Configuring Microsoft Excel for publishing

To publish Excel documents to PDF or HTML, install Microsoft Excel and configure it to run without user intervention in your Rendition Engine environment.

Complete this step on the Rendition Engine server and on each client computer where Microsoft Office applications are installed, and from which source documents are added and rendering is initiated. These settings ensure that hyperlinks are treated correctly on publishing.

To configure Microsoft Excel publishing requirements:

  1. Access the Excel options:
    Version Steps
    Office 2007 In Excel, click the Office button, and then click Excel Options.
    Office 2010, Office 2013 In Excel, click the File tab, and then click Options.
  2. Update the following options:
    Option Subsection Action
    Formulas Error checking
    • Clear Enable background error checking.
    Save Save workbooks
    • (Office 2007) Set Save files in this format to Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls).
    • Clear Save AutoRecover info every.
    Advanced Cut, copy, and paste
    • Clear Show Paste Options buttons.
    • Clear Show Insert Options buttons.
      (Office 2007, Office 2010) Display
    • Clear Show all windows in the Taskbar.
    • Clear Show function ScreenTips.
      General
    • (Office 2007, Office 2010) Clear Provide feedback with animation.
    • Clear Ask to update automatic links.
    • Clear Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes.
  3. Select the Trust Center tab and perform the following steps:
    Version Steps
    Office 2007
    1. In the Microsoft Office Excel Trust Center section, click Trust Center Settings.
    2. Click Privacy Options, and clear Sign up for the Customer Experience Improvement Program.
    3. Click OK to save and close the Trust Center.
    Office 2010
    1. In the Microsoft Office Excel Trust Center section, click Trust Center Settings.
    2. Click File Block Setting and clear all of the check boxes for each file type under Open and Save.
    3. Click Privacy Options, and clear Sign up for the Customer Experience Improvement Program.
    4. Click OK to save and close the Trust Center.
    Office 2013
    1. In the Microsoft Office Excel Trust Center section, click Trust Center Settings.
    2. Click ActiveX Settings.
      1. Select Enable all controls without restrictions and without prompting.
      2. Clear Safe mode.
    3. Click Macro settings.
      1. Under the Macro Settings section, select Enable all macros.
      2. Under Developer Macro Settings, select Trust access to the VBA project object model.
    4. Click Protected View and clear all options.
    5. Click Message Bar and select Never show information about blocked content.
    6. Click File Block Setting and clear all of the check boxes for each file type under Open and Save.
    7. Click Privacy Options, and clear all options.
    8. Click OK to save and close the Trust Center.
  4. Click OK to save and close Excel Options.
