Prioritizing index areas for automatic activation

Set the activation priority for each index area to control the order of activation. Content Platform Engine activates the index area with the highest activation priority among those index areas with a STANDBY status. This index area is randomly selected if the highest priority is shared by more than one index area.

About this task

The resource status for the activated index area changes from STANDBY to OPEN, which allows the index area to receive index entries for newly indexed objects. An index area is activated whenever the resource status of another index area becomes FULL. The goal of this scheme is to maintain a constant number of index areas with an OPEN status. The newly OPEN index area and the newly FULL index area belong to the same object store.

Procedure

To set the activation priority for an index area with a STANDBY resource status:

  1. Access the properties of the index area in the administration console:
    1. Listing index areas.
    2. In the details pane, click the name of the index area.
    3. Click the General tab.
  2. In the Activation priority field, enter a value.
  3. Save your changes.
