Defining scenario properties

In the Scenario Properties dialog, you specify the name, start and stop times, and the details of how the work is done. For example, the shifts, jobs, and resources for the scenario. The jobs and shifts must be defined for the simulated work environment. Resources are imported with the workflow definitions; you associate the resources with the appropriate shift and the cost per hour.

To define the properties for a scenario:

  1. If necessary, select Scenario Properties on the Simulation Designer toolbar, and display the General tab.
  2. On the General tab, enter a name for this scenario. The name might contain spaces, numbers, underscores, and some special characters.

The scenario name is used as the file name when you check in the scenario. The scenario name is also the default document title, although you can change the title. The scenario name is also the simulation name. The document title appears in Simulation Console to select the scenario to open or run.

  3. In the Description field, you can optionally enter text to describe the scenario. The text that you enter then displays in Simulation Console and as the simulation description.
  4. Under Simulated Data Start Date and Time, click the Calendar button to specify the date and time to start the simulation.
Note: The Calendar dialog displays the date and time in the default format for your locale. If you modify the default time and date pattern, the Calendar dialog does not display the date and time in the modified pattern.
  5. Under Simulated Data End Date and Time, specify the date and time to end the simulation.
Tip: The dates and times to start and end the simulation are virtual times, not related to any actual times. For example, you could specify a start date of January 1, 2004 and an end date of January 31, 2004, then run the simulation on the actual date of June 5, 2003. The simulation would use the other scenario settings, such as arrivals and shifts, and identify the simulation data as representing the period from January 1 to January 31, 2004.
  6. Under Process Simulator Options, select Publishing Enabled true if you want to start the publisher when the simulation ends. When this option is selected, the events generated by the simulation are published to Case Analyzer for analysis and report generation.
