Content Platform Engine, Version 5.2.1

Upgrading Content Platform Engine software interactively

You can upgrade the Content Platform Engine (Content Engine, if you are upgrading FileNet® P8 from a version prior to 5.2.0) software interactively. For application servers running on AIX®, HPUX, HPUXi, Linux, Linux on System z®, or Solaris, you upgrade Content Platform Engine Server and tools. For application servers running on Windows, you upgrade or install these components, as needed: Content Platform Engine Server, tools, .NET Clients (including FileNet Deployment Manager).

About this task

Procedure

To upgrade Content Platform Engine software interactively:

  1. If you are upgrading on the same machine where Content Engine or Content Platform Engine was previously installed, log on as the same user who originally installed that software. The installation program requires this to detect that it is an upgrade and to use the same installation path. If you are upgrading on a new machine, where Content Platform Engine has never been installed, log on as the cpe_install_user. The latter would be the case if you are doing a migration upgrade, installing on a new machine but upgrading an existing database.
  2. Open your completed Installation and Upgrade Worksheet file.
Tip: In the worksheet file, verify that the Data > Filter > AutoFilter command is enabled. To view only Content Platform Engine values, filter by CPE Installer in the Installation or Configuration Program column.
  3. Run one of the following programs in the software package, depending on your operating system:
    Platform Command
    AIX 5.2.1-P8CE-AIX.BIN
    HPUX 5.2.1-P8CE-HPUX.BIN
    HPUXi 5.2.1-P8CE-HPUXi.BIN
    Linux 5.2.1-P8CE-LINUX.BIN
    Linux for System z 5.2.1-P8CE-ZLINUX.BIN
    Solaris 5.2.1-P8CE-SOL.BIN
    Windows 5.2.1-P8CE-WIN.EXE
  4. Complete the wizard screens by using the values in your worksheet.
  5. When the installation completes, click Done and check for errors in the Content Platform Engine ce_install_path/ce_install_log_5.2.1.txt error log file, where ce_install_path is the location where Content Platform Engine is installed. Also check the ce_install_path/ce_install_summary.txt file to see what components were installed.
