When you move an existing collection of documents from an external repository to a
Content Platform Engine object store, consider migrating the content
incrementally to avoid disruption to existing business operations.
If you migrate the content incrementally, different subsets of documents exist simultaneously at
different stages of conversion.
- In the first stage of system conversion, existing software applications that are based on the
source repository remain operational while content is federated, but not copied or moved. The
purpose of this stage is to verify metadata conversion and to provide an opportunity to port the
existing applications to FileNet® P8.
- The second stage begins when one or more applications are ported and some subset of the source
document collection is federated. Federation rules are defined that select documents from the source
repository that are served by the ported applications. The specified content behavior for these
rules is Migrate. When the federation rules are run, content is migrated to the Content Platform Engine object store and deleted from the source repository.
- The final stage of conversion occurs when all content is migrated and the source repository is
shut down.
