A file plan is a hierarchy of containers, including record categories and subcategories, record folders, and volumes, that define the organization of records. For a graphical representation of this hierarchy, see Types of IBM InfoSphere Enterprise Records Entities.
A file plan determines the security and disposition of records. By default, child entities inherit the security and disposition schedule of their parent container. For more information about security and disposition inheritance, see Object security and Disposition schedule inheritance.
A file plan can also have naming patterns associated with it. All entities created under the file plan will follow the naming pattern rules you define for the file plan. Fir more information about naming pattern rules, see Naming patterns for more information.
IBM InfoSphere Enterprise Records supports one or more file plans per FPOS, and your site can have multiple FPOSs. The IBM InfoSphere Enterprise Records application displays only one file plan hierarchy at a time. When a user initially accesses the application, the file plan set as the default by a site preference displays. Each user can override this default by setting a user preference. For more information, see Set the default file plan.
IBM InfoSphere Enterprise Records includes the File Plan Import Export Tool that enables you to export a file plan to an external environment, such as deployment from a test environment to a production environment. For details about this tool, see Using the File Plan Import Export Tool.
