Building a Step Processor with the Java Step Processor UI Toolkit

Some sample Java™ Step Processors are supplied on the FileNet® P8 Documentation CD or ESD image. These samples are designed to show how to use the reusable Java user interface (UI) components and controls to extend the existing applets and applications. Also, the samples represent a close approximation of the default Java Step Processors and Launch Step Processors implemented on the Application Engine. The applets and applications include JavaStep Processors and Launch Step Processors. The UI components and controls are included with the Java Step Processor UI Toolkit.

For more information, see Configuring the Process Development Environment.

These Java Step and Launch Step Processor samples are not meant to be the starting place for developing a custom Java workflow application. Rather, these samples are provided for the following purposes:
  • Developing Java applications to process workflow steps (Step Processor) or to launch workflows (Launch Step Processor)
  • Providing the user interfaces for these applications
See Java Step Processor Sample Files and Java Launch Step Processor Sample Files for descriptions of the sample files.

For information on using the Java Step Processor UI Toolkit to customize the user interface of the samples, see the following topics:

To build a Java Step or Launch Step Processor with the Toolkit:

  1. To verify that the supplied samples work correctly in your development environment, compile and run MainSample and the sample classes called. These classes include the sample Java Step Processor, the Launch Step Processor, or both. See MainSample.
  2. Determine whether to deploy your customized version of the Java Processor as an application or an applet. See Developing Custom Java Processors - Applications or Applets.
  3. Customize the sample Java Step Processor.
  4. Complete the custom Processor.
