Content Federation Services for Content Manager OnDemand enables FileNet® P8 applications and servers to communicate and work with Content Manager OnDemand.
In a federated configuration, object content is stored in the IBM® Content Manager OnDemand system and can be retrieved by using Content Platform Engine or Content Manager OnDemand. Metadata is
stored in both the IBM Content Manager OnDemand system and the Content Platform Engine system.
Important: Updating the properties in Content Platform Engine
does not update the corresponding Content Manager OnDemand properties, and causes
the Content Manager OnDemand and Content Platform Engine
properties to be out of synchronization.
Communication between Content Federation Services for Content Manager OnDemand and Content Manager OnDemand server is accomplished through the Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit Application Programming Interfaces (ODWEK API). ODWEK configuration
parameters are specified when you define a fixed content device.
After you create the fixed content device and storage area, you must create mappings between
Content Platform Engine document classes and Content Manager OnDemand application groups that are enabled for federation, and map
Content Platform Engine document class properties to Content Manager OnDemand application group fields.
For each Content Manager OnDemand document, its metadata and a document
reference identifier are exported as XML by the content federation exporter. The XML is then
imported as a document object into the Content Platform Engine object store.
The content federation import process periodically polls database tables for new items to
import.
Restrictions: - Content Federation Services for Content Manager OnDemand does not support annotations.
- Bidirectional federation is not supported. If you update the properties on a federated document
in Content Platform Engine, the change is not propagated back to the source
Content Manager OnDemand repository.
- Content Federation Services for Content Manager OnDemand does not support a move content feature.
- If documents are deleted from the Content Manager OnDemand repository, the
federated documents are also deleted from the object store if the federated document class is not
CBR-enabled. But if the federated document class is CBR-enabled, the federated documents are not
deleted from the object store.
- Updating Content Manager OnDemand field values is disabled. If you update
metadata on a document in the Content Manager OnDemand repository after you
federated the document, the changes are not propagated to the federated document in Content Platform Engine.
- You can view Content Manager OnDemand documents
from Workplace XT, but not from Workplace. In Workplace XT, access to Content Manager OnDemand content is
limited to viewing and the Download action menu is disabled. In Workplace,
there is no support for viewing OnDemand documents. The Download option in
Workplace is enabled for Content Manager OnDemand documents, but the download does
not contain a fully formatted document.
