Index request queue

The index requests queue consists of those index requests that are waiting to be processed. Monitor the size of the queue to determine whether your indexing rate equals the document ingestion rate. If the ingestion rate is greater than the index rate, how quickly a document gets indexed can vary considerably.

Index requests are added to the queue as documents are added to the object store or as index jobs are submitted. The requests are added in batches that are called index insertion batches. They are later removed from the queue and grouped into index batches. Content Platform Engine then submits these index batches to IBM® Content Search Services for processing.

You determine the size of the index request queue by counting the number of rows in the IndexRequests table. You get this row count by using your native database tools to run a query.

The size of the index request queue remains relatively constant if the indexing rate equals the document ingestion rate. Otherwise, if the indexing rate is less than the document ingestion rate, the index request queue grows in size. For example, a backlog of index requests might develop during the day if the indexing rate is relatively slow. At the end of the business day, Content Platform Engine might require several hours to eliminate a sizeable backlog.
