Viewing or updating a data map

After you combine the half maps of a source and destination environment for object stores, connection points, security principals, or services, the data map editor is opened automatically. You can view or update the resulting data map. If you closed the data map editor and want to reopen it, use the steps in the following procedure.

To open a data map editor for a source-destination pair:

  1. In the FileNet® Deployment Manager tree view pane, expand the Source-Destination Pairs node, and then expand the source-destination pair that contains the data map that you want to view or update.
  2. Double-click one of the following data maps: Object Store Map, Connection Point Map, Security Principal Map, or Service Map.
  3. View or update the data map:
    Option Description
    View a data map
Each row in a data map contains the information of the combined source and destination half map pairs for that data map type (object store, connection point, security principal, or service). Although each type of data map contains columns that are specific to that data map type, the first two columns are the same for all three data map types:
    Information column
Each field in this column contains an information icon. When you place your cursor over the information icon for a row, a snapshot of the entire contents of the row is displayed.
    Mapping status column
Each field in this column specifies whether a row represents a mapped source-destination pair:
    • A green check mark icon indicates a successful mapping of a source and destination half map item. If the mapping is the result of an automatic pairing of a source and a destination half map item that is based on matching column field values, a gear symbol is included in the icon. If the mapping was created manually, either by a matched user-entered label pair in the source and destination half map items, or by selecting from a list in the data map, a pencil symbol is included in the icon.
    • A red question mark icon indicates an unmapped source half map item. In a row that contains an unmapped item, the value of each destination field is set to the unmatched state ("###"), except for the destination label field, which is populated with a blank entry.

You can update the appearance of a data map as follows:

    • Sort the data in a column: Click a column header to sort the data in its column.
    • Drag-and-drop a column to a new location: Except for the information and mapping status columns, you can move any column to a new location. This operation is useful if your data map has several columns and the columns that you want to view are far apart. Click the column header of the column you want to move and, while you hold down the mouse button, drag the column to a new location.

Any changes that you make to the appearance of a data map are not saved; if you close and then reopen a data map editor, the column, and row order in the data map reverts to the default appearance.

    Update a data map

By changing the contents of a destination field in a data map, you can change the destination half map item that a source half map item is mapped to. Each destination column that holds destination half map items with distinguishing values provides a list from which you can select a new destination half map field. By contrast, a destination column that holds destination half map fields that do not have distinguishing values, for example, the Destination Principal Type column in a security principal data map, does not provide a list. Therefore, if a half map does not have distinguishing values, it cannot be used for mapping purposes. You cannot directly change the contents of a source field in a data map; however, the source label field can be modified as a result of mapping or unmapping a source half map item. FileNet Deployment Manager allows many-to-one mapping for object store, service data map, and security principal data map types. For more information, see Many-to-one security principal mappings.

You can change the mappings in a data map as follows:

    • Map an unmapped source half map item: By selecting an entry (except the blank entry) from the list of any destination field that contains a list, you can map an unmapped source half map item to a destination half map item. When a source and destination half map item become mapped in a data map row, the icon in the mapping status field of the row changes from a red question mark to a green check mark. In addition, the destination fields, which were set to the unmatched state ("###"), are automatically populated with values from the destination half map item and the source and destination label fields are set to matching values.
    • Change the mapping of a source half map item: By selecting any entry (except the blank entry) from the list of a destination field, you can change the destination half map item to which a source half map item is mapped. The destination fields in the data map are automatically populated with the values from the new destination half map item and the source and destination label fields are set to matching values.
    • Remove the mapping from a mapped source-destination pair: You can cause a mapped source-destination pair to be unmapped by selecting the blank entry at the top of the list from any destination field that contains a list. When a source half map item becomes unmapped, the icon in its mapping status field changes from a green check mark to a red question mark. In addition, the values of all its destination fields are set to the unmatched state ("###"), except for the destination label field, which is populated with a blank entry. In certain situations, the source label field can also be populated with a blank entry.

To save your changes, select Save from the File menu. When a data map is changed, any changes that are made to its source and destination label fields are automatically saved to the corresponding source and destination half map labels. Because the half maps are automatically updated, a saved data map can usually be re-created from its source and destination half maps.
