Creating Java™ Database Connectivity (JDBC) data sources

You can create a JDBC data source to connect to the workflow system database and common base event adapter databases.

Use the following steps to create the JDBC data sources:
  1. Create a JDBC Provider for connecting to the workflow system data.
    1. On the Administrative Console, select Resources > JDBC Providers.
    2. Click New.
    3. Select the database type.
    4. Select the provider type:
      • SQL Server: WebSphere® embedded ConnectJDBC driver for MS SQL Server.
      • DB2®:  DB2 Universal JDBC Driver Provider.
      • Oracle:  Oracle JDBC Driver. Obtain the Oracle JDBC driver JAR file, ojdbc6.jar. When you have this file, update the following WebSphere Class path environment variable to point to the JAR file:
        ${ORACLE_JDBC_DRIVER_PATH}/ojdbc6.jar
    5. Select Connection pool data source for the Implementation Type.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Click Apply.
  2. Create a Data Source for connecting to the workflow system.
    1. Click Data Sources.
    2. Click New and specify the following information.
      • Enter a name for the data source.
      • Enter jdbc/com/ibm/P8/BPM/PEDataSource for the JNDI name.
      • Clear Use this Data Source in container managed persistence (CMP).
      • For Component-managed authentication alias, use the <Node>/<alias> selection for the workflow system alias created previously.
      • Enter the workflow system database name.
      • Enter the workflow system database server name.
      • Enter the workflow system database port number.
Tip:  The last three bullets are not specified for Oracle. Instead, specify a single "URL" property. The Oracle JDBC Driver DataSource requires the following URL entry, in place of the workflow system database name and port. Enter the URL in the following form:
         jdbc:oracle:thin:@<host_name>:<port>:<instance_name>
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Save to Master Configuration, then click Save.
    5. Check the box for the data source, and click Test Connection to verify connectivity.
  3. Create JDBC driver for connecting to the BPMSTATE database.
    1. In the admin console menu, select Resources > JDBC Providers.
    2. Click New.
    3. Select DB2 for the database type.
    4. Select DB2 Universal JDBC Driver Provider for the provider type.
    5. Select XA data source for the Implementation Type.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Click Apply.
  4. Create a data source for connecting to the BPMSTATE database.
    1. Click Data Sources.
    2. Click New and specify the following information:
      • Enter a name for the data source.
      • Enter jdbc/com/ibm/P8/BPM/CBEAdaptor/EventStateDataSource for the JNDI name.
      • Clear Use this Data Source in container managed persistence (CMP).
      • For Component-managed authentication alias, use the <Node>/<alias> selection for the common base event adapter event state alias created previously.
      • In Authentication alias for XA Recovery, select Use component-managed authentication alias.
      • Enter BPMState for the Database name.
      • Enter the database Port Number.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Save to Master Configuration, and then click Save.
    5. Select the check box for the data source, and click Test Connection to verify connectivity.
