IBM FileNet P8, Version 5.2.1

Locking work

Work items must be locked before you can modify them. You can request a lock at any time, or Process Administrator prompts you to do so when necessary.

When you lock a work item, it remains locked until you explicitly unlock it. When speaking of locking workflows, or work, you are actually requesting a lock on a workflow. Process Administrator must lock all of the work items that are associated with the workflow.

Important: Modifying a work item in the Delay and InstructionSheetInterpreter system queues can have unexpected consequences. Do so only if directed by yourFileNet® support representative. In addition, you must not edit fields in the Content Extended operations component queue.

To lock a workflow or work item:

  1. Set up a search with the criteria in the table.
Table 1. Criteria to lock a workflow or work item
    Criteria Value
Look for Workflows or Work Items
In Workflow Roster to access all or specify a queue.
    Search mode Edit
    Select multiple rows? Yes
  2. Select one or more rows in the results pane.
  3. Click Lock Selection on the toolbar.
Tip: Sometimes one or more of the affected work items can already be locked by the system or by another user. You cannot modify a work item that is locked by the system—you must wait until it becomes available. Process Administrator warns you when a work item is locked by another user; you can override the lock by choosing to continue.
