Use the Step tab in the Properties pane to display the properties and values of the selected step. Each step type has different properties.

General step (participant or work queue) | This type of step represents an activity that is processed by a participant or sent to a work queue for processing by a participant or an automated process. |
Component step | This step represents work routed to operations in external subsystems. |
Submap step | This step represents a call to another workflow map in the workflow definition. |

For an overview of the properties for each type of step, see the topic containing the summary of step properties.
Multi-participant steps can have a combination of active and completed work items. Because a step can be visited more than once, a step can have one or more occurrences that are complete as well as an active occurrence. Process Tracker considers these steps to be active.
