Text extraction processes fail to start on a UNIX system

When IBM® Content Search Services performs text extraction as it indexes documents on a UNIX system, the text extraction processes fail to start because the UNIX open file limit is exceeded.

Symptoms

The text extraction processes (named ibmfndcm) fail to start.

Causes

When IBM Content Search Services performs text extraction, the number of batches and filters exceed the number of open files that are allowed on your UNIX system.

Resolving the problem

Increase the upper limit on open files in UNIX for the user that is running Content Platform Engine by using the ulimit UNIX command. The default upper limit is 2000. For more information, see Configuring IBM Content Search Services servers (AIX®, Linux, Linux on System z®, Solaris).
