Testing a lifecycle policy

About this task

You can test a lifecycle policy after you assign it to a document class.

Procedure

To test a lifecycle policy that is assigned to a class:

  1. Find the Root Folder folder in the administration console:
    1. In the domain navigation pane, click the object store.
    2. In the object store navigation pane, expand the Browse folder.
  2. Create and open a test document:
    1. In the object store navigation pane, right-click the Root Folder folder and click New Document. The New Document tab opens.
    2. On the New Document tab for the Class field, enter the document class to which you assigned the lifecycle policy.
    3. Complete the wizard.
    4. At the end of the wizard, click Open. A tab for the new document opens.
  3. Verify that the lifecycle policy works as expected for the test document:
    1. On the new document tab, click the Lifecycle Policy subtab.
    2. On the Lifecycle Policy tab, change the document state to test the associated actions. For each state change, the system checks the lifecycle policy and runs the action that is defined for the change. For example, to test the email notification actions of the sample lifecycle script:
      • ...click Promote to test whether promoting a document successfully sends a document promotion message.
      • ...click Demote to test whether demoting a document successfully sends a document demotion message.
      • ...click Set Exception to test whether setting the document in an exception mode sends the appropriate message.
    3. Verify that the actions occurred. For example, if you used the sample lifecycle script, verify that your email recipient received the appropriate email for each command issued.
  4. If any action did not occur as expected, make the necessary corrections to the lifecycle action and run your test again.
  5. If all actions occurred as expected, delete the test document.
