Creating an Import Data Set for an Add-on

An import data set contains an XML representation of the objects to be installed by an add-on.

The import data set must be created before the add-on that references it is created.

To create an import data set:

  1. Using IBM® Administration Console for Content Platform Engine, create an object store.
  2. If the add-on to be created depends on add-ons that currently exist, then install the prerequisite add-ons into the object store where the metadata and data for the new add-on will be created.
  3. Define the classes, objects, and properties that form the add-on.
  4. Using IBM FileNet® Deployment Manager, create an export manifest that specifies the add-on metadata that you created in the previous step.
  5. Using ImpExpCmdTool, run the export operation on the export manifest that you created in the previous step. This operation creates the import data set, which is imported into the add-on when it is created.
Note: The ImpExpCmdTool is not included with Content Platform Engine version 5.2.1 and later. For information about how to install ImpExpCmdTool on your system, see Installing tools for managing publish style templates and creating add-on features for Content Platform Engine 5.2.1.
An add-on must contain only new metadata or modifications to existing required metadata. Before you create the add-on, ensure that the import data set does not include any assets that are not intended to be part of the new add-on. If necessary, edit the import data set. For example, remove property templates, class definitions, and property definitions that are not applicable to the new add-on. Also, remove the following tags from every class definition stanza: Creator, LastModifier, DateCreated, DateLastModified, Owner.
