Getting started with Simulation Designer

You can use Simulation Designer to create a scenario definition, specifying which workflows to simulate, and the work schedules (shifts) and resources for the simulation.

Simulation Designer main window

To create a scenario definition:

  1. Import one or more workflow definitions to use in the scenario definition. (Tools > Import Workflow)
  2. Specify the Arrivals parameters (Arrivals tab) for the workflow €”start and end times, and how frequently this workflow runs.
  3. Select each step on the workflow map, and specify the Step parameters (Step tab), ”average time to complete each step, and the expected occurrence of each route.
  4. Specify the Scenario Properties. (Scenario Properties on the toolbar).
    • General properties - general information about the scenario. Includes the scenario name, the date and time of the start and end of the scenario, and runtime simulation option.
    • Shifts - work schedules that define hours of work.
    • Jobs - names of job descriptions and the work queues they process.
    • Resources - participants, workflow groups, or system resources who perform a job on a particular shift. Resources defined in the workflow definition are imported automatically`. You can also create additional resources for the scenario.
  5. When you have finished creating the scenario, check it for errors (Validate scenario on the toolbar), then run the simulation (Start simulation on the toolbar).
