IBM FileNet P8, Version 5.2.1

Inserting a workflow definition or scenario

You can insert workflow definitions and scenarios into the current workflow collection.

Your IBM® FileNet® license agreement determines the level of functionality that you see in Process Designer. As a consequence, some of the options described here might not be available for your system. See your system administrator for more information.

You can add either a new, empty workflow or scenario definition or an existing workflow or scenario definition into the current workflow collection. The name of each workflow or scenario definition that you insert is displayed as a tab at the top of the work area. You access the one you want to work on by clicking the tab. When you save the workflow collection by using options on the File menu, all workflow and scenario definitions are saved in a single XPDL file.

In the context of Workplace and Workplace XT, you might need access-role membership to insert scenario definitions. For more information, see Access roles for using Process applications (Workplace and Workplace XT).

When you work with scenario definitions in Process Designer, you will see minor differences from the stand-alone Simulation Designer that you can access from a client application like IBM Content Navigator:
  • Within Process Designer, you cannot open an existing scenario as a separate file; you can only insert a scenario into the current workflow collection.
  • If you insert an existing scenario that contains one or more workflow definitions, those workflow definitions become part of the workflow collection.
  • Only workflow definitions in the current workflow collection can be included in the scenario.

To insert a workflow or scenario definition into the current workflow definition:

  1. To insert a new or saved workflow definition into the current workflow definition, do the following actions:
    1. From the File menu, choose Insert and select the workflow type to insert: New, Local Workflow or Workflow from Repository.
    2. If you inserting an existing workflow definition (local or from a repository), locate the file in either your local disk or from your object store.
Note: You can import only PEP files that contain an individual workflow definition; you cannot import an XPDL file.
  2. To insert a scenario definition into the workflow collection, from the File menu, click Insert and select New Scenario, Local Scenario or Scenario from Repository.
  3. To edit the scenario definitions in the collection, click the tab or select the scenario definition from View > Scenarios.
