Customizing general steps

You customize an RM workflow by creating new general steps to be added to the workflow. You can also customize the existing general steps in a workflow by assigning different participants.

Creating a new general step

To meet a specific requirement of your business processes, you might need to add a new general step to an RM workflow. For example, the RM Export workflow includes the Approve (Export) step in which the Records Manager is asked to approve the export of an entity to a new location. If your business processes require that the export request first be approved by the Legal department, you can create a new general step and add that step to the RM Export workflow prior to the Approve (Export) step.

To create a new general step, you must develop a step processor to provide and process the information and resources that participants need to complete that step in the workflow. For details, see the Specify a participant to process a step topic in the IBM® FileNet® P8 Documentation User Help.

Specifying a participant

You can customize a step by changing the participants that are assigned to complete that step. Use the FileNet Process Designer to select a Participant or a Work Queue for a general step. For more information, see details about the Step Processor in the Web Application Toolkit Developer's documentation.
