hoc basis.

FileNET's performance testing for adding documents to the document server was conducted with a Visual Basic application built on top of IDM Desktop foundation object libraries. These tests measured the document server's absorption rate: how fast the document server is able to add documents to its repositories. The tests showed that adding about 10,000 documents a day is a normal expectation.

These tests did not measure how fast users are able to scan in documents with Capture Desktop. That measure depends heavily on the customer's environment. For example, indexing several properties slows down the process. The use of DocProcessing features also slows down the document entry process. Using Adobe Capture to generate PDF files has a negative impact on performance too.
