Streaming files with Production Imaging Edition Viewer Pro

Production Imaging Edition Viewer Pro Streamer Server Module reduces network traffic and increases performance, especially for TIFF and PDF documents with many pages. The server splits document up into individual pages and sends each page to the user on demand. When integrated into Workplace XT, a servlet runs as part of the Workplace XT Server Application.

File streaming combines multiple documents into one single PDF, and then loads the first few pages you want to view from that PDF. Displaying portions of the PDF, rather than the entire PDF all at once, reduces the loading time and memory requirements. Large files or multiple files take more time to display than smaller portions of the file.

Streaming is especially helpful when you have many pages within your file. For example, in a 500 page document, Viewer Pro displays the first few pages at a time, instead of waiting to load all 500 pages together.

The time to display a streamed file varies based on the type of document that is being processed. Large PDF documents with many pages require more time and memory to process than single TIFF images.

After a document page is first processed and viewed, the page is cached. The system displays the cached page, eliminating additional processor time.
