IBM FileNet P8, Version 5.1.+

Benefits of the FileNet P8 WebDAV Servlet

WebDAV users are able to access the FileNet® P8 environment with little or no additional training. The business processes that Content Engine enables—version control, document access and document sharing protocols and security—can require some additional explanation and training, depending on the goals of the system and its implementation.

Easy to use

Users do not need to know they are using a FileNet P8 system. For example, a user who connects to the FileNet P8 WebDAV Servlet using web folders is able to navigate within object stores and folders as well as open, modify, save, and close documents in a manner very similar to how they use their local file systems.

Easy to configure

The FileNet P8 WebDAV Servlet resides entirely on the Workplace XT server. There is no additional FileNet P8 software required to install to the client.

An administrator can configure Workplace XT to associate an entry template with specific folders. When a user adds a document to that folder using a supported WebDAV interface (for example, by dragging a document into the shared folder in Windows Explorer), the entry template is launched to apply the security and properties defined in the template. If the entry template includes a workflow, the workflow will also be launched. See WebDAV preferences for more information on the settings.
