When IBM®
FileNet® Rendition Engine and the Oracle relational database are
installed on the same server, you must install both Oracle Server 64-bit software and Oracle Instant
Client Package software.
IBM
FileNet Rendition Engine requires 64-bit Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 R2 servers, and Oracle
provides 64-bit database software for 64-bit servers. However, Rendition Engine is a 32-bit application, which requires 32-bit Oracle Client
software to communicate with the 64-bit Oracle database. Therefore, when the Oracle database for
Rendition Engine is on the Rendition Engine
server, the database must be configured as a remote database, even though the database is installed
on the same server as Rendition Engine.
To install the Oracle relational database software on the Rendition Engine server:
- As an Oracle administrative user, start the Oracle Universal Installer.
- Select the Advanced Installation option.
- Select either the Standard Edition or the Enterprise
Edition option. Rendition Engine is compatible with both
editions.
Do not create a demo database when you are prompted.
- As you proceed through the installation, record the following values in the worksheet. This
information is required for subsequent installations.
- Global Database Service Name, ORACLE_SID,, such as
REDB
- Oracle Database Administration Group, such as REDBA
- Accept the default values for the remaining prompts.
- Verify that the following products, at a minimum, are selected:
- Oracle Database Server
- Oracle Net Services
- Oracle Development Kit
- Oracle Call Interface (OCI)
- (Windows servers only) Oracle Windows Interfaces
- Select all the components that are listed in this section.
- Oracle Documentation (optional)
- Install the current patch set for your version of Oracle, as specified in the IBM
FileNet P8 system requirements. Follow the Oracle instructions that accompany the
patch set.
- Download the Oracle Instant Client Package - Basic from the Oracle website. Follow the Oracle
installation instructions that accompany the software.
