FileNet P8 Rendition Engine, Version 5.2            Operating systems:  Windows

Installing Rendition Engine interactively

You can use the installation wizard to install the Rendition Engine software interactively. After you install the Rendition Engine software, you must complete additional tasks such as setting temporary folder permissions, creating a Java™ repository, and setting the Purge and Archive intervals.

Attention: As part of the installation, you are prompted for the IBMFileNetRenditionEngineLicense.xml license file. Point the installation program to the current file that you copied onto to the IBM® FileNet® Rendition Engine server. If you point the installation program to an earlier license file, the following error is displayed during publishing:
Publishing failed, VISTA_JOB_FAILED: Status=failed, Description=Business service
'retrieve': Invalid requests: 'retrieve-remote'
If you see this error during publishing, use the Domain Manager to reinstall the correct license file.

To install Rendition Engine software interactively:

  1. Access the worksheet file, p8_worksheet.xls, that contains the parameter values to specify during the Rendition Engine installation. In the worksheet file, verify that the Data > Filter > AutoFilter command is enabled. To view only Rendition Engine values, filter by RE Installer in the Installation or Configuration Program column.
  2. Log on to the Rendition Engine server as the FNRE_Admin user. Unless otherwise directed use the FNRE_Admin user account to install and configure all of the Publishing components.
  3. Start the Print Spooler Windows service if it is not already running.
  4. Start the Rendition Engine installation program as an administrator:
    1. Access the Rendition Engine installation files from the local directory on the Rendition Engine server where they were copied.
    2. From this directory, right-click 5.2.0-P8RE-WIN.EXE, select Run as administrator, and complete the installation screens.

For highly available farmed server configurations, on the Database Information screen, verify that all nodes use the same database information. If you are using a highly available database, you must provide the virtual name of the database server.

  5. Use the default installation path that is displayed by the installer unless you have a compelling reason to use a different directory path. If you must change the installation path, click Browse to navigate to the installation location.

Installing Rendition Engine in a folder that contains Chinese characters in the path might convert some of these characters to question marks and return an invalid character error after you select the installation folder. You must install Rendition Engine in a folder whose path name does not contain Chinese characters.

  6. When the Rendition Engine installation is complete, check the installation log files to verify that no errors occurred. The log files are available at USER_INSTALL_DIR\re_install_log_<version>.txt and C:\Temp\LiquentServicesInstall.log
Attention: When you upgrade Rendition Engine from 5.0.0 to 5.2.0, ignore the ERROR CODE: 1801 The printer name is invalid message in the C:\Temp\LiquentServicesInstall.log file.

Use the Windows Task Manager or the application bar to verify that the IBM FileNet Rendition Engine 5.2.0 InstallAnywhere Wizard application completed.

Complete the additional Rendition Engine installation tasks.
