Remote caching performance

Increased time delays and decreased bandwidth are two remote caching performance issues to consider when you send data over a wide area network (WAN).

The following performance problems can occur when you send data over a WAN:
Increased time delays
Many data requests and retrievals over a long distance can add up to a noticeable time lag.

The Content Federation Services for Image Services solution is to send only one Remote Procedure Call (RPC) over the WAN per operation. Any RPC bursts are done over the local area network (LAN).

Decreased bandwidth
The rate of data transmission over a WAN is less than the rate over a LAN.

The Content Federation Services for Image Services solution sends large data objects over the WAN on the first read access only and caches them locally on the satellite Content Platform Engine server. For remote entry, if the cache is local, no network delay occurs when the system retrieves an object that was recently committed.
