IBM FileNet P8, Version 5.2.1

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager fixed content device

Before you can create a Content Platform Engine object to represent an IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager fixed content device, you must configure the device, and the device must be accessible to the Content Platform Engine network.

Before you begin

If you want the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server to enforce retention on object content, set the Archive Protection Flag property on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager fixed content device.

Procedure

To create a connection from IBM FileNet® P8 to the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager fixed content device.

  1. Create a file share that all the Content Platform Engine servers in your IBM FileNet P8 domain can write to. This file share is used to store IBM Tivoli Storage Manager configuration files and corresponds to the Configuration Files Share property on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager fixed content device.
  2. Create a client node and password on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server to connect toIBM FileNet P8. The client node and password correspond to the Node Name and Password properties on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager fixed content device.
  3. Update the MAXSESSIONS property on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server to ensure that it is large enough to handle the expected load from FileNet P8. The FCP Pool Max In Use property on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager fixed content device is defined once for each Content Platform Engine server instance. So the FCP Pool Max In Use value multiplied by the number of Content Platform Engine servers should not exceed the MAXSESSIONS property on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server.
  4. Configure the management classes and associated storage pools on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server for use by the FileNet P8 system. IBM Tivoli Storage Manager management classes are the mechanism used to enforce a retention policy on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server. When creating a fixed storage area associated to an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager fixed content device, you select the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager management class corresponding to the retention policy you want to use for documents stored in this storage area. If you are using FileNet P8 non-aligned retention, you must select an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager management class that does not enforce a retention policy on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server.
  5. If you are storing content on tape on the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server, create a disk storage pool with an appropriate migration policy to the tape device. Configure your IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client node to use this disk pool as a primary storage pool. Adjust the tape-related IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server properties as described in IBM Tivoli Storage Manager magnetic tape support.
