IBM® Enterprise Records classes are templates that help define the structure and capabilities of an object. An object is an instance of the class that can perform services and hold data. There are many classes and subclasses in IBM Enterprise Records.
The base class is the folder class that is the parent class for all the container classes in IBM Enterprise Records, such as Classification Scheme Root, File Plan, Location Container, Record Categories, Record Folders, and Volume. The objects that are created under the Root Folder by default are Access Roles, doc, Preferences, and Records Management.
The following list describes IBM Enterprise Records objects that can be created:
The Records Management object has Classification Scheme Root class as its parent class. You can have one or more file plans in this folder object (although we recommend that you have only one file plan per object store).
The File Plan object has the File Plan class as its parent class. A file plan can contain many record categories and sub-record categories.
A Record Category object can be created within a File Plan object and can store multiple levels of sub-record categories. In the DoD and Base data models, you can declare a record directly in the record category. You can add a record folder object only under the lowest level of a record category. This means that if a record category contains a subcategory, you can only add a record folder object under that subcategory and not directly under the parent record category. Also, you can add a record folder object only to an active record category.
A Record Folder object can contain both volume and record objects. By default, every record folder contains a volume object and inherits all the properties except Name, Identifier, and Date Opened from its parent entity. You can change these inherited values. You can create a record directly in the record folder object.
A Volume object inherits the disposition schedule of the record folder under which it is created. You cannot define a disposition schedule that is independent of the parent record folder. In addition, you cannot create a subfolder or volume under a volume.
For a record object you need to have a Document object in Workplace. For a PRO installation, you can declare a Record object under a record folder or a volume; for a DoD installation, you can declare a Record object under a volume, record folder, or a record category. To declare a Record object, you need to ensure that the entity under which you are declaring that record is open.
