IBM Enterprise Records, Version 5.1.+

Installing the Content Engine clients

You must install the Content Engine client software, either interactively or silently in order to have a complete IBM® Enterprise Records installation and enable IBM Enterprise Records to work with Content Engine. The Content Engine client software level must match that of the Content Engine.

Log in as the same user that installed IBM Enterprise Records software to install the Content Engine client. You must install the Content Engine client software on all servers where IBM Enterprise Records components have been installed:
Important: In the Content Engine Client installation software wizard, you have the option to have the client installation program create the EnterpriseRecords.war and EnterpriseRecords.ear deployment files. Choose not to have the client installation program create the deployment files. Later in this procedure, you run the IBM Enterprise Records Configuration Manager tool and execute the tasks in the Web Application Deployment profile to create and deploy the deployment files.

To install Content Engine Client files:

  1. On the machine where IBM Enterprise Records is installed, log on as any user who has the following permissions:
    • Read and write permission to a temporary directory, such as temp, on the machine where IBM Enterprise Records is installed
    • Execute permission on the Content Engine Client installation program
    • Directory access as documented in Client installation directory access requirements.
  2. Copy the Content Engine Client installation program from the Content Engine installation program location to the temporary directory. The version of the installation software must match the version of Content Engine.
  3. Expand the Content Engine Client installation program within the temporary directory.
  4. Start the Content Engine client installation process.
    Option Description
To install the Content Engine Client files interactively:
    1. Access the IBM FileNet® Content Engine client installation program.
    2. Run the version of the IBM FileNet Content Engine client installation program that is appropriate for your version of IBM FileNet Content Engine and platform.
    3. Select to run the client installation program for your IBM Enterprise Records installation.
Important: Older versions of the Content Engine client installation program might not recognize newer IBM Enterprise Records installations. If the IBM Enterprise Records option is disabled, indicating that the client installation program did not find the existing IBM Enterprise Records installation, select the disabled instance of IBM Enterprise Records. On the next panel, you can select the ier_install_path where you installed the IBM Enterprise Records component. After you select the path, complete the Client installation.

On some older patch levels of the Content Engine client installation programs, you cannot select the disabled instance of IBM Enterprise Records. In this case, use the Other installation option and follow the instructions in the Content Engine client installation software readme.

If the Content Engine client installation program could not locate the existing IBM Enterprise Records installation, use the following procedures to copy the Content Engine Client files that are installed to the user-specified location:
    1. Copy the config, lib, and lib2 folders from CE_client_files_path\FileNet\RM\CommonFiles\CE_API to ier_install_path\CommonFiles\CE_API.
    2. Copy the contents of the CE_client_files_path\FileNet\RM\RecordsManager\WEB-INF\lib folder to ier_install_path\RecordsManager\WEB-INF\lib.
    3. Copy the listener.jar file from CE_client_files_path\FileNet\RM\FilePlanImportExportTool\lib to ier_install_path\FilePlanImportExportTool\lib ier_install_path\RecordsManagerSweep\lib ier_install_path\RecordsManager\WEB-INF\lib ier_install_path\RMTransfer\lib
To install the Content Engine Client files silently:
    1. Make a back up copy of the input file: CEClient_silent_install.txt
    2. Open the silent input file in a text editor. Follow the instructions in the silent input file to edit the file to reflect the appropriate responses for your update.
Tip: Configure the client installation software to update your IBM Enterprise Records installation.
    3. Navigate to the path that contains the Content Engine Client installation program, and run the version of the IBM FileNet Content Engine client installation software that is appropriate for your version of IBM FileNet Content Engine and platform.
