Associating a site with an Active Directory site

You can associate a site with an Active Directory site by setting the Active Directory Site DNS property.

About this task

Restriction: This option can be used only for configurations that specify a single global catalog host in the directory configuration. Therefore, you cannot associate a site with an Active Directory site when the Active Directory server is configured for failover, which requires a list of host servers to be specified.

Before you associate a site with an Active Directory site, you must use Active Directory Sites and Services to create an Active Directory site and to add any new or existing domain controllers to the site. For more information, see the Microsoft Active Directory documentation.

Procedure

To associate a site with an Active Directory Site:

  1. Access the site properties in the administration console:
    1. In the domain navigation pane, click Global Configuration > Administration > Sites and click the site that you want to associate with the Active Directory site.
    2. Click the Properties tab.
  2. In the Active Directory Site DNS property field, enter the name of the Active Directory site that you want to associate with this site. The format corresponds to the Active Directory site container. For example, a site named Chicago might have a property setting that starts with CN=Chicago, CN=Sites, CN=Configuration, DC=_

The next time that the Content Platform Engine software is started, the Content Platform Engine servers in this site will select a domain controller from the list of servers that are configured in the associated Active Directory site.
