Process Simulator

Process Simulator performs what-if scenarios, providing business analysts with important information they can use to streamline business processes.

The following diagram illustrates how a simulation is run and provides an overview of Process Simulator architecture.

  1. An analyst uses the Simulation Designer to create a scenario and requests that it be run.
  2. The scenario is saved to an object store. The saved scenario can be modified and saved as different versions of the original, and each version can be rerun as needed.
  3. A Simulation object is saved in the object store. The Simulation object is updated with the simulation results after the simulation is complete.
  4. The scenario is submitted to Process Simulator as a simulation. (A simulation is a runtime version of the scenario.)
  5. Optionally, Process Simulator retrieves production statistics about the workflows from a production Case Analyzer store to seed the simulation with actual system behavior.
  6. Process Simulator runs the simulation.
  7. Process Simulator publishes analytical results of the simulation to a simulation Case Analyzer store.
  8. Process Simulator saves the results of the simulation in the Simulation object in the object store.
  9. The analyst selects a simulation object and makes a request to view an animation of the simulated workflow.
  10. The simulation results are retrieved from the Simulation object in the object store.
  11. The Animator animates the simulation based on the retrieved simulation results.
