Records management and defensible disposition

Defensible disposition ensures that documents in all participating repositories across an enterprise are disposed of in accordance with applicable record disposition and retention policies and when free of any litigation holds. Documents that are declared as records are not deleted until the time specified by the records management disposition schedule.

When a federated document is declared a record, the content must be locked down in the external repository. Locking down a document is how the content federation system ensures that the document is not deleted from the external repository by any other application. The lockdown mechanism that is used on the source content depends on the type of repository.
