Configuring an Eclipse Project

After you create a new project, you add the required JARs and Java™ Runtime Environment (JRE), then set the compiler compliance level.

Starting Eclipse

  1. On your system, start the Eclipse IDE application.
  2. In the Eclipse Workspace Launcher window, enter a workspace name. For example, C:\workspace or /opt/workplace.
  3. Click OK.
  4. If the Welcome pane opens, close the pane.

Creating a Project

  1. In the Eclipse menu bar, click File > New > Java Project.
  2. In the New Java Project dialog box, enter the project name in the Project name field. For example, P8ApiSample.
  3. Click Finish.

Adding IBM® FileNet JARs

  1. In Eclipse, if the Project Explorer pane is not already open, click the Show View icon in the lower left corner of Eclipse, then click Project Explorer.
  2. In the Project Explorer pane, right-click your project name, then click Properties.
  3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Java Build Path node in the left pane tree view.
  4. In the Java Build Path section of the Properties dialog box, click the Libraries tab.
  5. Click Add External JARs.
  6. In the JAR Selection dialog box, browse to the folder location for the JAR files Jace.jar, log4j.jar, and p8cel10n.jar.
  7. Using the Ctrl key, select the required JAR files from the file list.
  8. Click Open.
  9. Keep the Properties dialog box open and proceed to the next procedure.

Adding a WebSphere JRE to the Project

A FileNet® P8 client application that uses the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) transport must use the WebSphere JRE to connect to a Content Platform Engine that is hosted by WebSphere.
  1. In the Properties dialog box, click the Java Build Path node in the left pane tree view.
  2. In the list of JARs and class folders on the build path, select JRE System Library, and click Edit.
  3. In the JRE System Library dialog box, click Installed JREs.
  4. Click Add.
  5. In the Add JRE dialog box, select Standard VM in the Installed JRE Types list.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Enter the JRE home for the WebSphere software.

For a remote development environment, specify the JRE location of WebSphere Application Client, for example, C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppClient\java\jre for Windows, or /opt/IBM/IBM/WebSphere/AppClient/java/jre for non-Windows systems.

For a local development environment, specify the JRE location of WebSphere Application Server, for example, C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\java\jre for Windows, or /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/java/jre for non-Windows systems.

  8. Enter the JRE name. For example, WebSphere JRE.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. In the Installed JREs dialog box, select the newly added WebSphere JRE.
  11. Click OK.
  12. In the JRE System Library dialog box, click Alternate JRE, then, from the drop-down list, select the WebSphere JRE.
  13. Click Finish.
  14. Keep the Properties dialog box open and proceed to the next procedure.

Setting Compiler Compliance Level

The Java compiler that you use for your project must be compliant with the version used for the Content Engine Java API.
  1. In the Properties dialog box, click the Java Compiler node in the left pane tree view.
  2. In the Java Compiler section of the Properties window, select the Enable project specific settings check box.
  3. Select the Use default compliance settings check box.
