Completing additional Rendition Engine installation tasks

After you install the Rendition Engine software, you must complete the tasks in this topic for additional tasks such as setting temporary folder permissions, creating a Java™ repository, and setting the Purge and Archive intervals.

To complete the IBM® FileNet® Rendition Engine installation, perform the following tasks after you run the Rendition Engine installer.

To complete the additional Rendition Engine installation tasks:

  1. Restart the Rendition Engine server and log on as the FNRE_Admin user.
  2. Verify component permissions for the Hide Rendering settings.
    1. On the Rendition Engine server, select Start > Run.
    2. Launch the Component Services Management Console.
      • (Windows 2008) Enter DCOMCNFG.
      • (Windows 2008 R2) Enter MMC comexp.msc /32.
    3. Navigate to Console Root > Component Services > Computers > My computer > DCOM Config.
    4. Right-click BusinessServiceManager and select Properties, then select the Security page.
    5. On the Launch and Activation Permissions page:
      • Select Customize and click Edit.
      • Verify that FNRE_Admin is in Group or user names.
      • Verify that Allow is selected for all of the entries in Permissions for FNRE_Admin.
      • Click OK to close the page.
    6. On the Access Permissions page, repeat the steps you performed on the Launch and Activation Permissions page.
    7. On the Configuration Permissions page, repeat the steps you performed on the Launch and Activation Permissions page.
    8. On the BusinessServiceServer, repeat the steps you just completed for the BusinessServiceManager.
  3. Verify registry permissions for the Hide Rendering settings:
    1. On the Rendition Engine server, select Start > Run.
    2. Enter regedit to start the Registry Editor.
    3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\AppID.
    4. Right-click the BusinessServiceManager Application ID and select Permissions.
    5. Verify that FNRE_Admin is listed in Group or user names and has Full Control.
    6. Click Advanced.
    7. Select the Permissions page and clear the Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent option.
    8. (Windows 2008) Select Copy.
    9. (Windows 2008 R2) Select Add.
    10. Verify that FNRE_Admin is in Group or user names.
    11. Verify that Full Control is selected.
    12. Select the Owner page.
    13. Select FNRE_Admin and click Apply.
    14. Verify that FNRE_Admin is in Current Owner.
    15. Click OK to close the Registry Editor.
    16. Click OK.
  4. Create a Java Repository in the LIQUENT Vista domain for the Content Platform Engine server:

    Perform this step on the first Rendition Engine server in each LIQUENT Vista domain only. Additional Rendition Engine servers will use the settings of the LIQUENT Vista domain they connect to.

    High availabilityIf Content Platform Engine is clustered or farmed, create a Java Repository in the LIQUENT Vista domain for each Content Platform Engine instance in the cluster or farm.

    1. On the Rendition Engine server, navigate to Start > Programs > IBM FileNet P8 Platform > Domain Manager to start the Domain Manager.
    2. Select File > Add Repository, and click Yes in the confirmation window to verify that you intend to add a repository to this domain.
    3. Enter the requested information in the New Repository Properties dialog box.
    4. Confirm the new repository by selecting File > Save. Click Yes in the confirmation window to verify that you intend to make changes to the database.
  5. Optional: Set the Rendition Engine Purge and Archive Intervals:

    To keep the size of your database down, you should configure Rendition Engine to regularly purge the Rendition Engine database of old data. You can also keep the default values to archive data once a day, and purge the archived data once a week.

    1. On the Rendition Engine server, navigate to Start > Programs > IBM FileNet P8 Platform > Domain Manager to start the Domain Manager.
    2. In the Configuration tab, right-click the Domain node and select Properties.
    3. In the General tab of the Domain Properties dialog box, set the Purge Age (Default: 7 days) and Archive Age (Default: 1 day) intervals to suit your environment.
  6. Set security on the VistaTempDir shared folder:

    Perform this step on all Rendition Engine servers in each LIQUENT Vista domain.

    1. On the Rendition Engine server, use Windows Explorer to navigate to RE_install_path\Liquent\SharedTemp.
    2. Right-click the \SharedTemp folder and select Properties.
    3. In the SharedTemp Properties screen, verify that the \SharedTemp folder is shared using the share name VistaTempDir. If not, select the Sharing tab and select Share this folder.
    4. Select the Security tab and click Advanced..
    5. In the Advanced Security Settings for SharedTemp screen, select the Permissions table and click Edit (Windows 2008) or Change Permissions (Windows 2008 R2).
    6. Clear the check box in Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent and click Remove in the Security Confirmation window.
    7. In the Advanced Security Settings for SharedTemp screen, click Add.
    8. In the Select User or Group screen, for the Look in field, keep the local server name or select the correct domain.
    9. Select the proper Rendition Engine user account FNRE_Admin.
    10. In the Permission Entry for SharedTemp screen, give the account all access rights.
    11. In the Access Control Settings for SharedTemp screen, click OK.
    12. In the SharedTemp Properties screen, click OK.
    High availabilityImportant: In highly available environments, after configuring the VistaTempDir, you must verify that you can access this directory from each existing Rendition Engine server by using the FNRE_admin user account, and that you can access the VistaTempDir on each existing Rendition Engine from the current server.
    High availability
    1. To verify accessibility:
      • On the Rendition Engine server, select Start > Run and then type \\Other_RE_Server\VistaTempDir.
      • Verify that you can create a text document in the directory by right-clicking and selecting New > Text Document.
  7. If you added a second or consecutive Rendition Engine to your LIQUENT Vista domain, restart the BusinessServiceServer service.

Every time a Rendition Engine instance is added to the IBM FileNet P8 Platform domain, you must manually restart the BusinessServiceServer services on every Rendition Engine connected to the LIQUENT Vista domain.
