Content Platform Engine, Version 5.2.1

Creating the Process Engine upgrade properties file manually and starting the upgrade silently

If you are upgrading FileNet® P8 from version 5.1 or earlier, edit the peupgrade property file to set property values for the Process Engine upgrade. After you create the input property file, start the Process Engine upgrade from the command line.

About this task

In this task, you will edit the peupgrade property file to provide Process Engine upgrade parameters. You will then run the peupgrade tool, specifying the peupgrade.properties file as input, to upgrade the Process Engine.

Procedure

  1. Open your completed Installation and Upgrade Worksheet file.
Tip: In the worksheet file, verify that the Data > Filter > AutoFilter command is enabled. To view only peupgrade values, filter by peupgrade in the Installation or Configuration Program column.
  2. Log on to the Content Platform Engine server or a remote workstation as pe_upgrade_user.
  3. Copy the peupgrade.properties.sample file to peupgrade.properties and edit the peupgrade.properties file using the values from the worksheet. For each Process Engine version 5.0 virtual server, create a separate property file, for example, peupgrade_in_mmddyyyy_virtualservername.properties.
    1. Change the current directory to ce_install_path\tools\PE\samples where ce_install_path is the location of the program files.
    2. Using a text editor, edit the peupgrade.properties file by providing the parameter values for your configuration.
    3. Enter the parameters, one parameter per line in the following format:
      parameter name=value
    4. Optional: You can generate encrypted versions of DbExecute passwords by running the peupgrade command using only the following parameter:
      -E DbExecute_password
An encrypted password string will be returned. Copy the string and paste it into the peupgrade.properties file.
  4. Start the Process Engine as follows:
    Platform Command
    Windows cpe_install_directory\tools\PE\peupgrade.bat -s -I peupgrade.properties -O peupgrade_output_file -Y pe_upgrade_user + password
    AIX®, HPUX, HPUXi, Linux, Linux for System z, Solaris cpe_install_directory/tools/PE/peupgrade -s -I peupgrade.properties -O peupgrade_output_file -Y pe_upgrade_user + password
    -I
An input file with properties already set is required input to run peupgrade in silent mode. If there are multiple virtual servers, each requires a unique input property file, for example, peupgrade_in_mmddyyyy_virtualservername.properties
    -O
If not specified, messages are saved to a peupgrade_out_mmddyyyy.properties file, where mmddyyyy is the date file. If there are multiple virtual servers, each should have a unique output file to separate output messages for each virtual server. This will simplify later review and troubleshooting of each virtual server. For example, name the files peupgrade_out_mmddyyyy_virtualservername.properties
    -s
Including this parameter in the command line indicates that peupgrade should run in silent mode. If this parameter is used, an input file must be provided. Input values are read from the input file and no user interface is presented to the user.
    -v
(optional) Setting verbose mode indicates the level of detail for messages logged and displayed on the screen.
