To enable users to view user-authored names, such as step
response, queue, and field names, in the language of their current
locale, you can use the administration console to export an XLIFF
1.1 file to be translated into a target language.
About this task
XLIFF is an XML-based file format that provides a standard
format for data to be localized into a target language. By using a
translation application that supports XLIFF 1.1, globalization engineers
can translate the items in each file for the specific language and
deploy the localized files on the client or server.
Important: To reduce the incidence of syntax errors in the translated
file, use an XLIFF translation application to translate the file instead
of a text editor.
An exported XLIFF file
contains the following globalization properties:
- Workflow names (work class name)
- Roster names
- Queue name
- Milestone names
- Step names
- Step instructions
- Step parameter names
- Step responses
- Field names (user-define data fields, system fields, attachments,
workflow groups, XML data fields)
Procedure
To create an XLIFF file for a target language in the
administration console:
- In the domain navigation pane, click an object store.
- In the object store navigation pane, right-click the folder and click Configure Workflow Settings.
- In the Workflow Systems window,
right-click an isolated region and click Connect.
- After the isolated region is connected, right-click the isolated region and click
New.
- In the New XLIFF Definition window, select a language from the
Target locale drop-down list.
- Click Browse and select a location
to save the file.
Important: Do not change
the file name. Content Platform Engine uses
this file name at run time to locate the appropriate language file.
- Click OK to create the file.
- To check the translated file for possible syntax errors,
right-click the isolated region and click Verify XLIFF
file and select the file to be verified. Any
syntax errors that are found must be corrected before the file can
be used. During the verification process, a warning is displayed for
the following conditions:
- Duplicated translated values (a=b, c=b)
- Null or empty authored names
- Null or empty translated values
- Translated values that are the same as a different authored name
(a=b, b=a)
