FileNet P8 Rendition Engine, Version 5.2            Operating systems:  Windows

Preparing Microsoft SQL Server for Rendition Engine

IBM® FileNet® Rendition Engine can use Microsoft SQL Server either collocated with Content Platform Engine databases or on a dedicated relational database server for high availability.

If you plan to collocate the Rendition Engine database with Content Platform Engine databases, use the existing Microsoft SQL Server database software on the Content Platform Engine server. For the existing database instance, record the values of the following settings:
  • Server name.
  • Instance name (for example, P8_instance).
  • TCP/IP port number assigned.
Tip: The Microsoft SQL Server instance name you specify for use by the Rendition Engine database must be different from any other SQL instance name that might already be defined on the server.

If you plan to install and configure a stand-alone database server, or if you plan to install and configure the Microsoft SQL Server database on the local Rendition Engine server, follow the instructions in this section.

Important:
  • For a local installation, install Microsoft SQL Server server software on the Rendition Engine server
  • For a remote installation, install Microsoft SQL Server server software on the remote server, and install Microsoft SQL Server client software on the Rendition Engine server.
High availabilityTip: In a high availability environment, install the database as a remote database that is available to all Rendition Engine servers.
  • The relational database is created automatically for Microsoft SQL Server on the Rendition Engine server when you install and configure theRendition Engine software later in this procedure.
