Deleting an unused full-text index

Delete an unused full-text index and the associated index configuration files when necessary. The files for an index are in a subdirectory of the index area root directory. Usually, IBM® Content Search Services deletes the index subdirectory automatically when the index is no longer used.

About this task

Important: Delete a full-text index only if the index is no longer used by IBM Content Search Services.

Procedure

To delete an unused full-text index:

  1. In the administration console, verify that the full-text index is not listed as an index for the index area:
    1. Listing index areas
    2. In the details pane, click the name of the index area.
    3. Click the Index tab.
    4. Verify that the index is not listed in the Index selection list.
  2. Delete the index by using the administration tool. Use the following command-line syntax to run the tool:
adminTool delete -configPath path -collectionName index_name
  3. If the deletion attempt fails:
    1. Stop IBM Content Search Services servers. Stop all servers.
    2. Find the subdirectory of the index root directory that contains the index. The subdirectory has the same name as the index.
    3. Delete the index subdirectory. If the deletion attempt fails, wait a few minutes and try again until the index subdirectory is deleted.
    4. Start IBM Content Search Services servers. Start all servers.
