Creating a content cache area

Use the Create a Content Cache Area wizard to create a content cache area. A single content cache area can be shared among all servers in the domain, or each server can reference its own content cache area. In either case, a server can reference only one content cache area for its caching.

Before you begin

Before you create a content cache area, you must create a shared directory on a Windows or UNIX network server with the appropriate security settings. For more information, see Storage area security.
Restriction: Administration of a content cache area requires access to that area on the file system. You can create a new cache only through a server that has access to the root path.

Procedure

To create a content cache area:

  1. Ensure that you have access to the root path of the file system for the new content cache. Complete one of the following steps to provide access to a remote file system:
    • Temporarily mount the cache area so that the Content Platform Engine server that the administration console connects to can access the root path of the file system for the new content cache. For example, map a network drive in Windows or use the mount command in UNIX.
    • Connect to the administration console in the remote site that can access the root path of the file system for the new content cache.
  2. Start the Create a Content Cache Area wizard in the administration console:
    1. In the domain navigation pane, right-click Global Configuration > Administration > Content Cache Areas and click New Content Cache Area.
  3. Complete the wizard.
Important: When you are prompted to select the site for the content cache, select the site where the content cache root path is located.

What to do next

Assign the content cache to one or more sites. See Assigning a content cache area
