Assigning work items

You can assign a work item to a different step worker. The step worker can be a workflow participant or a work queue.

About this task

Here are some situations that might require work item assignment:
  • If a user is transferred to another department, you might want to reassign all work for that workflow participant to another participant.

  • You might want to expedite a workflow in a work queue by assigning it to a participant.

Important: Do not assign work items that are in the Conductor system queue. Work items usually go to the Conductor queue as a result of an error. To continue work item routing, resolve the error and complete the work item. For more information, see Completing work items.

Procedure

To assign work to a workflow participant:

  1. Retrieving work items. Retrieve one or more work items.
  2. On the Search Results tab, select one or more work items. To assign a work item, the item must currently be in a user inbox or work queue. The administration console ignores any selected work items that do not meet these requirements.
  3. Click Actions > Tasks > Assign Work.
  4. In the Work Items list, select the work items that you want to assign to a participant.
  5. In the New Participant section, click Add to add the new participants.
  6. Optional: Append or replace the current comments.
  7. Optional: If you want the work item to return to the current participant after the new user or group completes the step, select the Return work item check box.
  8. Click OK.
