The relational database that is used by IBM®
FileNet® Rendition Engine can be installed locally
on Rendition Engine server, collocated
remotely with a Content Platform Engine database,
or installed on a separate, remote stand-alone database server.
If you plan to collocate the
Rendition Engine database with the
Content Platform Engine database, use the existing
Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle software that
is already configured on that server.
- For Microsoft SQL Server, the Rendition Engine installation automatically
creates the SQL database
- For Oracle, the table space and user are created by the Oracle-repository.sql script
that you run before you install the Rendition Engine software
If you plan to install and configure a Microsoft SQL Server database instance or
Oracle database on the Rendition Engine server
or on a stand-alone database server, follow the instructions in this
section.
Important: If the Content Platform Engine server uses a DB2® relational database, and you
plan to install the Rendition Engine relational
database on that server, you must also install either Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle relational
database server software on the Content Platform Engine server.
All relational databases
- Determine your local or remote database preference. The database
is local if it is installed on the same server as Rendition Engine. The database is remote if
it is not on the same server as Rendition Engine.
- Determine what type of database software you want to use. Rendition Engine supports only Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle relational
databases.
- Determine the Archive and Purge intervals for the Rendition Engine database.
By default,
the Rendition Engine database is
set to expand automatically as it reaches capacity. To keep the database
size down, Rendition Engine is
designed to archive the content of the database daily and to purge
the archived content weekly. These intervals can be modified after
you install the Rendition Engine software.
Microsoft SQL Server
Determine
whether a dedicated or a shared database is more appropriate for your
business needs.
Before you install the first Rendition Engine, create a SQL Login account
for Rendition Engine purposes.
Under Microsoft SQL Server, you
must ensure that an SQL Login account exists. See Configuring a Microsoft SQL Server login for Rendition Engine.
Oracle
Determine whether a
dedicated or a shared database is more appropriate for your business
needs.
- Rendition Engine can have a
dedicated Oracle database service or a shared database service with Content Platform Engine or with non-FileNet P8 applications.
- Rendition Engine must have
its own table space, separate from Content Platform Engine. The table space and
user are created by the Oracle-repository.sql script
that you run before you install the first Rendition Engine software, as described
in the section Creating an Oracle database for Rendition Engine.
If the database is not going to reside on the Rendition Engine server, you install the
Oracle database client software on the Rendition Engine server. Install the Oracle
server software on the same server as the database.
