Use Diagram mode to create basic diagrams of processes as a starting point
for designing a full workflow. See the Mode designation on the toolbar to confirm that you are
using Diagram mode.
In
Diagram mode, you place each activity on the map, specify the routing
between activities, and add a description of each item to communicate
the intent and conditions for each activity and route. You can also
add annotations onto the map. To communicate the design to others,
you can print the map and the other information about the diagram.

- Work area tabs
- Provides access to open workflow definitions. Select workflow
definitions in the current workflow collection from the View menu
to open a tab in the work area. Right-click the tab and select Close to close a tab.
- Steps section
- Provides you with options to create and edit a step. Also provides
you with the option to change the color of an annotation.
- Main toolbar
- Provides shortcuts to the various options you have for working
with workflows.
- Maps section
- Provides shortcuts to commonly used tools for selecting workflow
maps. See Map area in Toolbar for
additional information.
- Workflow map
- Contains the workflow map of steps and route lines that define
the process. See Map area for additional
information.
- Tabs menu
- Displays a list of steps, routes, annotations and associations
for the current map.
- Object properties tabs
- Displays the various tabs available for defining the properties
of an object.
- Status bar
- Displays the name of the current workflow definition, helpful
messages, and shortcuts to display options.
- Display preferences
- Provides you with shortcuts to change your display preferences.
