Search Engine Stop Words

A stop word is a word or phrase that an IBM® Content Search Services search server ignores in a full-text search expression. Stop words include such common terms as a, and, the, it, or is, just to name a few.

Stop words differ by locale, so the words are different in each language. You can get the list of stop words for your country or language from your system administrator.

Do not use stop words as the only words in the "Words/phrases" field of a content search. Also, do not use stop words with the AND operator. See Content conditions for details.

For more information, see the "Setting stop words for full-text searches" topic in the Administering Content Engine section of the information center.
