Browse for documents

You can use the IBM FileNet Browse and IBM FileNet Checkout List web parts to view and work from your SharePoint site with content located in IBM FileNet P8 object stores. You use the Browse web part to access documents and folders in a specific object store. You use the Checkout List web part to access the documents you have checked out from all object stores in an IBM FileNet Content Engine domain.

Alternatively, you can search for content. See Search for documents for more information.

Object stores and folders

In a FileNet P8 system, documents are stored in folders on one or more object stores. An object store is similar to a SharePoint document library. The person who adds the web part specifies the object store and starting folder from which you can browse, and the maximum number of items that can appear on each page. If the number of items to be displayed exceeds the maximum per page, you can use the page navigation at the top of the list to view the previous or next group, or to jump to a specific page.

Working with documents and folders

You can perform a variety of actions on documents and folders in an object store. See Interact with documents and folders for a description of the available actions.

The level of access you have to folders and documents is based on the permissions configured for your FileNet P8 user account. Although you need the appropriate SharePoint permissions to view and access the Browse web part in a SharePoint site, the access rights associated with your FileNet P8 user account determine what you are able to do when working with folders and documents viewed in the Browse web part.

A special category of documents contain predefined searches, called stored searches and search templates, that you can use to locate content in an object store. For information about using these predefined searches, see Work with stored searches and search templates.
