In addition to the wizards that specifically create documents,
folders, and custom objects, there is a generic wizard that administrators
can use to create an object of any instantiable class. You can use
this wizard to create objects of classes such as Link, Referential
Containment Relationship, and others, assuming that you know the required
and optional property values you want and how they are defined by
the class.
About this task
When the default setting for the property definition of a class is set to
True or False, you cannot change the default setting to <not set> while you are creating an
instance of that class. However, you can change the setting after you complete the wizard for
creating an instance of that class.
Tip: To successfully run the Create Instance
wizard, you must copy object references so that they are available
for pasting into the wizard property grid. For example, if you are
creating a document and want to assign a security policy, you must
copy the object reference of the security policy into the paste buffer. Then
when you run the Create Instance wizard, you can right-click and paste
this value into the Security Policy row of the property grid.
Procedure
To create an instance of a class:
- Start the Create Instance wizard in the administration
console:
- In the domain navigation pane, select the object store.
- In the object store navigation pane, click .
- Right-click the class you want to create an instance of.
- Click Create Instance.
- Complete the wizard.
Results
Tip: The created object is not displayed under
the class node. You can, however, create a search and view or modify
the created object from the Search Results folder.
