Naming conventions

IBM® Enterprise Records supports automatically generating default names for entities, based on a naming pattern. In addition, you can configure an incremental number as a volume name suffix.

Naming patterns

A naming pattern specifies rules used to automatically generate names when new entities are added to a file plan.

Volume name suffix

A volume name suffix is an incremental number that acts as a suffix in the volume name.
  • The names of volumes are generated automatically.
  • The volume name consists of the record folder name followed by a hyphen (-), followed by the volume pattern suffix. For example, if the name of a record folder is RFLegal and the Volume pattern suffix is 00 (indicates number of digits), the first volume name will be RFLegal-01. If the incremental value is 2, then the next new volume will be named RFLegal-03.
  • By default, the value of the suffix is "00000" and the incremental value is 1.
