Create a map

To make a workflow definition more modular, you can define one or more submaps within a workflow definition.

In addition to creating new maps, you can also redefine maps inherited from a base workflow, and IBM® FileNet-provided submaps, Malfunction or Terminate, to provide custom processing.

Your IBM FileNet® license agreement determines the level of functionality that you see in Process Designer. As a consequence, some of the options described here might not be available for your system. See your system administrator for more information.

To use a new submap in the workflow, place a submap step on a map, then associate the new submap with that step.

In a workflow definition that is based on another workflow, the Workflow (Main Map) of the current workflow automatically overrides the main map inherited from the base workflow. To use the main map inherited from the base workflow, you can delete the Workflow (Main Map) in the current workflow definition.

To create a map:
  1. From maps section of the map, click the Create Map icon.
  2. In the Create Map dialog box, choose one of the following under Map Type:
    • Create a new map - Use this option to create a new map. Enter a name for the new map. The name must be unique in the current workflow definition.
    • Override Inherited Map - Use this option to override an inherited map. Select an existing read-only IBM FileNet-provided map or a map inherited from the base workflow. The steps on the existing map will be preserved for you to modify or delete.
  3. Enter a description of the map for author reference.
  4. On the new map, add steps and routes to define the process represented by this map.
