Deleting a file storage area or fixed storage area

You can delete a file storage area or a fixed storage area when it is no longer needed.

About this task

You can delete a storage area under the following conditions:
  • The storage area is not the default storage area for a class
  • The storage area is not assigned to the default storage policy for a class

The entry for a deleted storage area is automatically removed from the object store. The deleted storage area is no longer available. However, the directories and files for the storage area are not automatically deleted. These directories and files can be manually deleted.

Important: Deleting a storage area is an irreversible operation. Specifically, the deletion breaks the association between the content in the storage area and objects that own that content (such as documents and annotations). The content in the deleted storage area becomes irreversibly inaccessible. Consequently, before deleting the storage area, copy, back up, or move the content of the storage area. For information about how to restore a deleted file storage area or recover damaged files, see Partial recovery options.

Procedure

To delete a storage area

  1. In the administration console, select the Storage Areas folder in a specific object store or site that contains the storage area:
    1. In the object store navigation pane, click the AdministrativeStorage Areas folder.
    2. Click the storage area whose state you want to delete.
  2. From the Actions menu, click Delete File Storage Area or Delete Fixed Storage Area.
  3. Optional: In the server file system, delete the file storage area root folder.
