Indexing a document results in timeout messages

The Content Engine server reports timeouts while indexing data.

Symptoms

Timeout messages are usually harmless because each timeout is retried. However, an error similar to the following appears in the p8_server_error.log file if the timeout retry maximum is reached:

The document timeout limit was exceeded for document [<document_ID>=] of collection [/data/OS1_Document_20101013095924_B2375F3454B44B46A028D825586BDB48].

<document_ID> is the Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) assigned to the document.

Causes

The condition is caused by high load and it might also be an indication that more IBM® Content Search Services servers should be added for indexing.

Resolving the problem

Adjust the document timeout period using the IBM Content Search Services configuration tool. For information about changing the document timeout period, see the documentTimeout parameter in the Configuration tool parameters topic.

Ultimately, you might need to add IBM Content Search Services servers to accommodate the high load.
