Starting and stopping Content Platform Engine

You can start and stop the Content Platform Engine software by using graphical user interface (GUI) or command line instructions.

Procedure

Tip: You can configure various options for automatic startup. In order to provide you with all of the steps required to start this component, the following procedure assumes that no automatic startup options have been configured. Click Automatic startup tip for instructions on enabling automatic startup for a step. Where automatic startup is configured, the related step becomes unnecessary.

Follow the instructions for the appropriate action:
Action Steps
Startup
  1. Start the directory service server:

Use the startup procedures specified by your directory service software vendor.

  2. Start the database server software. Where databases are remote or not collocated, be sure to start the global configuration database and the databases for the object stores, legacy workflow systems, and Case Analyzer stores:

Use the startup procedures specified by your database software vendor.

  3. If OLAP integration is enabled for a Case Analyzer store, start the Case Analyzer SSAS connector service:
Important: If you intend to use Case Analyzer Excel Reports or Cognos Business Intelligence, the Case Analyzer SSAS connector service must be running. This service must be installed on a Windows server and therefore might not be collocated with the Content Platform Engine software.
    GUI
Use the Windows Services console on the server where the Case Analyzer SSAS connector is installed to start the Case Analyzer SSAS connector service. Automatic startup tip
    Command line
Enter the following command on the server where the Case Analyzer SSAS connector is installed:
net start "Case Analyzer SSAS connector"
  4. Start the application server software:

Use the startup procedures specified by your application server software vendor.

Shutdown
  1. Stop the application server software:

Use the shutdown procedures specified by your application server software vendor.

If your application server software provides these options, you can do the following actions:

    • Stop an individual application: you can stop the Content Platform Engine application.
    • Finish work-in-progress: you can allow in-progress work to complete before stopping Content Platform Engine.

Because the data sources are defined by default at the cell (for WebSphere) or domain (for WebLogic) level, you might need to stop the application server software to release the connection to the database.

  2. If OLAP integration is enabled for a Case Analyzer store, stop the Case Analyzer SSAS connector service:
    GUI
Use the Windows Services console on the server where the Case Analyzer SSAS connector is installed to stop the Case Analyzer SSAS connector service.
    Command line
Enter the following command on the server where the Case Analyzer SSAS connector is installed:
net stop "Case Analyzer SSAS connector"

  3. Stop the database server software. Where databases are remote or not collocated, be sure to stop the global configuration database and the databases for the object stores, legacy workflow systems, and Case Analyzer stores:
Use the shutdown procedures specified by your database software vendor.
Tip: For backup purposes, you can take the associated databases offline.
