Installing FileNET Print 4.3

The FileNET Print 4.3 CD provides a complete Installation Guide in PDF format.  We strongly urge you to read the sections of this manual that pertain to your system configuration before installing FileNET Print.  The administrator privilege is required to install FileNET Print.

FileNET Print 4.3 requires Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher when viewing FileNET Print documents that are in PDF format.  You can download the latest Acrobat Reader version from:

http://www.adobe.com

If you are installing FileNET Print from a CD, do not remove the CD from the drive during the installation process.

If you are installing International fonts (Cyrillic, Gothic, Greek, Japanese or Korean), you must install the fonts from a separate font CD after FileNET Print is installed.

The administrator privilege is required to install Panagon Print.

Upgrading to FileNET Print 4.3

Before upgrading to FileNet Print 4.3, we recommend that you review the Updating Print from an Earlier Release chapter in the FileNet Print Installation Guide 4.3 for instructions. If you are upgrading a previous version of Outbound Fax station with Optus to FileNet Print 4.3 with the Outbound Fax option, please read Converting to RightFax document first. This document is posted on the FileNet's CSS web site:

http://www.css.filenet.com

After logging on:

Select the Product Tech Info tab.

Under Products, select Print.

Under Products, select Product Documentation.

Under Products, select Panagon Print 4.3.

FileNet does not support upgrading from a previous release of RightFax server to RightFax v8.5.  If you have an existing RightFax server whose software was purchased from Captaris, please contact Captaris.

There are certain restrictions when upgrading from previous Print releases:

·        There is no support for upgrading from WorkFlo/Print to FileNet Print 4.3 *.

·        There is no support for upgrading from Panagon Print 4.1.1 to FileNet Print 4.3 *.

·        There is no support for upgrading from Panagon Print 4.1 directly to FileNet Print 4.3.  Panagon Print 4.1 must be first upgraded to Print 4.2, then upgrade to Print 4.3. Since Print 4.1 does not support Windows 2000 and Print 4.2 does not support NT, you need to upgrade your Operating System before upgrading to Panagon Print 4.2.

* In this case, you must uninstall your current product, update your Operating System, and then install FileNet Print 4.3.  You may also need to upgrade your hardware.

FileNET Print creates multiple Listener windows due to requests from the IS COR_Listen process which is part of FileNET Print. This opens multiple communications channels with IS(s) for which the COR_Listen process can communicate and in fact increases Print's performance particularly in a high volume environment. Any differences in Listener windows between Print 4.1 and Print 4.2/4.3 has to do with the fact that Print 4.1 uses the older WAL 3.4.2 modules.

Euro Compliancy

FileNET Print 4.3 is Euro compliant.  Please read Appendix A – Euro Character Support in the FileNET Print Installation Guide 4.3 for details.

If you are using any of the FileNET Print International Fonts CDs (Cyrillic, Gothic, Greek, Japanese or Korean), support for the Euro Currency symbol is not available at this time.  If you have a printer with a resident Euro font, the font mapping capability may be used to access a Printer’s resident font to print Euro characters.  Please refer to the Installing Optional Fonts chapter in the FileNET Print Installation Guide 4.3 for details.

General Considerations

Printer memory

Maximum printer RAM is recommended. The amount of the required printer memory is based on font usage, print volume, image sizes and other factors.  Please refer to Panagon Print Performance Recommendations document for the performance factors that need to be considered.  This document is posted on FileNet's CSS web site:

http://www.css.filenet.com

After logging on:

Select the Product Tech Info tab.

Under Products, select Print.

Under Products, select Product Documentation.

Under Products, select either Panagon Print 4.2 or Panagon Print 4.3.

Multiple Print Queues for a Single Printer

You can configure more than one printer queue to point to one physical printer. For example, you can have multiple print queues on one Print server directed to the same printer, or you may have queues on multiple Image Servers that all send jobs to the same Print server and physical printer. However, this should only be done in low-volume environments. If you experience numerous “device busy” errors, you may need to add printers to accommodate the print load.

Fax Manager

Fax Manager is a utility that allows a fax user to monitor the outbound fax requests. It is, however, not required to be running for the outbound fax processing. This is a correction to the RightFax Connector for Content and Image Services Guide where it states "Fax Manager ... must remain running on the Print server in order to process print jobs sent to fax printers." Fax Manager is an administrative tool that does not provide any automated processing.  For this reason, Fax Manager is not a Windows service like the FileNet Print 4.3 software.

Terminated Print Queue

If a print queue is terminated by the Print software and loses its connection to a printer, you must restart Print Administrator to restore the connection and to resume the font downloading process. A print queue may be terminated by a variety of conditions, including powering off the printer, network problems, etc.

Important Notes for FileNET Print 4.3

General Restrictions

The FileNET Print 4.3 product has the following general restrictions:

1.       FileNET Print no longer supports Windows NT.

2.       FileNET Print 4.3 cannot be installed on the same workstation with Image Services.

3.      FileNET Print is exempt from being compliant with the Section 508, since Print is an administrative application.

4.      The maximum number of characters allowed for the Note field on the FileNET Print header page is 40.

5.      Some JPEG images do not include the resolution information.  “Exact” is recommended over “Original” scaling, since “Original” will use the default 100 dpi resolution which may be different from the image’s actual resolution. For this type of an image, there will be a warning on the FileNET Print server such as:

WARNING: The current JPEG file does not specify resolution units.

UsingJPEGResolutionUnit (1) from the configuration …

No resolution was specified, assuming 100 DPI

Annotations

1.      When Suppress Annotations option is selected, only Sticky Notes annotations are printed and they are printed on separate pages. (Closed/As Designed DTS153866)

Outbound Fax

1.      The maximum number of characters allowed for the To: field on the Fax cover page is 26.

2.      The maximum number of characters allowed for the From: field on the Fax cover page is 26.

3.      The maximum number of characters allowed for the Memo field on the Fax cover page is 376.

4.      The maximum number of characters currently allowed for the Subject field on the Fax cover page is 26.  A higher upper limit may be implemented by IDM Desktop in a future release. (FR 27788)

6.      If multiple fax queues are configured on an Outbound Fax server, all of the queues must be configured for the same RightFax server, and cannot point to multiple fax servers. (Closed/SEP STR 56006)

7.      Non-FileNet fax requests are logged to the Outbound Fax Journal. (Closed/As-is STR 61777)

8.      Some IDM Highlight, Annotation and Stamp text may not be WYSYWYG on faxed output. To correct this problem, please use the RightFax application “Faxutil” to adjust the output resolution. Under the “Tools” menu item, select “Options” and on the “Sending” property page, the box labeled “Use Fine Mode” needs to be checked. Selecting this option will force RightFax server to use a higher resolution when rendering Outbound faxes. (Closed/Config STR 61199)

9.      The ‘Subject’ field is not printed on the RightFax cover sheet by default. Please refer to the Creating Fax Cover Sheet chapter in the RightFax Administrator’s Guide to customize your cover sheet to include the ‘Subject’ field. (Closed/Config STR 61156)

Known Software Problems and Restrictions

General Restrictions

1.      Paper size support of C/D/E is not available for OCE 9400 Printer when the legacy OCE 9400 queue is selected on Image Services 3.5 and 3.6. (STR 57986)  The workaround is to select Top or Bottom tray.  This allows the output to be printed on the paper size configured on the printer itself.  If your Image Services server is at the 3.6 Service Pack 1 level, the Open Printer model can be used for OCE9400 with the support for the C/D/E paper sizes.

2.      FileNET Print allows fonts to install that are already resident in a printer. (STR 54702)  If the printer is low on memory and you need to install additional fonts, the printer may be power-cycled first to remove the unnecessary fonts.

3.      Print Service Control must be re-started each time the default Image Services server changes in the Print Configuration. (STR 60966)

Annotations

1.      Rotation of annotations is limited to 0, 45, 90, or 180 degrees. (STR 50332)

2.      Rotations beyond +/- 90 degrees may not be WYSIWYG for IDM Desktop Annotations. (STR 50334)

3.      Underline is not printed. (STR 50335)

4.      Strikeout is not printed. (STR 50336)

5.      Stamp with border may be printed misaligned where stamp text overlaps the border. (STR 57934)

6.      More than 78 annotations on one page will result in the error <207, 1, 135> and no output is produced. (STR 58030)

Outbound Fax

1.      Outbound Fax results in “error status 2” error when faxing with the paper size of A5.  (STR 57617)

2.      Viewing FaxUtil Help results in an error only if Fax Server and FileNet Print Server are installed on the same PC. (STR 62031)

3.      Fax Manager fails to logon when connecting remotely to a RightFax server and if the Windows user logon and password of the Print server are not the same as those of the RightFax server. In this case Fax Manager encounters "ITL_logon" errors and produces "Error in OutboundTimer[] <231,144,2>" errors when configured to monitor remote RightFax servers. The workaround is to manually connect/logon to the remote fax server machine from the Print server. (Pending/Vendor STR 61745)

4.      Retry/resend status is reported as a failed fax job in Print Administrator when lines are busy. (Postponed to vendor DTS 61262)
